I think this one is Venice, Italy.

 

I mistook that flag for the flag of Mexico at first, so was looking in entirely the wrong country for quite a while. Now I realize that's the Italian maritime flag. Those breakwaters match what I'm seeing at the entrance to Venice.

It would have been August or September 1997.

 

First Officer was a young Inger Olsen.

I haven't started working on identifying this port yet, but the other ship joining QM2 in this photo is the ex Seabourn Legend (now Star Legend since 2015).
