We were booked to stay at scandic palace a couple weeks ago pre cruise.  Looked like a good central location to walk to a lot of sights.

FWIW, the room next door is probably the best one in the hotel

It's a giant corner room, it usually gets booked early

 

 

The Bethel was undergoing an expansion. Not sure if it's done yet

Got it.  Before the restrictions on what you could carryon planes we used to buy alcohol in St. Thomas and carry it home. Not any more.

Had a beer at the airport prior to going thru security

 

Laura had a Rose'

 

The Premium lounge is very nice, perk of Business Class

 

Wine taps

Bottle of Red, Bottle of White, it all depends on your appetite

 

Laura is a big fan of the mustard they serve

And the ever popular Deta One sundae bar

 

Customs in JFK was awful, will try and avoid in the future

FWIW, I feel it's OK to leave via JFK, but hate to return thru there

I have done customs at jfk several times never recall having any issues.  Newark airport is a breeze.  Probably the worst customs we have experienced was london heathrow.

Very true.  I think it is the centurion lounge I prefer when at jfk.  Of course that all depends on terminal.  Yes New Yorkers are always in a hurry...

We flew business class on Delta to Sydney. We were not allowed in the premium lounge at the airport.

That's a good question, we've always had access when flying International. 

 

They do have to rely on the overseas lounges of their partners, though. Copenhagen uses the SAS lounge, and Barcelona uses a lounge run by the airport, I think.

Thanks for this thread John.  Nice to read a cruise report, even if it's a couple of years old.

 

@Bailey & Sophie - I've flown Delta Business Class to many cities around the world and always had access to a lounge.  As John said, they usually use a partner lounge and sometimes you need a separate paper pass (not your boarding pass) to get into the lounge.  The lounge pass should be offered to you when checking in without needing to ask but I've found that's not always the case and you may need to ask for it.  In some cases, the lounge isn't worth the effort.  I've not been to Sydney (yet) but it looks like they use the Virgin Australia Lounge.
