dogs4fun Posted December 20, 2020 #1576 Share Posted December 20, 2020 (edited) One of this venue's claim to fame is due to a specific work of the composer featured in the photo. Name what is in the photo. First guess the river. After that name the place in the picture. The person who first guesses correctly gets to post the next photo. Rare notamermaid Posted December 20, 2020 Author #1577 Share Posted December 20, 2020 I assume it is Mozart's The Magic Flute. But the place? notamermaid

CLUE ALERT: In fact, Mozart himself actually conducted this premier.
Daisi Posted December 20, 2020 #1579 Share Posted December 20, 2020 The Estates Theatre in Prague? Excursion from the Danube? If I'm right, call a wild card as I just did a picture. If no one take it up later, I'll do another one. Looks like a nice place.
dogs4fun Posted December 20, 2020 #1580 Share Posted December 20, 2020 You've got it, @Daisi. Mozart premiered Don Giovanni here where it is regularly performed to this day. We spent a week in Prague during the spring music festival. I was in hog heaven - a surfeit of heavenly music performed in stunning settings.

Rare notamermaid Posted December 20, 2020 Author #1582 Share Posted December 20, 2020 Thanks Daisi. In these bleak days before Christmas, my question into the round is: does anybody have a photo from a river cruise Christmas market they would like us to guess? Anything welcome of course, but a market photo with lights might cheer us all up even more. notamermaid

Probably not the most popular market on a river cruise. Edited December 21, 2020 by Coral
Rare jpalbny Posted December 21, 2020 #1585 Share Posted December 21, 2020 Gluhwein Inn and Weg im Licht. Definitely a German-speaking region. The steep hills along the river remind me of Salzburg, so that's my guess.

I will add that I don't think this Christmas Market is an excursion on most river cruise lines. Edited December 21, 2020 by Coral

dogs4fun Posted December 21, 2020 #1594 Share Posted December 21, 2020 (edited) The photo reminds me of our walk from the river dock in Linz on our way to the train station. I believe the photo was taken on Schmidtorstraße in Linz - about a half block from the Christmas market? I must admit I am mostly at home in the winter apart from short travels to England. I should have photos of Bonn or Cologne, but I cannot find any digital ones. notamermaid

They were even on light posts. I was thinking later I should have bought some but then I was thinking they were for electric outlets and not batteries but not entirely sure. I thought I could find them back home but couldn't. They had a great Christmas Market. I would love to return to this area in early fall, etc....Gorgeous area. I looked at the link and it appears to be battery operated. I must return sometime! Edited December 21, 2020 by Coral
