I did it, booked my first Celebrity Cruise.

After many cruises on NCL, I decided to jump ship and try Celebrity. I'd like to think it's because I'm eminently more sophisticated, worldly, cultured, and debonair than I was but nah! I'm the same old me and NCL prices are off the wall lately. So much so, my FCC's are patiently waiting a future price drop from NCL.

To the Edge I come! Well, hopefully and fingers crossed.

Stay safe everyone and wishing you many journeys in the months and year ahead.

Welcome Aboard.  The Edge class ships are liked by some and hated by others, there are plenty of CC discussions about the features of the S-class ships.  If you've booked a suite, I'm sure you will enjoy yourself.  For other classes it's a split decision.  If you haven't already read the CC discussions about the Edge, I'd suggest you read the discussions to be an educated consumer.  New isn't always better, sometimes it's just a shiny new object.  I'm not a fan of the Edge class ships, for me they are a step down from the S-class ships.  Hopefully you'll enjoy your Celebrity experience.

We are devoted fans of the S class ships but have decided to give the Apex a try next year. Can’t know my it until you’ve tried. I should also say that we have taken many NCL cruises (most before the Freestyle) and would choose Celebrity over NCL

The OP Philippe has already booked Celebrity and Edge and seems to be quite excited enough to post it here.

I hope the OP understands the features on the Edge and will be happy.    However if he doesn't, it's not to late to change.  Information is never bad.

Thank you everyone for sharing in my excitement!  I'm an eternal optimist. Helpful in life I've found. A week aboard any ship is better than doing my own cooking and cleaning. I'll take it LOL.

I have reservations about the lack of bar space. A pre and post dinner libation is a must for me.  But if it's truly terrible to snag a space, my liver will be thankful at least.

I too am going early April. The 4th to be exact. I will need to bring actual slacks.  So accustomed to the anything goes attitude of NCL.

We will see on you board!
ps-  we didn’t have a problem getting my pre-dinner  martini or  Bailey’s nightcap ( and of course wine with dinner & late afternoon margarita 😀).

Welcome to Celebrity. My sister and BIL, who have 15 Celebrity cruises under their belts are booked on their first Edge class ship, the Apex for next year. We had been HAL cruisers for the last 10 years and we are switching to Celebrity with 2 Infinity cruises next year to Spain and Greece. Looking forward to Aqua Class and the Blu restaurant. HAL got too stale for us and offered zero amenities compared to Celebrity.

Good on you solocruiser!  Got to try something to be able to make a true informed decision.  I for one love the Edge class of Celebrity, esp if you are an Sky class suite or above, ammenities are awesome, service is first class all the way. The layout of the ship, color schemes, Luminae, just can't say enough positive about it all.  APEX TA for me on May 1 (fingers crossed)  .  Enjoy your cruise!!

Good luck to you. We were supposed to do the exact same thing after many cruises with NCL. I was really looking forward to our Mediterranean cruise on the Apex. Hope you are successful with your sailing.

were you to be on the May 15 Apex med cruise?  I was as well and so disappointed it could not happen, but of course totally understood why.  May 2021....???

We were originally booked for the June 20 cruise.  I see she’s coming to Florida, but I really am not interested in the Caribbean again.

totally get it, that original intinerary would have been fantastic.  Apex though does have Greek Isles, Spain and Portual, 12 day cruise, May 15, 2021, from Barcelona.  I am on the TA preceeding it and decided to make it a B2B and stay on the ship for this cruise.

Well SolocruiserMA, you've done it now. Decided to go right to the Edge. No hesitating or teetertottering, no timidity or trepidation. Nothing in between, just a flat-out change of direction. You realize of course that once you step over the Edge, there is no going back. You will find yourself in a freefall of modern sophistication, unhindered by normality yet structured in its visceral intent.

Celebrity's Edge class ships are the first to go in a new direction, while staying a course familiar to it's seasoned cruisers. All of X's superb traits are present, just presented in a different manner and style. I have sailed on all X class ships and enjoyed them all immensely. I appreciate the differences and do not find fault or consequence with change.

You are a newbie, SolocruiserMA. I expect you to be exhilarated by Edge. I also expect that you will continue to enjoy the hospitality of the entire Celebrity fleet.

When next you cruise, only the best of times.

I see we share mealtime priorities. Hahahaha. Let's just hope it goes as intended. I can't wait after 2 cancelled this year.

Hi Philipe,

I just wanted to say hello and wish you a great journey.  I did the same thing as you a few weeks ago and booked a sailing with Celebrity for the first time on the Edge as a solo cruiser.  However, I wanted as little hiccoughs as possible, so I booked it far out to April 2022 on a sailing that @sandancer is also on.  Part of my decision is as a solo cruiser the staterooms are larger than most solo staterooms on other cruise ships.  Also, very few solo staterooms have access to sunlight like the infinite veranda solo staterooms.

The good news is that bar sales are what help keep the fleet afloat.  So even if the Martini bar is packed when you go, there will be other choices to get a beverage like Sunset bar, Eden, the casino bar.  I hope to do the same on my voyage.

You'll have to give me feedback about what you thought after your cruise.

Hi Douglas,

Oh ye of little faith. Actually,  a more sound decision. As a CPA,  I'm naturally more risk averse, turning over a new leaf perhaps. LOL

I hope your voyage is everything you thought it could be! I intend to compose a most likely substandard review of my voyage. I'm happy to share my thoughts and observations with you.

Stay well,

Philippe

Congratulations!  We've found a home on Celebrity after trying a few other lines (once each on Norwegian, HAL, Carnival, and MSC).  No "bad" cruises, just prefer Celebrities style and amenities. We've been on 3 cruises on the M- and S-class ships (no Edge class yet), and the staff has been outstanding on all of them.  Cancelled one for this November that did not look like it was going to sail, but still hopeful our August 2021 Baltic cruise will happen.

You will love Celebrity - welcome!

Dale

Another Celebrity newbie here.  We booked Celebrity Edge for a Mediterranean cruise from Rome to Greece and Turkey in Sept 2021.  Hopefully the third time will be the charm since we booked a similar cruise on Royal for Oct ‘20 and on Princess in Sept ‘21 that dropped the Greek ports.   I’m Diamond Plus on Royal so I’ll get a few perks.

I think you will be very pleased with Celebrity.  The service from the entire crew is just the BEST!  I especially like that they don't have the pool slides, go-karts, wave pools etc. thus greatly reducing the number of kids on-board.  I have booked a B2B, TA and Spain, Turkey & Greek Isles for May 2021...a man can dream can't he!!!   Enjoy your cruise.
