TheKingD Posted January 24, 2021 #28 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good morning, and thanks to Rich, Roy and all for the happy pictures, cartoons, and overall good cheer. I'm sending special prayers to @kazu and to Roy and their families in these scary times. I'm also sending special thanks to @65 Gatorand all other front-line and essential workers. I'm humbled to know of your efforts. We have our appointments for our first vaccinations, and we will wait patiently until our turn, which is about a month away. We are barely in the 65+ age group, and I hope, by the time we are in line, most of the 75+ and most of the health care workers will have had both their shots. Tomorrow is my birthday, and DH has planned a nice birthday dinner for us tonight - ribs, salad, tater tots, cake. And wine. Stay safe and kind.
mamaofami Posted January 24, 2021 #29 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Morning everyone. Beer cans: A special memory for me. When our son, now 47, was a freshman in college, we visited his suite. Of course, he and his roommates were under drinking age. Near the door to the suite was a huge carton filled with empty beer bottles. Not sure if cans were in use then since I don’t care for beer. Jacqui, so sorry to hear about Jose’s sister. She will be in my prayers along with Roy’s brother. Covid is rampant all around us and no vaccine to be had even though there are many sites . Gives me time to decide if I should take it. We we’re going to just go for a ride today, but there’s no place to go. Stay safe everyone and wear your masks. Sharon in AZ Posted January 24, 2021 #30 Share Posted January 24, 2021 (edited) Good morning everyone! Thank you for the Daily Rich! You deserve all the compliments for keeping this daily thread active and a fun place to be every day with our combos of days, meal suggestions, drinks, wine, quotes and where the beautiful HAL ships are. The meal suggestion sounds good and I looked up the recipe https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/feta-tomato-basil-fish/ All I need is the feta. Perfect timing because DH is picking up a few things that I forgot at the store. We will probably have it sometime this week because hamburgers are on the menu today. @ger_77 I made your pasta bake yesterday but used ground beef instead. It was wonderful and thank you for your recipe. It made enough for me to freeze 2 future meals for the two of us. @kazu So sorry about your SIL. I’m sure she is in the best of hands. I am praying for her speedy recovery and also for you, Jose and your family. We are having some much needed rain today and much cooler temperatures with our first hard freeze this week. 🥶 More rain expected too. Have a great day everyone! baltic17 Posted January 24, 2021 #31 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Thank you for the daily and great compliments to all who provide input, inspiration, comments and just enjoy the thread each day. I've already seen good belly laughs posted today! As for Beer Can Appreciation, just thought I'd share a small corner of DH's man cave. DH has already requested hamburgers for dinner so no fish or turkey. The dutch apple pie I made yesterday will be dessert again. Yummy! Prayers to all those who need them and good wishes to everyone. Oregon has gone back to rainy today and looks to be included in most days for the next couple of weeks.

Rare Vict0riann Posted January 24, 2021 #33 Share Posted January 24, 2021 (edited) Jacqui, @kazu, I'm so sorry about Jose's sister. We'll be praying for all your family. Rich and Roy, thanks for the Daily news and everyone for sharing. What a great group we are! The eagles are busy today. Dad brought in a lovely fish, and took a few minutes to persuade Mom to get out of the way so he could feed the babes. Now they are resting. https://www.dickpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.html Sleeping beauties: Edited January 24, 2021 by Vict0riann
Cruising-along Posted January 24, 2021 #34 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good morning all! @kazuprayers for Jose's sister. This is a horrid, horrid disease. @ger_77yikes, that is cold. We lived in Montana for a couple years and it got down to 30 below F several times but at least there it never seemed to last long, the temps would bounce around all winter. @65 Gatoragain, thank you from all of us for your hard work!! I'm just popping in quickly this morning, we will be leaving for the WA coast and some Vitamin Sea for a couple days to celebrate my birthday today. And best of all, on our way home Tuesday night we will get our first vaccines in Seattle. Best present of all. Stay safe, wear your masks. We will get through this!

Rare kazu Posted January 24, 2021 #36 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Jose got through to Mexico and we got good news and bad news. Apparently the relative was so upset when they messaged me that they mis communicated. She did message me in Spanish but it was somewhat garbled (I can read most Spanish 😉 ). Probably because she was so upset. Jose’s sister is fine. It’s his nephew who has covid. He is 48 so theoretically stands a better chance but he is in intensive care and require it oxygen. Hopefully he will be ok. He is getting very good care as his sister is training to be a physician (3 months to go) and working at the hospital assisting. Jose has sent her the name of a medication that has had successful study at the Montreal University of Cardiologists. 17

lazey1 Posted January 24, 2021 #39 Share Posted January 24, 2021 (edited) Good morning to all. Both the fish meal and the tukey meal sound wonderful as does the Pina Colada, a red wine, not so much. We are forecast to have rain showers/storms in So. Ariz and snow in No. Ariz for the rest of the week and boy do we ever need it. We had very hard rain for about half hour earlier this morning I haven't gotten outside to check my rain gauge for the amount. @Kazu I am so sorry to hear about Jose's nephew; it seems that in the past 6 months or so you have had enough pain and suffering in your family to last a lifetime. I admire your strong spirit and will keep your entire family in my prayers. Edited January 24, 2021 by lazey1
JazzyV Posted January 24, 2021 #40 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good afternoon, Dailyites. Thanks Rich and Roy for the Daily. I prefer beer bottles although I like the appearance of old cans. Compliments to the Daily and hoping for a belly laugh for all. I'll pass on the fish, but I do like pina coladas ( I may have some mix here; too hard to make from scratch). Dinner will be a chicken breast with broccoli and cheese inside. @rafinmd Prayers for your brother. @ger_77 Wow, that's cold! @kazu Prayers for Jose's nephew. @65 Gator Thanks for your work at the vaccination clinics. Sadly no vaccine available here for now, even though I qualify. @Vict0riann Awww. Our local eagle couple have been preparing their nest, but we don't expect eggs until next month. Prayers to all on the care list and cheers for the celebration list. Stay safe all, social distance and wear your mask (even if vaccinated!).

kplady Posted January 24, 2021 #43 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good afternoon from a chilly New York (definitely not as cold as the frozen tundra!) DH and I prefer beer in bottles, but on our cruises we try to taste local beers. I've attached a few pictures from the Caribbean cruises...enjoy!
Horizon chaser 1957 Posted January 24, 2021 #44 Share Posted January 24, 2021 (edited) Good morning, all! Beer cans are good for helping roast chicken. We all can use both a compliment and a good belly laugh, especially now. We finally have some snow, but it is very fine and forecast to turn to rain shortly.😔 DH talked me into making a gingerbread house yesterday. Actually, the baking was the day before, and assembly was yesterday. It’s the first one I’ve done totally on my own gluten free recipe and template, so I’m fairly pleased with it. A year ago today, the Amsterdam’s Grand World Voyage took us to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We took the shuttle into town, as there isn’t anything near the cruise terminal, and took the Hop on Hop off bus. We wanted to add a longer loop, but weren’t sure we would make it back in time. As a small comfort though, Buenos Aries was a segment start port, so we did a little shopping in a local store and brought two nice bottles of Argentinian red back aboard for the cabin without being charged a corkage fee! The view from the ship, and why we needed a shuttle to town. Passing beautiful old buildings, and shiny new buildings, that are kept clean and sparkling. The pedestrian street of Florida Ave. An orange juice vendor on Florida Ave, the ones that squeeze the juice for your cup while you stand there. Delicious! And fancy churros to go with it, if you want. A wonderful day ends too soon, and we watch Buenos Aires slip away into the sunset. And of course, the Amsterdam wishes you Happy Sunday! You definitely deserve a shout out on Compliment Day. I know that it must take a lot of time to keep it up to date and we all appreciate your dedication. Also,I am continuing to pray for your brother. @cat shepard Thank you for keeping the wine of the day report! @summer slope Thank you for keeping the drink of the day recipe! Quartzsite Cruiser Posted January 24, 2021 #46 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good morning from a cloudy and rainy Arizona. The rain passed through here last night along with lightning and thunder, and we got 0.15 inches. That is a good rain for this area, and we are expecting more. Several years ago, DH got me a rain gauge that measures in 100th of an inch. It would not work where we line in Texas as we can get several inches in one rain storm. We usually get beer in cans as they fit in the refrigerator better. @kazuGlad Jose's sister is all right, but sorry his nephew is suffering from that blasted virus. @Cruising-along Happy Birthday. Have a wonderful time getting that vitamin sea. @ger_77 Yikes, that is cold, especially to thin bloodied Texans! @Horizon chaser 1957 That gingerbread house is lovely. So far, I just do the cookies. Buenos Aires is a lovely city. Saguaros are indigenous to southern Arizona from just east of Tucson to about the Californios border. They are protected by the state, and if you want one in your yard, it has to come from a nursery and be legally obtained. A few years ago, I was cleaning debris from under our ironwood tree, when I realized one clump of leaves was actually a baby saguaro that wasn't there when we bought the lot 20 years ago. The only thing I can think of is the seed was deposited there by a bird. These cacti are supposed to be slow growing, but this one didn't read the book. Originally, I was going to transplant it when it got a little bigger, but if you follow the rules, even to move it in your yard you need a permit. So the plan now is the keep the center of the tree limb free as the saguaro grows. Here are a couple of pictures of our "slow growing" saguaro. 🌵 This one was taken in 2016 about two years after I found it. It was about four inches tall. This one was taken last October and it was 16 inches then. Lenda 27

bennybear Posted January 24, 2021 #50 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Good morning and thanks all! @kazu yikes, hope Jose’s nephew improves quickly. Saw the report on that medication on the news. @ger_77 that’s too cold, we’re minus 15 and that’s my limit! @cat shepard our houses are built for that cold in Canada, but you know it’s too cold when your canned goods in a cupboard start to feel like they’re in a fridge. But really it’s no different than extreme heat, you go out of your heated house , into your prewarmed car. It’s only when the steering wheel snaps off...... 18
