What and where was your last cruise?

Recommended Posts

My last cruise was in December 2019 on the newly amped Oasis of the Seas. It was my first time going to Labadee. It was also our first cruise with connecting cabins which was awesome. I feel lucky that we were able to get a cruise in right before COVID.

Jan-Feb 2020:   HAL Zaandam Santiago to Buenos Aires with 5 days cruising Antarctica.  Three days in Santiago and a couple of days in BA at the end.  Also an amazing 3 days on our own to Iguazu Falls.  First I heard of Covid was at airport in BA coming home when they asked us if we had been in China during the previous 14 days.  I remember sitting in the Business Class Lounges in BA, Miami, and Charlotte with people from all over the world constantly coming in and out to get drinks and self serve food items.  Now the thought of that is a bit frightening.

Grand Princess San Francisco to Hawaii - YEP!  That ship!

February 21 -  March 7, 2020. Oops!  We ended up quarantined on the ship until March 12 and then flown overnight (Escorted by Medical people in full hazmat suits) to be quarantined again at Dobbins Air Force base outside of Atlanta, Georgia.  It ended up being a 5 week vacation. (But my husband calls it an incarceration.).  What an experience.

But now vaccinated and looking forward to cruising again.  Just want to do it safely.

A little off topic, but how do you get an $18 drink package on Mariner?

There was a pricing error on the UBP where they were selling them for $18 per day for several hours for cruises in 2020.    I had purchased 5 or 6 of them for various 2020 cruises that never took place.  I got to use it that one time

May 2019 RC Freedom, Southern Caribbean itinerary from San Juan. Loved it despite the travelling involved from the UK to Puerto Rico 😎.

I can’t believe it will be over 2 years by the time we set foot on a ship again, just booked an MSC cruise around the British Isles for July this year. Can’t wait!

Feb 2  Feb 9, 2020 on Allure...Eastern Caribbean.  The boarding process was a bit more interesting with even more (and different) wellness questions.  At the time, we knew something was happening in China, but couldn't imagine how our lives would soon change.  As for the sailing, it was our first vacation for a couple years so we enjoyed our first Crown Loft and didn't even concern ourselves with Allure's propulsion issues or a missed port (St Kitts).  No sooner did we return and the world shut down.

Feb.7-15 2020. This was to celebrate our 50th anniversary. We went Star Class on Anthem as a special way to celebrate.   However, after arriving at the terminal with another couple sailing with us we were sent home. My "Genie" called me to let me know that several Chinese passengers had been taken for "testing" for a contagious viris. She kept in touch to let us know if and when we could board. After 48 hours she said we could come to board. We were suppose to go to Nassau and Coco Day (where we had booked an over water cabana). Due to the 2 day delay the captain changed the itinerary. We were sailing to BERMUDA. What started out as a disappointment turned into the most wonderful cruise I have ever taken. You see, Bermuda was our honeymoon island. We spent 2 full days in 70 degree perfect weather. To compensate, Royal Caribbean gave us our money back - half directly back to our credit card and half future cruise credit. Little did we (or they) know what the future would bring. Many people were not as lucky as we were. Those who flew into New Jersey were given some payment for a hotel while waiting. Some just went home. I watched the HBO show, The Last Cruise. This was actually happening while we were in Bermuda. This cruise to celebrate our 50th anniversary will forever be in our memory. Oh yes, the FCC was applied to a January 2022 Star Class cruise to help us get over 2020-2021. Hope it sails! Stay healthy.

We were on this one, too....also our last cruise.  We did stay in a hotel for 2 nights but got on board as soon as we could.  We also had a great time on this cruise.  Because the cruise was only at about 60% capacity (if memory serves) it was not crowded at all and we really didn't even miss the 2 days that were cut out.  I am not a huge fan of Bermuda but I was just grateful that we got to go at all !

Who was your Genie ?  We had done B2B SC in Feb 2019 and Yen Lee was our Genie.  When we saw her on this Feb 2020 cruise she was so nice to us.  She sat us in reserved seats for Spectra's Cabaret.  We would NEVER have asked her to do that...we just happened to see her when we were coming into 270 and she offered...so we took her up.  She told us to give her a call if there was anything we needed for the remainder of the cruise but of course, we did not.  I love SC on the Quantum class.  My next one (on Q class) will be on Quantum for the HNL-YVR TP in April 2022 (I hope).

I’m glad you can still keep a good attitude about cruising after that experience.  I watched the whole thing unfold on the news, thinking to myself how glad I was that we hadn’t decided on a spring break cruise last year for a change.  Hopefully we will all be able to cruise again soon!

March 8th - 17th on Liberty of the Seas out of San Juan. It was Liberty's first (and only) cruise after her Amplification. The cruise was supposed to end in San Juan on the 15th but Puerto Rico had closed the port to cruise ships. We got an extra 2 nights on the ship and ended our cruise in Miami.

I just caught my own mistake here and it was too late to edit it. The ship we were on was Freedom, not Liberty. My next booked cruise is on Liberty so I probably had Liberty on the brain 😁. I don't think Liberty has been Amplified yet.

Out Genie was Romina. It was our first Star Class. I remember when we set sail. The captain came so close to the Statue of Liberty I felt like you could reach out and touch it. Yes, the ship sailed well under capacity. My friends and I felt like we had the whole suite level on the deck to ourselves. Genies are amazing!! Thanks for the response.

12 night Baltic Cruise on Brilliance August 2019.  It was our first 12 night cruise and we LOVED it.  We had a March 28th 2020 western Caribbean booked but of course got cancelled.  Nothing booked yet 😞.

We really liked cruising the Baltic.  Makes us look forward to more Northern Europe cruises.
