New 2021 sailings?

Why do people still expect Canada to resolve an American problem? If the American government wanted to allow foreign flagged cruise ships to sail from American ports without a stop at a foreign port - then surely they could do so with the stroke of a pen.

We are not waiting for Canada, cruises resuming from US is getting ready to happen, and soon.  Canada's very minor $ impact, on overall cruise industry, has to do with Alaska.  Though Canada is understandably doing what they feel is best for its citizens.  US is more than capable of both solving and causing our own problems.  I will say, much of the world has bashed the CDC, though I kind of understand that, as vast majority of cruises sail from the US and our cruise ports re-opening may hinge on your next cruise.

I wonder if the cruise lines would just pay the $798 pp fine for violating the PVSA.  They would of course add it to the fare.  

 

Now the Border Protection actually enforcing this is an interesting thought as there is a crisis down south.

So what do we know about Celebrity sailings in July?  Is the Edge the only new ship that is going?

 

It seems like most lines have 3 or so ships starting out?

What can’t the President do? Well, declare war, for one thing.  But sticking to the subject of cruising to Alaska without stopping in Canada, some sort of exception to the rules about work visas would be problematic, because there’s the domino effect....

Hawaii cruises from the West Coast, too

Agree they are, but again the number of those cruises from Boston are a BLIP on the cruise radar.

Also there are cruises on the Great Lakes which aren’t allowed to go without a stop in Canada

Our Canada N/E cruise for Oct 2021 out of Cape Liberty was cancelled (put on hold) by RCI long ago. First because it was 9 nights then because of Canada.

If July happens it seems like Edge is a given to start, Equinox would follow especially once mid August hits and the 9/12 night cruises need shifted. Then Summit is scheduled for Bermuda then Iceland before heading back to the Caribbean. I could see the Iceland cruises getting scrapped and leaving that ship at a US port as well. Eventually you would have your 3 by September or so.

Reflection for July 11th,18th & 30th still hasn't canceled .... but many have bailed out.

The only announced restart was for Galapagos cruises. It was indicated that Celebrity hopes to have an announcement about Edge soon, and it’s anticipated Edge will be the first Celebrity ship to sail out of a US port. Regarding Alaska, the statement was something like still holding out hope for technical stops; last week seemed like 40% chance of this, now maybe a 60% chance. Unfortunately, there were no other new indications of sailings for other ships.

The August Summit sailings can just sail past Halifax without a problem since they already stop at other foreign ports.  Those August Summit sailings have other problems, such as: Will the UK allow the Summit to sail with non-UK passengers?

Because an executive order to waive PVSA requirements can only be done when in the interest of national defense.  Otherwise legislative action is required.

People should not be expecting Canada to solve our issue with Alaska cruises.  The PVSA is what is inhibiting those sailings (beyond the CSO). Executive order cannot be done.  Legislation to address a temporary waiver was offered but is going nowhere.

Just stating the facts.  Executive orders, legal or not, have a much longer history than what you contend.

Another issue is the current 7 night rule for ships leaving or arriving at US ports.

There are more who have canceled than those who remain boarded, For the departures of July 11 and 18 the ship only has 20% occupancy, the rest 80% is empty !!!!

Any comments made about FL law which prohibits cruise lines requiring vaccine proof? Booked on the Edge out of FLL in OCT but will CNX if CEL does not require most to be vaccinated.
