Nope, that’s the style for the young ones!!!

Men wearing dress slacks and slip ons without socks is NOT only for the young ones. I'm 59 and have been doing it for years. It's a style choice.

I don't know about the cruise lines' tux rental stores I used to see on board going out of business because of COVID.  But, I do know I haven't seen one of those on board any cruse ship, regardless of cruisline, in well over a decade.

I don't even think I've seen a tux on a cruise in probably 3-4 years, maybe longer.

Just like wearing a shirt out or no tuck shirt. I do wear dress slacks without socks, too. The world is changing. No longer binary.

I don't get it either but at least his ain't saggin!

We can always do as our national treasure, Dolly Parton does, if it’s “bagging, dragging or sagging, get it nipped, tucked or sucked”.  I recently got Botox for the bags/suitcases under my eyes…oh my lord I love it!!

Does celebrity still have this service where a Tux will be in our cabin before we take off? Or is this only in Florida?

Celebrity used cruiselineformal.com and as of at least my last  cruise (January 2020) they had gone out of business.

Are you sure he is not wearing socks?  One of my younger coworker seems like he never wore socks.  So one day I asked him about it (mentioning something about Don Johnson is back?) and he said he absolutely wore socks everyday.  He took off his shoes and showed me.  They are called no show socks for men.

I just assumed! No socks that I could see at least! We were just excited to be on the cruise with them!

I know that the Formal nights seem to be coming to the end, But I must be showing my age...I love taking the trophy wife to the Prom still....LOL I guess I will have to go out and buy one from a formal shop. I wonder why the young don't like to dress like James Bond anymore.

How lovely you look!  DH also likes to take his tux and we dress up!  Such fun and makes it so special!  He especially likes to hit the casino in his "James Bond" outfit!

OMG, I thought I was the only old guy that do not wear socks. Wife hates it but I very rarely wear them. I have always been a bare foot guy. When I retired,,,now I hardly wear them.

This is the time of year to buy a tux. June weddings cause a glut of tuxedos at rental shops. My DH bought a traditional tux for $99 (cheaper than a rental) at Men’s Wearhouse the first week of July. It turned out to be new, never rented & didn’t need any alterations (which would’ve been included in the cost). FYI, great picture!

Thank you for the great information!

We rented a tux on our Med cruise in 2017 for our 30th wedding anniversary and it was lovely!  We got to do a "masked" ball as we sailed out of Venice and it was fabulous to see and be seen amidst all the glitz and glamour.  I get that with the luggage weight restrictions and such that formal wear is bulky and can be heavy, but I will be sad to see this tradition completely disappear.

I do hear that Cunard at least is still keeping with tradition and hubby does look wonderful in a tux!

One thing I really liked was I did not have to pack it. It was in the room waiting for me and I did not have to pack it when i left the cabin. (Priceless)

For sure, the convenience of not having to pack and drag a tux on the trip was one of the most attractive features. All I needed to bring was socks and dress shoes to complete the outfit. And since I have to use for a tuxedo in my non-cruise life, purchasing one never appealed to me, even though the money I've spent renting them over the years would have easily paid for a nice one.

The article literally says that with formal attire you should continue to wear socks. So going sockless with a tuxedo is a fashion don’t. It also looks pretty silly IMO if the bare foot can be seen. Some of those other more casual styles the article shows look great without socks and I do it myself with certain outfits, but never when dressing formal.

We complain when people don’t dress up enough and now complaining that their way of dressing up isn’t appropriate. Give it a rest and let the “kids” enjoy themselves snd dress up how they like. My post and picture was not posted to start a sock or sockless debate, I was just showing that the younger generation enjoys dressing in a tux along with us older folks. Please give it a rest.

This is a message board where people share a variety of opinions. If you do not like that then perhaps you should post on your own personal page. I was not replying to your comment so please direct your aggressiveness elsewhere. It is unwarranted and unappreciated.

You were indirectly replying to her post with a pic of her with her son and son-in-law.  She was obviously very happy with that pic, rightly so, looked pretty dapper to me.  “Aggressiveness”??  Come on…

People don't accept opinions or remarks unless they agree with them. This forum is to post opinions just like any other forum. No one opinion is right or wrong. That is the problem we have today. Even when someone addresses a vaccination we get into big discussions.

Why can those who disagree just accept the other opinion. Move on. There are many things I may disagree with and never say anything about it.

I started the question about the socks. I am not a kid, however, I was thought a different dress code. Should I have not asked the question? Sorry I did. If I knew it would bring about such anger, I would not have.

As for letting kids be kids. That could start another big discussion.

The Edge is going out of Port Everglades today at 6pm EST. Lets enjoy that!

Stay Safe and Happy Cruising!

Celebrity's view of what constitutes modern luxury has changed in recent years.  If towel animals are no longer part of it, I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised that going to dinner in someone else's pants isn't either

I once rented a tux for a cruise. Rather than using the cruise line rental service, I rented from Men's Wearhouse. Got sized and booked the rental locally, and picked up at a location near my pre-cruise hotel on the other side of the country. Returned once off the ship. Cost wise, I think it was cheaper, plus better selection.

The last time I hired one was in 2012 on Solstice from Cruiseline Formal Wear. The suit was in dreadful condition, front edges of jacker frayed and in a hole in one place, a replacement jacket wasn't much better, shiny and worn. Ended it for me.

Speaking of socks, my son bought these for me a little while ago.  Wore them on my last cruises (right before COVID shutdown) for dress up nights.  They were a hit……
