Back from rehab.  All the other sessions Monday are full, so I will go at 9:45 and leave early.  I called the Endodontist and verified he has the information he needs from my regular dentist.

Good morning from central Texas where it can't make up it's mind if it's going to be sunny or cloudy along with windy.  As the days get warmer, the wind helps keep it comfortable, especially since our highs will be in the 90sF most of the next ten days.

An interesting collection of days.  While I appreciate cows, and even sat on the back of my grandfathers cow, Bossie, after watching Dr. Pol, I'll appreciate them from a distance..  I guess there is an inner dork, but I hope it stays hidden.  I am not a fan of tapioca pudding.

I've had a John Collins and a vodka colins since I do not drink gin.  The meal sounds good, especially the second recipe.  We'll pass on it today since we had Pad Thai last night.

The quote is interesting..

@smitty34877  That was nice of you to give your mail carrier water and a cool towel.

@kazu  I loved all the memes, especially the one for the Garden Club.

To all who suggested mystery series by English authors, thank you.  I'm always looking for new books and authors.  The Robert Galbraih books are good.

Since we usually do b2b2b2b... cruises, we've been to Sitka 12 times on the 14 day Alaska cruise.  It is one of my favorite Alaskan ports and one of the prettiest.  We've been to the Fortress of the Bears twice and the Raptor Center at least three times.  I'll try not to repeat any pictures, and my pictures are from all our cruises.  I found in looking at the pictures, on each visit after the first two or three times, I took fewer and fewer pictures.

There is a statue of Alexander Baranof near the Ceremonial Hall.  On one of our 2010 visits the statue was on a pedestal, but by 2015 it had been lowered and moved.

Meet Volta, the mascot of the Raptor Center.  It;s his picture on the t-shirts and on the wall behind him.

On our first visit in 2010, we took a wildlife small boat tour, and these are from the boat.

In later visits, as we explored further from downtown, we saw the National Cemetery.

On an early visit we toured the Bishop's House, which is now run by the Natonal Park Service.  They left two rooms partialy restored so visitors could see some of the construction details.

We were told it is considered good luck when the eagles perch on the cross on top of the Cathedral.  We've seen a bird there twice and once saw an adult and a juevenile eagle at the same time.

On our third visit to Sitka in 2015, the Statendam docked at the new cruise dock instead of tendering.  It is a nice dock and building, even if it is out of town.  The drive to and from the new dock gives a good picture of the rest of the island.  This was Statendam's last call to Sitka.  When she got back to Seattle, she then headed to Singapore for a drydock before joining P&O Australia.

@puppycanducruiseHave you read Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling)? SharonBolton? I like the Midsummer Murders series and I just started the books. The characters are far more detailed as are the story lines. The author is Caroline Graham.

We did not go in that cathedral.  I know for sure because there are no interior photos in my collection.  I'm not sure why, because it would have been nice to see it.  Next time!!

I love reading  Midsummer Murder series too.  We got BritBox so we could watch them all.

I've also read the Martha Grimes detective.  Light summer reading.

I don't think I have read Sharon Bolton, thanks for the tip.

Good morning to all my Daily Family on the Ides of July.  Tapioca pudding brings back memories of my 6 years in boarding school, where we  called it "glue pudding" and the game was for everyone to hold their dishes upside down to see whose pudding would drop first - I don't think it ever did!

In Manila there was a dessert called "goolah malacca" which my mother always made for after a curry meal.  It was a clear tapioca kind of pudding made with water (the goolah) and a kind of brown sugar topping (the malacca) and coconut cream on top of that.  It was sooo delicious and refreshing after curry (my father liked curry so hot you had to wear a towel around your neck).

We have been to Sitka a few times, my pictures are like the others.  I would like to go back - the two-week Alaska cruises are the best!  And they stop here to let us disembark...  Talking about Alaska cruises, the Federal Transport Minister is going to make an announcement here at Ogden Point today - the feeling is that he is going to announce that Canada will open the ports for cruise ships next year.

We are due for wonderful weather for the next week or so, around 25 during the day and 15 at night.  Just perfect for sleeping.  But, no rain in the forecast, unfortunately; we really need some.

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Interesting days. I do appreciate cows. I don't think I've ever had tapioca; mainly rice pudding.

Good quote.

I like the meal and wine.

I have been to Sitka on the Ryndam in 2009.

It's sunny here today, with possible rain the next 4-5 days. The tile is being grouted today; it looks nice. The last part will be getting the kitchen painted. I normally do all my painting, but lately have some balance issues so I prefer not getting on a ladder.

Ugh, my right eye is inflamed today. I'm putting in hourly drops. If I can't clear it in 24 hours I have to call the eye doctor and my surgery might have to be postponed. I sure hope not!

Prayers for the care list and cheers to the celebration list.

Stay safe everyone.

Approaching Sitka. The Amsterdam was also there.

Good Morning.

A quick update on the forest fire that has been impacting my cousin.  My cousin is still under an evacuation alert.  The good news is that the fire has decreased in size from approx 250 hectares to 181 hectares as of yesterday.

We were in Sitka in 2012 on the Amsterdam.  Lovely little town.  I will try not to repeat photos, but no promises.

Morning all. Yesterday the promised us rain.... and it was dry and sunny all day. Hopefully we will get some later this weekend. Our local weather guru says to forecast the weather just "look out the window".

I have been to Sitka twice and loved it. Did the whale watching and otter seeking and we did see a couple of bears by the road. And I just like walking about town and looking at the Russian church. Lots to see there. I also have a school friend living there and we meet for coffee or tea.

On the home front, I spent most of yesterday afternoon at the shelter dealing with the roofing and HVAC remodel issues and things just get more complicated and, of course, more expensive. Then came home to the news that the buildings on either side of us are needing new roofs. I need to send my roofer up to look at ours.... and hope it is good for at least another year. At least I have a couple of people I can consult when getting information on various projects.

Pulled out a T-shirt to wear this morning .... Pitcairn Island. I need to get away.

Susan

We were on the Marina (🚢 Oceania) and the islanders from Pitcairn came onboard setting up tables of their handicrafts. 😉I bought a T-shirt, too. That cruise missed Easter Island, unfortunately. 🙃

Speaking of heat, we're in another heat wave here on the "frozen tundra" - the forecast is for at least the next 7 days in the high 30's with little to no chance of rain.  Already the farmers are worried about their crops, as there has been so little precipitation since the growing season began.  Today we're looking at 36C (96F), so we'll be doing what needs to get done early this morning and then hunkering down in the a/c for the remainder of the day.

😱 I wish we could send you some of our rain. A number of streets were flooded last night and the fire crews were out to pump the water.

I feel for your poor farmers 😔. Try to stay cool and safe.

We've been to Sitka numerous times - I think it may be my favorite port. Love the sea otters on the nature cruise!

In 2014 we had a unique experience there-- a policeman who was retired on disability (paralyzed & in a wheelchair) was raising funds for a program to train troubled youth as dog sled mushers. He was set up in the convention center, and for a free will donation you could get your picture taken in costume with a sled and three REAL huskies. That was our Christmas card that year!

@Quartzsite Cruiserthanks to you too for your photos.  Not just the cathedral interior, but so many unique sights you've seen there.  I really enjoyed them.

@NextOnethat's a very cool photo op.  I can imagine you got a lot of comments on your Christmas card that year!

@JazzyVI hope your eye problem clears up today so you can have your surgery as scheduled on the 20th.  Good luck!

Good morning to all!  It's such a pretty morning here.  I hope all of you enjoy your day and avoid ferocious thunderstorms like @kazuhad last night.

Thank you @richwmnfor today's Daily.  Also, thanks to @rafinmdfor publishing our list today so that we may pray for those in peril and cheer our celebrants.  @bennybeardo you have an update on how your DD and DSIL are doing?

Interesting set of days today.  My favorite is Cow Appreciation Day (otherwise known as Chick-Fil-A Cow Appreciation Day).  A day when those who dress up as cows get free food at Chick-Fil-A.  I read they are not observing it again this year due to Covid.  Has anyone noticed if their local Chick-Fil-A has their dining room open yet?  I thought ours did but perhaps I'm wrong.  Tapioca is something my mother used to make when I was young but I must not have enjoyed it because I have never made it in my life!  Dork Day, well perhaps I was a dork as a teen.  I always made sure I did my homework and was prepared for tests, and never skipped school or partied like some teens did. So perhaps that qualifies as being a dork.

One of our last cruises was on Amsterdam on the 14 day Alaska cruise in September 2019.  We celebrated our actual 50th wedding anniversary date that day in Sitka.  We had a nice visit there and I would be happy to show some photos later.  I'm being called away right now.

Later!

DD got the antivirals so once they kicked in they’ve really helped.
My poor DSIL may need another surgery,  she is going to the hospital for  daily IV antibiotics.   She really needs extra prayers.
