G'Day everyone! Thanks for the daily and the lists. They bring bsck a lot of memories of fun in the sand and also some fun things with  meals.

When in college, a few freinds decided to invite a much-loved elder professor (well into his eighties at the time) to go into town to have something to eat. As we were seated, we orderd from the diner type menu which included "sloppy Joe's". Our very traditional elderly companion looked up at the waitress and said: "I will have an "Untidy Joseph". We all spend the rest of the eveing laughing and having a wonderful time.

On the other end of the dinner suggestion, Mac and Cheese is interesting. It has been around for a long time. I think it was mostly originated as a qucik, low cost meal for kids. Over the years it has become more and more sophisitated with the use of varying cheeses and other ingredients. It really does lend itself to innovation. The last Mac and Cheese I had was a Lobster Mac and Cheese that had lots of big hunks of lobster and a great blend of cheeses. - delicious!

We visited Kauai on the Zaandam. We rented a car and drove around the island. It was beautiful.

Stay safe everyone

The Brooklyn cocktail looks really good - need to give that a try.

Greetings from Sitka Alaska! Watching docking from Pinnacle Grill.

We had some rocking last night with 13’ seas.

Cruise is going great. I believe this is the A team.

Now back to Mimosa and French Press Coffee.

Life is good.

I am so jealous. Navigator says I still have 37 days until I sail.
Thanks Rich and all the Dailyites who make this place special.
Today I go into town and sign papers on a house. My renters will be buying the house from me. One less thing to worry about.
I really want to see more ships on Rich’s report under the “with passengers”.

👍Thank You for The Daily, Rich @richwmn and to Roy @rafinmd for both the Care and Celebration Lists. 😊

We've been over to Kauai many times ( hop, skip and a jump for Californians) and last time stayed at the Koloa Landing Resort.🌺

One time, we needed more "credits" to go from a three star Mariner to a four Mariner and joined a Circle HI on the Zaandam in late April, 2016. It's ALWAYS about the free laundry,  lol.🙃

🙏Prayers to all in need and blessed with son and daughter.

Katie ......stay safe and wear a 😷!

A brief hello and good morning to all, thank you for the Daily and a bit of relief from the day-to-day. Loving the pictures, love Hawaii (last visit was land-based to Kauai in 2014), DH would like to try the drink of the day! Not a fan of Sloppy Joes (Untidy Joseph!!! Hahahahhahahaa!), but might try it with mac and cheese. The picture looked great! Sending good wishes to the care list and hope improvements continue with all concerned.

I've been having a rough morning, LOL! Farty hasn't been cooperating today. Yes, I'm one of those crazy ladies who took up sourdough baking during the pandemic. Farty (short for Farticus) has been residing in my fridge and on my counter for over a year now, and while we have a love/hate relationship, I dutifully pull him out every week and make a loaf of bread, with varying degrees of success. Hoping he survives during our upcoming, hoped-for NA cruise. Wait, what am I saying? Oh, the days when we just bought our bread from the store. Still, the kneading does take out some aggression! 😁

Back to cleaning the kitchen, wishing a good day to everyone!

That's awesome that you do bake the bread.  That is a skill I'd like to have.  DH is better than me with yeast products.

I had two different people offer to send me starter here during the pandemic -- a friend in Seattle and a cousin in Finland.  Great pandemic hobby!

Good afternoon Everyone!  I have some positive news to report.  Our fully vaccinated son-in-law traveled to New York for a wedding.  He flew from California, spent several days in Manhattan working and dining and visiting with friends, attended the wedding in Westchester County, and flew home.  He quarantined for four days upon return and is now home -- after having two different COVID tests and testing negative.

This made me feel better about our upcoming Alaska cruise.  I hope it does for some of you, too!  😊

Good morning everyone and Happy Wednesday!  Thank you for the Daily Rich and thank you for your lists Roy. @rafinmd I forgot to ask you yesterday about your meal— it seemed like it was missing the entree. I miss your pictures too but I know you don’t have pictures of all of them.

I have a son and a daughter so will celebrate them today. I never could do calligraphy.  I would love to have my feet in the sand right now on Half Moon Cay.

I’ll pass on the meal suggestion. My pork carnitas was extra good last night, not sure why it was the best ever, maybe it was the two jalapeños I added.  I couldn’t stop taking a taste. I think we will have that again tonight. For the bowls I put rice in the bottom and top with the pork, salsa, corn, pinto beans, avocado and cheese. I like to mix mine up but Craig doesn’t.

We have been to Hawaii but not to Kuaui.  I’m loving all the pictures.

Have a great day everyone!

I actually bookmarked your carnitas, recipe, Sharon.  It's DH's favorite meal.  I've been using a recipe from Emeril, which is good, but yours sounds even better.  I keep trying to make it just like the carnitas at our Old Town Mexico Cafe here in San Diego, and I haven't quite nailed it yet.

Last night I didn’t fry the pork, just used it straight out of the crockpot and I think I prefer it that way.  And I added some of the juice to the beans.

I forgot you were in San Diego. Craig and I went to the Nazarene College on Point Loma and after we were married lived in an apartment on Wing street near the Scripps Hospital. Not sure if it’s still there though, that was in 1974/1975. 😉

I know we are on the same October cruise but which sailing are you on to Alaska?

Good morning all and thank you for another nice Daily to participate in because today we are in Nawiliwili , Hawaii where we landed on the Oosterdam on a Trans Pacific Cruise from New Zealand to Vancouver in 2013 .

Like @kb4683 has already shown we had also booked a flight going around Kauai with “Wings over Kauai “ a very exciting and amazing tour flying over the canyons with very limited access for people to go through over land by car or even by foot.

After the five of us were weight in so the weight was distributed properly over the plane we put on the headphones through with each of us could hear the pilot and also ask him questions we were ready to take off .  I had the extreme pleasure to be able to “ ride shotgun “ besides the pilot I only had to promise him not to touch any of the controls !

Oops.  I think yesterday I was having login problems on my primary laptop and mis-copied the meal to my backup laptop.  The entree was Roasted Spice Crusted Prime Rib(full portion).  There's no picture because this week I am doing somewhat fantasy meals, from my first HAL cruise (SS Rotterdam, 1997).  before my diabetes diagnosis.  I have neither the actual menus nor the actual meals I had but am working from my 2018 Rotterdam menus and what I might have chosen in that era.

@Seasick Sailor You wrote a cookbook??  I am so interested in hearing more about it, do you sell copies?

Hi Sharon. Yes I wrote a cookbook containing all my Bohemian family recipes from my great grandmother, grandmother, aunts etc. I worried that they would get lost one day. I asked all of our family members, cousins etc if they shared all their Bohemian recipes I would send them my cookbook as a thank you. I made 45 copies!

I decided to also add Allen's side if the family and have some very old southern recipes.

Yum on Prime Rib!  I’ll take that as a fantasy meal too. Thank you for your reply.

@sailingdutchy  great photos.

Did the pilot have you help him with the pre-flight checklist?  The owner was our pilot.  I was also “shotgun” 😉

Thank you @kb4683

Yes he did and we did the math together as far as distributing the weight over the plane !  Our pilot did fly for the company part time because his regular job was with a major American airline which I shall not name here .

And this was really one of those days where I can apply your quote of :  "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

Oh my gosh!   I did the same thing for my family.   Each of us contributed our favorite dishes to make along with the old family favorites and some heritage recipes like Grandma Grace's potato soup, colcannon, and Nanny Huener's German potato salad.  My niece uses the cookbook a lot.

IMG_1110.thumb.jpg.6675be6b24bcb68f44690d3e81bb4e7f.jpg

I included some of the history surrounding the heritage recipes and especially for spiedies, a Binghamton, New York specialty.

Had to share this amazing picture with you! Lightening striking One World Trade Center & the Empire State Building at the same time!  The photographer’s name is embedded in the photo. I hope he wins an award with this one.

Doing laundry today and then packing to head to Michigan for a few days.  We have a family picnic on Saturday.   We cancelled last year's picnic due to the pandemic and I haven't seen some of my family members since Christmas of 2019.   Looking forward to it.

Have a great trip & safe travels!
