doone Posted August 14, 2021 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2021 Considering Princess for an Alaskan cruise, wondering what type of sea day activities there are to do, are there free things and what do they charge for? many thanks……
chrysalis Posted August 14, 2021 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2021 If you look for the 3 "live from the Majestic" threads on the Alaska cruises, you will see posted photos of the daily Patter which lists all of the activities on board. That would be a good start.

God forbid if I go on a vacation with a group and have to do everything with them. 4

beg3yrs Posted August 14, 2021 #8 Share Posted August 14, 2021 You will only be bored on a sea day if you want to be bored. Activities are scheduled all day long and the majority of them are included in your cruise fare. In Alaska, some sea days are listed as Scenic Cruising so be out on deck to see the views. Other sea days not listed as scenic cruising you can still be on deck looking for sea life. Whales, dolphins, sea lions, birds and so on are plentiful. Exercise! Go to the gym, use the equipment, participate in a group class (not all of these are free, some charge). Use the Spa although there's pretty much nothing included there. It's all extra. You can always exercise outdoors too. On the Royal Class you can walk or run on their top deck course - what a view! Most other classes you can walk/run on the outside Promenade deck. Eat! Drink! There's usually a lecture or two in one of the venues during the day. They're very interesting and are usually well-attended. Live music in the atrium a couple of times a day. Bingo! Of course that costs but it's fun. One day there will be a wine tasting for a nominal charge. Afternoon tea is a favorite of many folks. BC (before Covid) there were things like bartender demonstrations, ice carving demonstrations and so on. Not sure if those are still going on. Same with staff-led games like trivia. This is only a few that come to mind. I know there is a lot more so as another poster suggested, read the Patters posted on the Live From threads and you'll be up to date on what's happening now.

Exceptions would be spa appointments, art sales if you purchase something, wine tastings, a few fitness center classes (no charge for Zumba and use of the fitness center is free). Of course the casino, when open, is not free. There might be small charges for craft sessions to cover the cost of craft materials.

They did not do any of these on the second sailing (Aug. 1) Another activity that we usually try to take in are the trivia contests, especially the music-related. The on-board naturalist talks are very popular on the Alaska sailings. Those are usually held in the main theater.
Kay S Posted August 14, 2021 #11 Share Posted August 14, 2021 Balcony reading. For Alaska, balcony reading all wrapped up to stay warm to wait for the occasional wildlife sighting.

Perhaps on Saturday was the ice carving, but we missed that. They announced each night at the 7:00 show that there were hosted games nightly at 8:15 and 10:15 in the Princess Live lounge like the Yes/No. We never went but did watch one of the Yes/No ones on TV and thought it looked like fun. We were also passing once during the day and saw another event at the Princess Live where they were guessing songs. They also have a couple of pools and lots of jacuzzis on decks 16 and 17 (indoor and outdoor). They aren't really long enough for laps, but I still did laps regularly and saw others swimming or watching the movies on deck 16. They ran during the day and night on a giant screen.
