Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  Thanks for explaining Come and Get It Day - I thought it was where you leave things on the lawn and people can come by and take what they want, which is what we had a few weeks ago.  I'm not a mad hatter; a silly hatter, yes, but not a mad hatter.  I'll pass on kale; to me it's like chewing on sandpaper.

Despite having smoke in the air, yesterday afternoon was a delight.  8 former colleagues came over with their lawn chairs and beverages and we sat in our back yard visiting for a few hours.  As one of them said - this was the nicest Covid break we've had, and it was.  We reminisced, we commiserated with each other's issues, traded war stories about our times in the courts, and caught up on each other's lives.  I served chocolate cake to go with the conversation and everyone left with a take-home piece as well.

As I predicted though, the moment the last car left the driveway, I rounded up DH from the garage and together we tackled the annuals in the front, side and back yards.  A mere 90 minutes later, the plants were removed, the pots emptied, and they were stored away to be reused next year.  The yard looked naked when we were done, but it was good to get it over with.  This morning my back is telling me I shouldn't have lifted quite as many pots at one time, though, so will see how it works for the rest of the day.

Today will be spent readying the house, as we're planning on heading out tomorrow to visit our darling little grandsons (and their parents) in Calgary.  Cleaning out the fridge, vacuuming, dusting, changing the linens, making sure Sochi has enough food (our cat sitter lives down the street and will check in twice a day for feeding), setting up lights on timers, etc., will take up a good portion of today's hours.  It's been a full year since we've been able to make the trip, so we'll pack a ton of stuff for the boys, and will look forward to enjoying Thanksgiving with them.

I've had today's wine and did enjoy it - in fact there's a bottle in our wine rack right now.  Today's menu suggestion is a good one, but because I don't want any leftovers in the fridge, I think we'll just head out and pick up some pizza and enjoy that on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do.  Raising the glasses to celebrate all on the happy list.  Stay well, wash your hands, wear your masks, be safe, and hydrate!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

What a mix of days to celebrate today!  Kale is not my favorite, though one time my DDIL prepared kale in the oven, seasoned and rather crispy.  DH and I ate it like good in-laws do.  At least it wasn't seaweed though it did resemble it.🤔  I did read that today is also Canadian Beer Day so go for it everyone!  Celebrate!🍺

I agree, kale is not on my meal plan....but I'll happily celebrate Canadian Beer Day!!

Good morning everyone. I continue to have to fool my iPad to get onto this site. Yesterday we completed the forms to transfer our timeshare to our daughter and now I have to read the rest of the instructions and send in the forms.
Nothing on today’s schedule. None of us, including our daughter really likes this aide but it’s very difficult to find good ones because their pay is so low. As soon as we can, we will go privately instead of an agency and will pay the aide directly. Still waiting for our wonderful one to return from Ghana but she doesn’t answer our calls or texts on what’s app.

Stay safe everyone,

Carol

Wow!  Good for you on the clean up.  If only took 90 minutes to do mine, I’d be a happy camper 😉   I would have been done a week ago. 🤣

Mad hatter reminds me of Alice in Wonderland and Wonderland speciality restaurant on RC Harmony of the seas.

Come and take it has a few interpretations in history.

Graham, you are correct that there are a few interpretatons of Come and Take It that I found when looking up more information after @richwmn Rich posted about the Battle of Gonzales.  I learned that the phrase was first used in the Battle of Thermopylae by the Spartan king.

I also learned that Mat hatter day was in honor of Lewis Carroll and Alice and Wonderland.  The suggestion for the day was to act silly and maybe, even wear at top had.

Good Morning All,

And happy Wednesday.

I have another landscape contractor coming in 20 minutes to look at our project. 😀

@Sea Viewer What ship is that? The scene is lovely. ( I need to get myself on a ship).

@cat shepard If you are battling calcium deposits, I’ve found a small amount of vinegar placed in a cup, top shelf and about a tablespoon of Lemi Shine powder mixed with the detergent clears away all calcium. I’m hoping it also keeps the machine prestine. Congratulations on the new dishwasher.

Have a great day everyone!

PS. Mad Hatter reminds me why so many milliners lost their faculties and lives. They were exposed to so many toxins- including mercury and arsenic.

Gerry, glad you and your former colleagues had a nice visit yesterday.  And then you were able to tackle the annuals, too.

Have a safe trip to Calgary and enjoy your time with your DGS and their parents.

Good morning all!

I think I will give a pass to the days today. Cone and Get It has bad connotation in my head because of gun activists. Kale is meh. I love Alice in Wonderland, but I was surprised many years ago when I found out the meaning behind being a mad hatter:

“the expression is linked to the hat-making industry and mercury poisoning. In the 18th and 19th centuries, industrial workers used a toxic substance, mercury nitrate, as part of the process of turning the fur of small animals, such as rabbits, into felt for hats. Workplace safety standards often were lax and prolonged exposure to mercury caused employees to develop a variety of physical and mental ailments, including tremors (dubbed “hatter’s shakes”), speech problems, emotional instability and hallucinations.” Sorry if I spoiled what was supposed to be a light-hearted day.

I love the chicken recipe and the wine, but I’ll skip the drink. Been to so many places in Mexico, but not that destination, pictures should be wonderful.

Prayers for our cares list 🙏 and joining in celebrations, good news and happy times 🍷

Good morning. Catalina was about 78 nautical miles from San Diego. So we slowly cruised and then did some drifting. Just entering San Diego with USS Abraham Lincoln #72 on our starboard side. We are heading for our dock. We will be picking up 300 new pax’s today. We are going on a Hal wine excursion tour.

Last night we had a fantastic dinner in Canelleto. Only three tables of diners. Specialty restaurants are not receiving much business so far. At 60% occupancy you definitely can find space. Pre dinner libations last night in Pinnacle Bar most of the time it was just us.

Had a female comedian last night who we enjoyed. The casino was hopping.. Seeing a lot of Players Club folks. BB King was packed as usual.

Time to get ready for another Pinnacle Grill breakfast.

Thanks to all.

On my laptop, iPad and tablet, there is a bar above the space where you type.  Just right of center are dropwown boxes labeled Font and Size.  Click on them and select the font you want and the size of type you want.   Hope this helps.

Several people gave me credit for explaining 'Come and Get it Day', but credit belongs to  @puppycanducruise for providing the first information.

That's what happens when I rely on my memory instead of double checking the previous posts.

Thank you Rich for setting the record straight.

@puppycanducruise  Sorry about the mistake, and thank you for the information on Come and Take It day.

Good morning, everyone.

I had a great time at lunch yesterday.   We went to "our place" where we pretty much had the back room to ourselves.  It is nice when you settle in and know you'll be there for a while.  We take good care of our server and she takes great care of us.

I'm going for my flu shot this morning and then hitting the grocery store.  I am making lunch for another friend for tomorrow.  We'll eat in here.  If it isn't threatening rain, we'll eat on the back deck.  Our menu will be fried chicken salad with green onion dressing and crusty bread.

Today's meal is a nice one.  One recipe calls for marinating the chicken in cider, others do not.

First, the marinated chicken.  It shows chicken breasts, but you can use any part of the chicken you like:  https://www.dessertfortwo.com/apple-cider-glazed-chicken/

I would substitute for the carrots.

And here is one with apples:   https://bluejeanchef.com/recipes/apple-cider-glazed-chicken/

Wishing everyone a great day!

Great recipes!  I'm definitely going to try this out.

@ger_77 Enjoy your trip and Thanksgiving with the family. How long does it take to get to Calgary?

Thank you.  Technically it's about a 7 hour drive, but we take our time, stopping at places along the way so I can buy yarn for the toques I knit, to stretch our legs, to get gas, etc.  It usually brings us to about the 9 hour mark.

Don't forget, I'm the one with the brown thumb, not green like yours, otherwise I'd have a ton more plants to deal with.  Thanks, looking forward to getting there and having those little arms around my neck again!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Rain last night, but clear by the time Bandit and I headed out. Cool temps and it is supposed be clear the next few days with maybe, maybe, maybe a few showers.  Next week snow is in our forecast as a strong possibility. I do see white mountain peaks. We shall see.... I did verify our snow clearance person so that is all set. No increase in price, yet.

I often feel like I have fallen down the rabbit hole and fully expect to see the Mad Hatter when I go out to shelter these days. People are dumping dogs (how can they do that???) and our shelter director is still out although we are hoping for his return in week or so.

Kale? Actually I will eat it although it certainly is not my first choice. It is on my rotation of "green leafies".

I notice on my calendar of things to do I have a note "check passport". Well, I can dream.
