Super Bowl on the Edge what to expect.

If all goes as planned (COVID not changing plans) we will be boarding the Edge on Super Bowl Sunday. I am curious if we could expect some sort of SB party or areas to watch the game. As we all know the SB falls right smack in the heart of dinner so we most likely will opt to skip our 8:30 seating in the MDR. I’m not at all worried about missing any meal since there are so many ways to grab a bite to eat I am just wondering if the ship does anything centered around the game that we can look forward to. After all I expect my team (NY Giants) to be in the game so I will not want to miss it…

ok ok perhaps a stretch for the Giants to be in it. We can at least look forward to the commercials. Lol.

I have cruised several times during Super Bowl on Celebrity.  There is always some kind of watch party.  In the past it generally was in the theater, and also playing in the casino bar, as well as places like the one that used to be a wine bar (on another ship) whose name totally escapes my 70 year old mind!

Super Bowl has taken place in the theater. We were on Edge in 2019 and Eclipse in 2018. They set the theater up with one side rooting for each team. There was “tailgate” type food at the back of the theater and of course drinks flowed - not FREELY - but for regular charge based on drink packages. The theater had very good crowds and people were quite vocal in their support. You should have a great time and if your favorite team is in the game bring along your team gear to wear.

Be prepared not to get the US commercials.  It used to be most sporting events were via an international satellite not a US feed.

understood. Since the ship would be in a US port at the start of the game I was wondering what the feed would be. Makes sense.
thanks

Don't laugh to hard, T, I am in New England and look what happened to us...of course the refs just did not want Pats to win, so there is that

I would love to be on board with a sea day for Superbowl, sounds like fun.  On a side note I was once in the Cardiac Ward during Superbowl and the nurses would not allow anyone to watch.

I cannot imagine why not????

Just as long as everyone had their oxygen tanks hooked up and nitro glycerine tablets at the ready...  What would be the problem???

LOL

In health and bon voyage

Here’s a pic of Jan 2020

lots of fun…tables all along the back of the theatre with burgers, dogs, chicken wings etc. Bar servers were going crazy…lol

Lets just say lots of folks were “ feeling” the effects of those drinks the next day !
We are not football fans but we had to check it out for a wee bit.

It was a heck of a party !

cheers

And that's what I said.  Not sure what was worse, their late night pizza deliveries that would smell up the ward, or the only view out the window that had the big Fat Burger sign.  At least we should have been allowed a beer and some wings

The Super Bowl in 2022 will not be played on the Edge. It will be played in Los Angeles. Celebrity has lost it's third bid to host a Super Bowl on one of it's ships. The NFL's response informed X that whenever a ship is built that can hold a minimum of 75,000 guests (fans) then serious consideration would be given them. Perhaps in 2050 on Celebrity Gargantuan. Cruise cost plus Super Bowl tickets and no AI begin at $150,000.00 for inside. Probably be lots of chatter about that too. Cruise length will be seven nights between the two Super Bowl cities and guests (fans) can party with the winners and losers. A good time to be had by all.

Something very similar was done on Royal Caribbean.
Loved it ! Especially when the team I was rooting for won.

Good I will book it now.  I look forward to seeing Tom Brady still playing then.

In the interest of clarity, this was Feb 2020.

For the 2021 NFL season superbowl, it takes place on Feb 13th 2022 which is the same day the Edge departs.  The next day is Valentines Day

We enjoyed Super Bowl Patriots vs Ram in 2019.  I think we were on the Edge.  They showed it in the roof top area but we went to the theatre where we had drinks served and buffet at the back with football tailgate-type foods.  I kept asking prior to the cruise and while on board and it was difficult to get an answer if it was going to be shown.  I think many people requested it.

Our experience was just as others here have said.  No commercials.  Lots of fun.  Great way to watch the game.

Also our team won but certainly it would still be a fun experience.
