cunnorl Posted October 31, 2021 #29 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Good Morning from a cool but sunny day at the beach Happy Halloween! Havent carved a pumpkin in a long time but my neighbor did and brought it over to show us last nite. We went to Icy Straight in 2014 on the Amsterdam. It was a tender port then. My son and BIL went on the Zipline, they loved it. I watched. I went to Catholic school so we always had Nov 1 off. I thought everybody did, quite a shock when I got to college. The town where I grew up has always had a Halloween parade. It is still going on, in fact it is scheduled for today. My nephews band will be performing. He is usually quite popular. Going to try again for the Zoom call today. She wasnt feeling up to it yesterday. Stay safe and enjoy today 26
Seasick Sailor Posted October 31, 2021 #30 Share Posted October 31, 2021 (edited) Happy Halloween Daily-ites! Thank you Rich for our Daily and Fleet report. We had so much fun last night for our neighborhood adult trick and treats. I'll post a few pictures in a minute. I was happy to see the Braves pull through last night. I know.. I live in Texas and should be rooting for the Astros but my sweet MIL loved her Braves and in good conscience.. There were some great pumpkins from the contest last night. We have some artists in the hood that's for sure. I myself haven't carved one for quite awhile. The dinner sounds good, but we're having fish tonight. Sometimes I feel I have psychic moments. And whoever's my guardian angel has been with me many times. Wishing you all a blessed Sunday. Sending up prayers and cheers. HAL4NOW Posted October 31, 2021 #35 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Icy Strait Point was a late stop in September. It got dark about 30 minutes after arrival. The rain was heavy the whole time we were there. I took a short walk on the beach trail and up into the woods and then looped back toward the ship. This would be a beautiful place to spend more time during the daylight hours. 34

ger_77 Posted October 31, 2021 #37 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Good morning, thanks for the Daily! Happy Halloween to all ! ! I haven't carved a pumpkin since DS moved out; I always enjoyed doing it with him. DH couldn't handle the slime inside. LOL I don't claim to be psychic, but I've certainly learned to listen to my intuition; sometimes I just "know" things. It's a cold fall morning here on the "frozen tundra" with a temp of -5C (23F), and it's only going to be a high of +3. One of the things that happens around here is no matter what your kids want to wear for Halloween, you always make sure it's at least 2 sizes larger than what they normally wear, because it leaves room for their snowsuits underneath. With that in mind, I remembered last night that a number of months ago we'd purchased over 100 pair of mini gloves to donate, and we'd forgotten about them. I'm taking them out and will give a pair to each little person (and big) who comes to the door this afternoon and tonight. Well, it happened. We received a casino offer from HAL for a free inside cabin for various cruises - I saw that there was a 14 day Panama Canal cruise from San Diego to Ft Lauderdale at the end of January, so I called. I wasn't happy with an inside cabin (in this day and age, if we're going to be quarantined on a ship, I want access to fresh air), so asked about upgrading to a verandah. I was pleased with the price for an upgrade, so we're going to be heading to San Diego at the end of January to board the Zuiderdam for 14 glorious days in the sun and far away from the "frozen tundra". Woo Hoo! @Seasick Sailorwow, some of your neighbours are pretty creative with their costumes! @1ANGELCATI really hope you get your biopsy results soon; waiting is horrible! Today's menu suggestion is one I'm going to take a pass on - DH can't handle hot spicy foods, so there's no point in making it just for me. I don't know what time the first trick-or-treaters will be arriving, so I'm going to put a pot of chili on the stove to cook this afternoon. If it gets busy at the door, we can take turns - one can hand out treats while the other eats dinner. If it isn't busy, we'll just eat together. Chili and garlic bread, yum! And wine. Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do. Extra prayers for special friends in need. We'll raise our glasses tonight in toast to all on the happy list, and to all the little ghouls and goblins roaming the streets tonight. Be safe, wash your hands, stay well and wear your masks! Smooth Sailing! 🙂🙂🙂 Gerry

aliaschief Posted October 31, 2021 #40 Share Posted October 31, 2021 The only Treat that I would like to have is being back on a Dam ship! It will come true again in March. Stir fry sounds good but we are having homemade French Onion Soup tonight. One step that makes it easier to make is that we cook the onions overnight in the crockpot! After a great sermon at church we have the tools to get us through another week. Enjoy the Trick or Treaters and the excitement of youth. 29

mamaofami Posted October 31, 2021 #43 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Good morning everyone. Happy Halloween. Through the magic of technology we were able to view a ceremony for the upcoming marriage of our friend ( in hospice) granddaughter that took place in a synagogue in NY. The grandkids and their son came from Israel so my friend could be part of the celebration since he won’t make it to the wedding next March. I have been having an issue with the aide being on the phone most of the day. So much so, that the cardiologist office told us they kicked him out of the examination room . Now he put his phone into a Sam’s blue tooth in Sam’s car and I’ve asked him not to talk on the phone while he’s driving. He wasn’t happy with me. I can’t lose him since he does drive and that relieves my daughter. I would love my old life back but that isn’t going to happen. Stay safe everyone, Carol 26

Cruising-along Posted October 31, 2021 #45 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Good morning all and Happy Halloween! I haven't carved a pumpkin in decades, and wasn't very good at it even then -- but love seeing the creativity of others'. Not sure if I have any psychic powers, but sometimes I "know" my daughter is going to call or text, and the next second she does. Love the Lily Tomlin quote -- miss her. The meal sounds too spicy for me, otherwise I'd love it. The wine sounds good, have never been to Icy Straight. We had a blast yesterday at the pumpkin patch with DD, DSIL, the boys and their scout group. It was more like a huge amusement park, I was amazed at how much they had to do for the kids. At first we weren't sure we'd be able to go, because of all the rain lately their parking lot is flooded! But thankfully they got us all parked up on a higher elevation. They had everything from giant slides, "apple cannons", mining for gems, huge corn maze, and more. And lots of food. The scout group had reserved a firepit that we had to reach by finding our way through the muddy, slippery corn maze (not easy even with a map!) then we had hot chocolate and s'mores around the fire. Fun day! The weekend is beautifully sunny, but the rain will be back again tomorrow for awhile. @Seasick SailorI love the photos of costumes! What were you and your DH dressed as? @ger_77congrats on the casino offer! I keep hoping we'll get one of those, but never have. We were told that playing Bingo counts too, and we play every game on a cruise...no offers though! Some photos from yesterday -- One of my DGSs, me and our group finding our way through the corn maze My favorite pumpkins there, Warty Goblins 30
Rare Vict0riann Posted October 31, 2021 #46 Share Posted October 31, 2021 Good morning, allDailyites! I'm baaack..... I'm not sure what the dinner will be tonight, I'll have to check the menu. oops, no menu, I have to make it myself. (But it won't have sriracha, although DD loves it, it is too hot for me!) Thanks for all the fun stuff today, I'm afraid I have no candy in the house, and we are going to isolate for a while, so I will just turn off all the lights and we will hide in the den and watch TV and hope no little kiddies know we are around - if anyone even passes by. Happy Halloween! @kb4683, congratulation on 20 years on CC, my, you are quite a lurker, hope you are joining in more now that you that you belong to this elite group of Daily posters! @1ANGELCAT, hope the biopsy results come in pdq, it's hard to wait. 22

Thank you to Rich, Roy, the F&B Department and the rest of you Dailyites. Hugs to the care list and cheers to those celebrating. Today marks my 20th anniversary on Cruise Critic. By my post count you can see I have mostly been a lurker 😆 We were in Icy Strait Point only once. It was during a repositioning cruise from San Francisco to Vancouver via Alaska on the =X= Mercury in April/May, 2008. This was before you could dock, so Mercury was anchored and we tendered to shore. There wasn't a lot to do there back then -- think they had the zip line. It was a beautiful spot, tho. We just walked around, went in the shops, etc. then headed back to ship where we had a ring side seat for the whale show. Kay Nice photos. Congratulations on your 20th anniversary on CC.
