Entertainment canceled on the Breakaway?

Wow!   It does look official.  We were on the Breakaway 2 1/2 weeks ago.   Syd Norman's house band and Six were excellent.

Very sad to think that those talented performers are perhaps ill.   I hope they are just under a short (and asymptomatic) quarantine.

On the ship now. It is true. All canceled for the remainder of our voyage. We did see Burn the floor and syd norman's last night and howl at the moon Sunday, but no more this week. We got the same letter in our room tonight.

My son and his friends are on the January 2nd sailing.  One of his friends called NCL and was told all entertainment was shut down along with the casino and some of the restaurants.  Is anyone onboard and can verify any of this.  We are supposed to join my son and cruise the Breakaway on the 9th.

 Is anything else cancelled?

I realize it can't be helped.  But at the same time, it is time for full refunds for those guests that wish to cancel.  This is not the cruise they purchased.

I don’t know about full refund but I would need at least 50%.  I am booked in two weeks and I bought a 7 meal dining package.  I intend to eat in a specialty restaurant every night. If they are closed that certainly is not the cruise I purchased. Also some better communication.  My mind is running wild with what is happening on that ship.  If I was on that ship I would be so stressed.  I take that back. I probably would need a 100 % refund because of all the stress I’d be experiencing because of not knowing why all these things are cancelled.

Exactly!  It's ridiculous to not give people an option to get their money back when they clearly can't provide even close to good service.  It's not their fault, but also they have an obligation to people who booked cruises when everything was open.

Has anyone heard about anything similar on other NCL ships?  I mean, if cast/crew are sick it's understandable that things would be shut down.  But how would they know for future sailings?  So if they're canceling preemptively -- especially the casino, which is a big money maker for them -- that could be of concern for the rest of the fleet.

I love to cruise. Many of you read my posts and I attempt to be positive and proactive.  After being cancelled over four times with all that goes along with that, I feel all of your pain. We did finally cruise recently just before this recent craziness started.

I love cruising and love the cruise industry.  This virus is not their fault.  All brands not just NCL are attempting to do business in a very strange and difficult time.  We as consumers, myself included need to know the risks.  I booked over a year in advance and had no idea of where the world would be.  It did not help.  Those booked on ships with entertainment or new mandates also booked well in advance.

This is cruising today and it won't change for quite some time.  None of us like it.  However the cruise company does not have to offer you, me or anyone else any refunds because they are following protocols or putting the health of their guest and cruise first. I don't like the result and neither do you.

If you have a final payment coming up, look long and hard at paying or asking for your deposit refunded. If you cruise, please buy great cruise travel insurance.  If you hate wearing a mask, for the future simply don't choose a cruise for your vacation plans.

I did something I never thought I would ever do.  I cancelled my upcoming cruise and my family and I are in the same self-inflicted lockdown we were a year ago.  We are older, in good health but don't want to take the chance.  "Just use good business judgement and we will all cruise together another day."

I think the short term future of cruising might be book at the last minute if things in the world are looking good. I’ve always booked my cruises far out.  Unfortunately I have the one booked on the Breakaway on the 9th and another cruise in March already paid for.  I never would have thought things would have been this bad when I booked them.

Even just a few short weeks ago things didn't seem so bad. But I knew it was only a matter of time on the ships based on the crazy that I've seen happening here in NYC. NCL really should be giving people the option to postpone. I know it would be a difficult business choice, but I can't imagine the influx of passengers testing positive is great for their business model either. I had a negative PCR on Monday, and today Wed is a positive rapid test. In theory, they'd be paying for my hotel accommodations. Doing that for 40+ people per sailing is going to be, at best, a hassle, but really it's proving to be impossible.

Yeah, I'm the same.  There are two separate but related issues here:  1) Are you willing to get on a ship and 2) Would you enjoy yourself.

I was on the Bliss a few weeks ago and am willing to accept that risk (at this time, with this variant.  Subject to change.)  But if the casino, entertainment, some of the restaurants, potentially ports/excursions are shut down, why would I?

I actually booked this cruise rather last minute after Carnival cancelled my December cruise on Horizon 9 days before sailing. Scrambled to get everything else moved as well. I a willing to make the best of things and have my fingers crossed one of my bids for the Haven is accepted. However, I would still like the option to move to a later date.

We are scheduled to sail on the Breakaway - departing New Orleans on January 16

Really hoping now that NCL will cancel - very happy to "just" receive FCC's

How much fun to go on a cruise if all the entertainment is cancelled ??

If we cancel ourselves, we will lose $$$

Why doesn't NCL do what all the other big cruise lines are doing ??

Strange times call for strange actions.

When was the cruise you canceled going to sail and what ship was it?

I also recently cancelled...

You are correct, I am on that some same cruise and wish they would cancel.

If they are canceling all of the shows and closing some restuarants then that is definely not the cruise that I booked. I am guessing if they are closing the casino then they are not having bingo or game show games. This is wrong to put out a stripped down cruise and not give people the option to cancel. I am fine with a FCC also.

Things are rapidly changing. I have a friend currently on the Queen Mary, supposed to be round trip NY to Caribbean and back, then the ship sails on to Southampton.

They are in Barbados until Jan 2nd, will NOT be returning to NY but set sail from Barbados directly to Southampton. Working out the logistics of getting the passengers who were to disembark in NY back to NY and of course the TA scheduled from NY to Southampton is cancelled

Since its only the BA (for now) they must have had a huge outbreak with the performers for these shows. I wouldn't be surprised if we see cruises cancelled in the next few weeks for a month or so

It's also happening on a few Royal ships as well.

I feel the exact same way. I almost scheduled this cruise because it was so close to my birthday on the 7th but I scheduled for April 2022. This is terrible I am so sorry this is happening. I hope NCL steps up.

I got a letter yesterday saying that our Pride of America cruise would have reduced staff (as they are sailing at reduced capacity), so they will also be cutting services. The main dining rooms are closed for breakfast and lunch all week, and Moderno and Teppanyaki will also be closed. Those are our favorites, and as this is a smaller ship that amounts to a third of their upsell restaurants.
