Glad yours has been clearing up. My husband's seems to be effecting his upper right thigh/hip area. His rash is on his leg and buttocks. The main reason I wish I were there to help is that we live in a condo that is on the second floor, so he has to do stairs to pick up food and such that is delivered. Also, he has been unable to drive, because it's his right leg. Fortunately, our friends have been helping out on my absence. I'm so sorry to hear your hubby has shingles - ouch!! Terrible timing, but sounds like he's well cared for until you get home, and you're still able to enjoy yourself... you can lavish him with pampering upon your return. But just crappy timing! Maybe you can take him on a cruise soon to help him recover 😉 And on that note... enjoying your posts about cruising!! It's been over two years since our last cruise and I'm living vicariously through people like you 🙂
Rare JamieLogical Posted March 21, 2022 Author #202 Share Posted March 21, 2022 I decided to cancel my second leg. I just am not able to enjoy myself knowing how much my husband is suffering and even though he might be feeling a lot better by Thursday, I decided I would rather go home and not be needed than spend another 4 days worrying and feeling guilty if I am needed.

I think we all understand and wouldn’t want a spouse suffering even for a little while. There will be another cruise and we will enjoy with you the rest of this cruise and the next one whenever that is.
Rare abbydancer2003 Posted March 22, 2022 #206 Share Posted March 22, 2022 I was on the Summit twice last year, so I'm enjoying following your cruise. My sister had shingles in her 20s, - and she said it was terrible. My best wishes to your husband. When my sister and I were on the Summit last August, our room steward was Roman, from Ukraine. He left the ship on 11/5. I've been thinking about him a lot. I don't know if you can find out anything about how he's doing, or even how you'd go about it, but if you can, I'd appreciate it. Please don't feel you have to spend any time on it though. Have a wonderful rest of your cruise.
Rare JamieLogical Posted March 22, 2022 Author #207 Share Posted March 22, 2022 3/21 Yesterday was a sea day. My morning started like any other on a ship, a sharp knock on the door of room service being delivered. I had my coffee and croissant out on the balcony and poked my phone for a bit, then I had to come inside to type up my notes from the previous day, because the wifi signal isn't great out on the balcony. It actually took me quite a while to type up all my notes and before I knew it, I was actually in a rush to make breakfast before Blu closed at 9:00. I made it down there just before 8:45 and some other people were just arriving, so I didn't feel too bad about getting there so late. I even got a window seat as they were clearing the table of a couple who had just left. For breakfast, I had and cheese and mushroom omelet and some bacon. I asked for my bacon "crispy" and they did not disappoint! I also had the first mimosa of the morning, which turned out to be my doom. After breakfast, I decided to keep the mimosa train running and headed over to Cafe al Bacio to read my book and drink two more mimosas. I then remembered that I had a free bottle of sparkling wine chilling in my fridge, along with a glass of orange juice I had ordered with my previous day's room service breakfast specifically for the purpose of making mimosas. So, I headed back to my room to watch some streaming content on my laptop and drank two GIANT mimosas, using up the whole bottle of sparkling wine. I was then in a coma until 3:00, when I woke up and realized I had not eaten any lunch! I had had grand plans of eating in the MDR for lunch since it was a sea day and despite this technically being my third sailing on the Summit, I have never eaten in the MDR! Oh well. My app told me that only the Mast Grill was currently open for lunch, but I decided to give the buffet a shot and, as expected, the pizza station was at least open, so I got a slice of pizza, which is the perfect drunk person food. After my small, sad, lunch of shame, I came back to the room and laid down again for a bit. Once I was feeling vaguely human, I put on my Evening Chic attire and went down to Cafe al Bacio for a very late afternoon coffee. Then it was already dinner time! I headed over to Blu, where duck was the theme for my night. I ordered the Duck Rillettes appetizer off the MDR menu and the Duck Ravioli off of the Blu menu. I also ordered the bean soup from the Blu menu. It was after dinner that I decided to cancel my back-to-back. I had found out I needed to cancel by the end of the day in order to get my cruise fare back as FCC. It was such a tough decision, but I think I made the right call. I went into the cruise planner and canceled all my pre-booked casino credits and upgraded drink package. Hopefully that will get the money refunded to my credit card a little quicker. I wasn't able to cancel my MoveUp bid, as it was too late. Hopefully if I "won" a bid, that money will eventually make it back to my credit card too? The FCC I plan to just apply towards my Alaska sailing in September. After getting all the cancellation stuff out of the way, I headed down to the Rendezvous Lounge for the Whisper gameshow, which is always good fun. Then I hit the casino for a bit before the main theater show, which was Intimate Broadway Cabaret. That's a show where the production cast just sing their favorite Broadway songs. On the way in, the Captain was handing out roses to all the ladies. I texted my husband that he would need to fight the Captain once he was feeling better. After the show, I decided to skip a second round at the casino and just head up to late night snack so I could get to bed on the early side, since I had my shore excursion first thing in the morning. I need to be on the dock at 8:10.

So sorry about your husband, I remember the agony my dad had while on a cross country car trip with Shingles. BTW you should check with your insurance about get the shingles vaccine, I got my first one in my 50's after I saw what my dad went through. Do not let the cost deter you from getting one. My husband is also currently only 42. He will be 43 in April.

I believe it is, and around $250. Money well spent, imo.

cluso Posted March 22, 2022 #222 Share Posted March 22, 2022 I got my first shingles shot in 2015 when it was a single version. Now, there is a different procedure. Two shots, Shingrix #1 and Shingrix #2. They have to be spaced 2 months apart. I did that last Fall, with all sorts of other jabs last year. 🤪
