Horizon chaser 1957 Posted March 9, 2022 #51 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good morning, all! When my girls were small, Barbies dominated the house. The pair of shoes they come with have a half life of six minutes. The surviving shoe will randomly appear on the bedroom floor twenty years later to be stepped on barefoot. Like @smitty34877, I panic after the crisis. During my career as the Occupational First Aid attendant on our watch, this was a real saving grace at times. After one very nasty incident, one of the crew said ‘How do just step in and calmly deal with that? I would have been freaking out!’ Well, the outer me may have been calmly assessing the injury and doing what needed to be done, but the inner me fled the scene and hid early in the game. I loved today’s port, Puerto Montt! It’s roughly the same distance from the equator as the Pacific Northwest, and has a very similar climate and vegetation. But it has summer when we have winter. The town of Frutillar on Lake Llanquihue ( pronounced Yankee-way🤷🏼♀️) is very much like tourist towns in southwest BC or Washington State, and really felt like home. I could really see spending a few months there in our winter. When our tour stopped by the lake, they were setting up for a local marathon. The entrants all had special t-shirts. My nephew is an Ironman competitor, and I desperately wanted to get him a T-shirt for his birthday. Our guide helped me ask if I could buy a shirt, or donate to the cause to get one, but as I suspected this was strictly against the rules. However, if I registered for the marathon, I would get a runners pack including the T-shirt, in any size I wanted. It was free, and I didn’t have to actually run. So I produced my passport, filled in the forms, and got my nephew a shirt. And that is why, in the town of Llanquihue Chile, I am officially listed as having been a participant in the 60 - 70 year old women’s catagory of the 2020 Marathon. Relaxing at our first port away from the cold. Awaymfrom the riot damage near the port, the lovely street art reappears. Vegatation and farms so much like home The beach town of Frutillar The art along the boardwalk. Lunch, at a small restaurant literally in the suburban backyard of the chef. You chose, at time of reservation, beef, fish, or vegetarian. You were served what he was inspired to make of that choice that day. It was amazing! And wine. And the national liquor Pisco. And finally, the park in Llanquihue and registration for the local marathon. Happy Wednesday, everyone. Cheers to our beloved BHB’s! Rare Vict0riann Posted March 9, 2022 #53 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Yesterday was a tiring day! I have my physio appointment and she gave me some new exercises to do which are getting more strenuous. Then a few hours at the mall (I bought some new shoes!) and my appointment with the dentist. He and his wife are cruisers and so we discussed travel, of course. They are going to Croatia in May for a cruise and land trip, they recommended Oceania, but when I said we get free laundry on HAL, they agreed we would want to stick with the BHBs. They have an Oceania cruise booked to the Baltic later this summer, but St. Petersburg has been cancelled, and they don't think they will go. So it was a very sociable appointment, my teeth are fine, I thought it had been 8 or 9 years since I had been in but it was *only* 6 1/2, so I could have waited! With that over, I can have my Prolia shot on Monday. Prayers for everyone on the cares list and we celebrate with everyone back to cruising! We were in Puerto Montt in 2017 on Zaandam with friends. I can't remember who organized our tour, I don't think it was me, but it was very similar to @StLouisCruisers' tour. We went to a coastal town, Frutillar, for a bit of bird watching then Puerto Varas and the National Park. My pictures are similar. Zaandam at anchor Frutillar waterfront Is it a sharp-shinned hawk? (Our children always called them shark-finned hawks...) Colourful things to buy Thick with ash. 29
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted March 9, 2022 #54 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good morning from a sunny and windy Mazatlan. I'm not sure what we'll do today. Another group of interesting days to observe. Barbie dolls came out about the time I stopped playing with dolls, and I never had one. The DDs had barbies, and the dolls along with all their clothes and accessories are in the attic in Texas. I try not to panic, but find letting go can be hard at times. I like today’s quote. We'll pass on the drink, wine and the meal. We had mole while on a tour out of Puerto Chiapas. As a chocolate lover, I was looking forward to tasting it. I found I really did not care for mole. The lunch was not on the tour information, but was provided by the local ladies at a church we visited. We were in Puerto Montt in 1999 on Noordam III. I don't have any digital pictures, but it is a very scenic port. @kazu Jacqui, I hope the interview goes well. @StLouisCruisers Sandi, how nice the young couple are expecting again. Best wishes to them. I am enjoying all the cruise pictures and all the memes. Lenda 24

A lot of snow has melted over the past couple of weeks. JazzyV Posted March 9, 2022 #57 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily. Interesting days. Barbie as in the doll or BBQ was my first thought; I wish I still had my Barbie dolls. Getting over things often takes time. I'll say no to Panic Day; having worked in healthcare you learn not to panic. Funny quote, but it's true that being Christian is also about actions. I've never had mole sauce on anything. I'll pass on the drink and wine. I have been to Puerto Montt, Chile on my SA/Antarctica cruise on the Zaandam in 2018. I was thrilled to hear today that Shackleton's Endurance has been found in Antarctica and is in relatively good shape! It's been snowing here since about 6AM. Very wet, heavy snow. Fortunately the ground is not that cold, so the roads aren't too bad, but the grass and roofs have about 3" so far. @Mr. Boston I hope you feel better each day. @aliaschief It sounds like you're enjoying Azamara a lot. @dfish Your highlights sound like fun! Please share a picture after it's done. @kazu I hope your meeting with social services is productive. @cunnorl I'm glad you'll get to play in the golf tournament. @StLouisCruisers Prayers for a successful pregnancy outcome for the couple. @Sea Viewer Sorry to hear DH is having issues; I hope he feels better now. Any new meds that could be the culprit? Prayers for the Care List, Ukraine and its people and helpers. Cheers for the Celebration List. Stay safe all. 27
StLouisCruisers Posted March 9, 2022 #58 Share Posted March 9, 2022 @JazzyVVanessa, that is amazing news about the Endurance being found. Really fascinating, and I hope to be able to see the National Geographic special on the story. The pictures look so good, especially at depths of nearly 10,000 feet. Thanks for letting us know!

Sea Viewer Posted March 9, 2022 #60 Share Posted March 9, 2022 @JazzyV, thanks for mentioning the meds, he has had several changes over the last couple of weeks with blood pressure meds. it seems every time he visits a doctor they want to "tweak" his meds a bit. I have been monitoring his compliance and he seems fine now. Fingers crossed that no more incidents. M

kb4683 Posted March 9, 2022 #62 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good afternoon from Amber Cove! Thank you everyone for the congrats Monday for our anniversary. 🤗. We had a great day. Last night we did Rudi’s Sel de Mer (1st time ever)…wonderful! A complimentary welcome cocktail made with bubbly An amuse bouche (salmon spread ?) Different toppings for the bread DH had the trio salad and I had the fried calamari Entrees were Alaskan king crab (me) and whole Dover sole (DH) Dover sole after being de-boned Aftermath 😵💫. I ate all I could then picked the remaining legs and took the meat back to the cabin with good intentions of making myself a crab salad today…yeah, right 🤣 Next course dessert, but wait…they had to bring out petit fours first! Then profiteroles for me and a cheese board for J Now we are stuffed to the gills and here they come with an anniversary dessert! (Already had one the night before in the MDR — this one went back to the cabin for later.) A great evening! Kay 31

Maybe it was wishful thinking they'd have twins again. Just wanted to clarify that point. dfish Posted March 9, 2022 #65 Share Posted March 9, 2022 I'm enjoying the pictures of Puerto Montt. I was there in 2011 aboard the Veendam. My pictures are the same as what is posted including the weather from @JazzyV's visit. Even though we were fogged in, I loved the trip up the Osorno volcano and I was mesmerized by the color of the water at Petrohue Rapids. What beautiful scenery. We also visited Frutillar and Puerto Varas. I want to do that trip again. Lady luck smiled down on me and my phone call follow up to the MRI has been moved up to March 23. There was a cancellation apparently. Or someone decided a 5 minute phone call wasn't that hard to fit into the schedule. I had a work around. I'll see the results on My Chart. I was going to print them out and take them into my primary care doctor. Or call John and read them to him. @StLouisCruisers Congratulations on the new pregnancy. I, too, will pray for a wonderful outcome this time.

When does the snow in your yard usually melt away? The trees are in bloom here -- still a bit chilly, but spring is definitely in the air. @kb4683Kay your dinner looks amazing! A good friend recently had dinner at Rudi's on the Rotterdam and was very disappointed with her Dover sole. She said it was swimming in so much butter she couldn't eat it. Your DH's sole looks good though. 13

Rare Crazy For Cats Posted March 9, 2022 #69 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report. Today’s meal suggestion sounds good and @dfish recipes look very tasty. There is a local restaurant that does a good job with this dish. I ordered our home monitored test Sunday afternoon and they arrived this afternoon by FedEx. Next step will be to setup the account and watch the YouTube video. It’s trying to snow this afternoon but doubt much will come of it. 17

Quartzsite Cruiser Posted March 9, 2022 #71 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good afternoon. We did get off the ship, took the tram to the port building, then walked around looking at the various vender stalls. While DH waited in the port, I made a quick trip across the street to pick up a few things I forgot yesterday. Of course, they didn't have what I wanted. Maybe tomorrow in Puerto Vallarta. Sunday, we were excited to learn our cabin steward was a great one we had before. Today, Toto told us his contract is up and he's going home tomorrow in PV. We're glad we saw him and know that he came through the last two years alright, and still has his job. This afternoon will be spent relaxing and reading. @Mr. Boston I'm glad you are feeling better, and hope you feel better everyday. @dfish Debbie, the highlights sound like fun. Glad your appointment got moved up. @cunnorl I'm happy your nephew talked you into playing in the tournament. @Sea Viewer Good that your DH is better this morning. Sometimes taking all the meds to the pharmacist is a good idea. They know the drugs and can spot potential reactions between drugs, especially if prescribed by different doctors. @kb4683 The anniversary dinner looks good. AncientWanderer Posted March 9, 2022 #73 Share Posted March 9, 2022 Good afternoon, Everyone. Recently on Koningsdam the Club Orange chef did a lamb dish with mole sauce. It was really delicious. Somehow the strong taste of lamb stood up well to the mole sauce. I'd only had the sauce with chicken before and didn't care for that. Puerto Montt, Chile is a fabulous port stop -- really beautiful. We rented a car and saw most of the things that others have pictured here. I recall the rental process being a bit of a hassle, but once completed, we had a great day. Roads were good and it was a very pleasant experience. @kb4683Kay, betcha eat that cake. It's different than the one in MDR -- great mousse. Well, last year I had one for my birthday, and we did eat all of it after having it sent to our stateroom. It's kind of grumpy time around here, sad to say. DD and DGD both have covid. DD is pregnant, so we worry -- though she is triple vaccinated. So far she's had fever and bad headache. DGD is still full of energy, although fever comes and goes. Oddly, DSIL did not test positive. I've been delivering dinners. We do what we can. In other news, sweet pup Pocket had his boy business surgery, so he's fighting with his Elizabethan collar all day. You guys know how that goes. As I say, grumpy time. On that cheery note, I'm happy to see so many of you out there on cruises and making plans for cruises -- some very extensive plans. Things are coming around! Have a great afternoon/evening. Thanks to all. 🌻 20
