With recent changes in testing expectations, could some kind person clarify testing requirements for those Canadian citizens who are fully vaccinated and wish to board a cruise ship in Vancouver?

The announcements today didn't change the existing regulations for embarkation in Vancouver:

  • Passengers must take a COVID-19 molecular test within 72-hours before boarding a cruise ship or take an antigen test within one day of the scheduled departure.
  • Before their cruise departs, a traveller will need to enter their trip information into the ArriveCAN website.

What has changed is the deletion of the requirement to be tested prior to disembarkation in Vancouver at the conclusion of your cruise.

So do i even need to download ArriveCan when returning home from Florida?

ArriveCAN reporting still a requirement for the time being, but with the option of using the online version instead of the app if you prefer.

The antigen test has to be done the day before cruise now? Thought it was 2 days. I'm flying into Vancouver the day of cruise first flight early morning.

Yes, the GOC regs currently call for antigen testing within 1 day of boarding, or a PCR test within 72 hours. As you are flying in on the day of the cruise [I'll skip the lecture on why you shouldn't 😇] you can still take your test the day before.

It has never been 2 days in Canada. It has always been "within 1 day of scheduled departure" for an antigen test. https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/domestic-travel

If you can't get a test where you live, they are a number of options available in YVR. http://www.yvr.ca/en/passengers/travel-planning/takecare/covid-19-testing

Thank you for the clarification on the testing. At first I had read only the one day prior antigen test was to be used. There is still a long time till we get to our June Alaskan cruise so there may be further changes upcoming.

I think you are on 4/23 Eclipse? Celebrity current requirements are Antigen 2 days prior for cruises departing the US, however they have not come out with Canada departure rules. My understanding is they will match the Country of departures requirements. We plan to do a rapid Molecular NAAT test on the 21st before flying to YVR.

Yes, if they want to cruise from Canada, Celebrity will have to abide by the Canadian regulations. The requirements aren't optional.

Is there a Shoppers Drug Mart offering the antigen test required for boarding ship near the terminal in Vancouver? If so, link, address, please post

Try a local Costco $17 or Walmart $20. You can register 2 weeks in advance on both sites.

We are getting our tests at the airport.  Here is a site with a list.  I believe the fairmont vancouver, a couple blocks from the fairmont water front has a testing site.

There's a Costco pharmacy at 605 Expo Blvd in Vancouver but don't see antigen tests offered there.  If you want to save some money try a Walmart store in the area.

If the pre-boarding testing requirement is still required when cruising begins in earnest out of Vancouver, I expect we'll see sidewalk testing tents sprouting up like dandelions within two blocks of the cruise terminal.

Is that what it is like at POM and other US cruise departure areas?
