Well if you read the other posts you will see there has been an increase of onboard cases since the mask policy was dropped on several ships.  Not sure, even as much as I hate to wear the mask, that it doesn't help in some way.  We just returned from a 10-day partial Panama transit and the mask policy was pretty much non-existent the entire time.  My husband tested positive the day after we arrived back home after the cruise, and I also tested positive 4 days later.  We pretty much stayed to ourselves and didn't socialize as we normally do, spent a lot of time on our balcony and avoided really crowded areas.  Didn't really help, lol.  We are both fine with minimum issues concerning the Covid itself,  just the self-quarantine after arriving home.  Those annoying masks might be what keeps you from contracting the illness. 🤔

If you have the right mask....

I don't like wearing masks. I really don't like wearing masks. We are double vaccinated and double boostered so are as protected as we can get without masking. However, we're booked to sail Royal Princess out of Vancouver on May 2nd and, if they require masking, I'll wear the dang mask. Their ship, their rules. (Plus we really don't want to catch the crud.)

The Princess website shows gorgeous, sunny weather, and smooth seas. It was cool and rainy on my September cruise. We even missed multiple ports because it was supposedly too dangerous to try to dock with 10 meter swells and 70 knot winds.

Shame on Princess for their false advertising! How dare they adapt to changing circumstances!

🙄

Just an update. Cruise ships have recently reinstated mask requirements because of outbreaks.

Of the ten HAL and Princess ships (passenger carrying) listed with the CDC, only the Discovery Princess is green. Seven ships are orange (CDC investigating).

Do you have a list of ships requiring masks?

It breaches U.K. advertising standards. What is advertised and what happens should be the same.

By all means use masking if that is supposed to help but don’t keep advertising it as discretionary when it clearly is not. The contract does not cover that.

That is my argument.   IF you know you will require masks or not  STATE IT ON WEBSITE

If a change is needed, the reasons with numbers must be spelled out clearly.

Discovery Princess is on it's first passenger carrying cruise.  If they don't have to wear masks, infections will start soon after their first port call and keep spreading exponentially after that.  This has been the pattern on all of the ships.

I hope it is true that mask requirements have been reinstated. I don't like masks any more than anyone else, but it is a necessary evil.

I think mask wearing on ships is going to be required for a very long time. Covid is not going away anytime soon and we will get new variants & surges of outbreaks.

Some people are okay with it and I know others that have stopped cruising completely until the masks are gone.

It's a personal choice to either cruise under these conditions or not.

It’s not required on the Discovery Princess.  Also, smoking is allowed in the casino again.  The Princess website states that at least one night the casino would be smoke free but that didn’t happen.

We don't often read through our contracts but we nonetheless accept them.  We shouldn't be too surprised that we were not aware of all of  its provisions.

Conditions may change rapidly and sometimes require sudden adaptation of protocols.

Contract here:  Princess Cruise Lines, Ltd Passage Contract - Princess Cruises

And the contract also says that no matter what it said when you booked the cruise and agreed to the contract, that Princess can change the contract at any time and also that the ship's Captain can also make changes specific to when you are on the cruise.

We were supposed to be on the Caribbean Princess this Sunday San Francisco to Vancouver and just got an emergency notification the cruise is “cancelled to allow additional time for the ship's extensive scheduled dry-dock”.   Glad we hadn’t left home yet.  Can’t help but wonder if there are many Covid cases onboard and they decided to just cancel the cruise.

Another thread covers this topic and says Canada will not let the ship dock in Canada with passengers due to the number of Covid cases onboard at this time.

I don't know about the other ships but here on the Enchanted they're now asking people to wear masks indoors and outdoors.

Other than seeing a slight increase from last cruise you wouldn't really know it.

The majority still go without them.

No one has actually confronted passengers asking them to put one on except when leaving the ship on desk 4.

There have been a few upset people on the elevators when it gets to crowded for them.  I've seen a few just get off in a hurry and wait for another one.

Any idea what the numbers are on Enchanted?

If you're asking about total passengers, last cruise it was around 3,000.

This cruise I think it's slightly less. We'll find out at the repeaters party in a few days.

And none of their advertisements ever show anyone wearing a mask! More false advertisements!

Well then someone should sue pretty much EVERY cruise line since what is on the website and what happens on the ship hasn't matched 100% in Any of our sailings on 5 different lines- Guessing things also happen on those we haven't sailed as well, purely based on what we read from this site by those who have used those companies.

Asking if they are announcing how many have covid?

I don't think you'll find any cruise line that has ships broadcasting how many Covid positive cases are onboard.  Each ship transmits the counts on a daily basis to the CDC and even the CDC does not release those numbers to the public.  Any Covid positive case counts reported by passengers are solely based on speculation and rumor.  The only verifiable information for Enchanted is that during the last 7 days, she had more than three tenths of one percent of passengers and crew onboard and is coded orange by the CDC.  The fact that she is not coded red means the CDC believes the infection rate is not widespread and that the ship's Covid mitigation program is working properly.

All of the passengers are good-looking and within a healthy weight range, as well. 🤔

Currently on Sky Princess

UK Princess protocols clearly state no masks required, recommended but not required.

Boarded Monday, must wear masks. Now the ridiculous ‘sip and cover’ (although mainly being ignored) in all bars.

Totally not what we were expecting. Very disappointing. Can’t understand why website (updated on 31 March) still saying no masks but reality totally different.

Not happy at all, last cruise with Princess for us

Feel for you OP. They should of notified passengers of this before the cruise and allowed 100% refunded cancellations and probably tossed in a little bonus for the inconvenience. This is not a good sign to be sure and I would be highly disappointed also. Masked cruising? Not even for free! No thanks.

Not an official word but I did hear from the crew that it was zero for the crew members last check.

There still holding cabins on deck 8 starboard and deck 9. I heard there for quarenteening new crewmembers before introducing them into the working population.

While that may be true, enough are NOT OK with it that the lines don't survive. Half empty ships may be great for the mask lovers and those who want a private yacht experience on a McDonald's budget, but when the lines can't even fill ships with free/nearly free cruises, it's simply unsustainable. Folks already hate testing, masking is even more despised. Scared money don't make money.

Also you cant have it both ways.

Cruise lines are going back to FULL penalty for cancellation

Cant do that and claim endless emergencies requiring masking.
