Good morning, thanks for the Daily!  I love children's books, especially when there's a grandson sitting on my lap and I can read it to him.  Peanut butter?  Yes !!   I love it in everything except cookies.  On bananas, on apples, in a satay sauce, you name it.  Oh, and jelly is good, too.  We've tended to do a lot of DIY's over the years, but lately when looking at more involved chores, we're thinking of getting someone else to do things.

Today's quote is interesting, just as Hemingway was.  One can get lost in a book as you use your imagination to create the visual of the story.

Yesterday we took a drive out into the country to bring our taxes to the lady who works her magic on them and were pleased to see there was still a considerable amount of snow in the fields.  That means - at least around here - there will be moisture to start the crops once seeding can begin.  Unfortunately that isn't the case in the southern part of the province where there was much less snow and fields have been dry for over a week already.  We hope for lots of April showers.

@kazu I'm sure your local food bank would be happy to be the recipient of your peanut butter.  I'm sorry you're having to fight tooth and nail to get proper care for Jose; it shouldn't have to be that hard!

@marshhawk I'm sorry you're not feeling well; you must take time for yourself, otherwise you won't be able to help your DH, please remember that.

@smitty34877 I hope today will be a better one than yesterday; try to get some rest.

I like today's menu suggestion, but DH's daughter called last night and figures it's warm enough for them to have a bonfire tonight.  We're going to have hot dogs cooked over an open fire (yay!), and I'll bring along a potato salad.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who needs them and even for those who don't think they do. Extra prayers for Ukraine and all who are providing aid, as well as our Daily family who are struggling. We'll salute all who are on our happy list as we let the smoke follow us from chair to chair.  LOL  Stay safe, get your boosters, wear your masks when you need to, wash your hands and be well.

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

I am so sorry to hear about your cancelled flight.  I know you said you checked ALL flights.  Did you call Southwest? Did you check flight to Miami and West Palm?  Hoping you can find a flight.  🤞

We do have to take an antigen test three days before boarding the Nautica, next Friday.

This came out all wrong,  I should have written: We have to take an antigen test next Friday,  April 8, before boarding the Nautica on Monday April 11.

This morning I stumbled upon this

Prinsendam.thumb.jpg.17512d87a74dd63d1f3237ff8d47c4ae.jpg

This is a picture I took of Prinsendam 10/01/17 while I was on the land portion of a long cruise / land / cruise vacation

And since pet pictures are always appropriate

Thank you Rich for the Daily Report, thank you Roy for the Cares and Celebration Report, and thank you Debbie for today's recipes. And thank you all for being here.

My sister will find out the results of her most recent scan this week to see if the new treatment has any effect on her cancer. The new medication for the immunotherapy is not going well for her and leaving her very nauseous. Time will tell.

We received a very disappointing email very early this morning concerning this coming week's cruise! The flight to FLL on Southwest was cancelled last night due to equipment problems. Our rebooked flight was to be  Sunday evening - well after the ship sails.! Checked ALL of the available options to no avail. So, that means we will not be cruising this week on the Rotterdam. All of preparation (COVID test, dog sitter reservation, hotel reservation, and airport parking) are now wasted. I guess the new precaution is to fly TWO days before a cruise! Now on to finish the rest of the cancellations.

Have a good weekend!

How about driving?  Isn’t that possible?  Virginia to Fort Lauderdale is doable in one day.

He's probably between 900 and 1000 miles away.  Not easy to shift gears to a driving trip at the last second.  Where I live is about 600 miles and would be a lot easier.  Wouldn't like having to do it though.

We are just under 1000 miles and Google maps showed 14+ hours duration. Unfortunately at our age we have trouble driving past rest areas so it would be a bit longer.  😁

The drive down would not be as much of a problem as the return. Our dog sitter is completely booked for April. That meant flying instead of driving like we had originally planned. She is dog sitting someone else next Sunday night so Sam would be all alone. Having a neighbor visit would be an option but he has separation anxiety from his previous lives. It would be hard on him.

We checked other airlines and airport pairs but didn't find anything that was affordable or workable at this last minute. American had two seats left but DSIL is with us so even that wouldn't work. I am not sitting on the wing.  😁

Actually I wonder if Southwest is having another meltdown as other SWA flights to other locations seem to be having similar problems.

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Thanks for the daily report and lists.  Great collection of days children’s books are great and can become friends for life.  Love the quote.  The meal suggestion sounds delicious but a bit carby for me, ok, maybe just a bite.  Haven’t been to today’s port and am enjoying the pictures so far.  Prayers for everyone on our list today.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events!

Just trying to give you an alternative.  I live in South Carolina and we have done it in about 10 hours.  It was long and tedious but figured it could be done with two drivers.

Sorry it won’t work for you.

Good morning all from our Covid Marriott hotel in Ft Lauderdale , DW and I are making good progress and finally had some attention from a nice lady of Family Assistance who do the work for Holland America getting us better . We were able to rebook our flight home with FlightEase for the coming Monday so we can prepare our self’s for our next cruise on April 17th .
Roy @rafinmdthank you for your thought by placing us on the daily care list but please remove us from that tomorrow , there are many more people other than us that need the support .

There were a lot of people from our cruise transported to this hotel but many have already left for home in the US . For us being from Canada was that not possible until new rules for citizens came into effect yesterday .

Our stay here was reasonably good we were able to go on walks outside the hotel to get fresh air in nice temperatures and do some daily shopping while masked at Publix , but we really missed our wonderful cabin , our new friends we met on board @Overhead Fredand some very familiar wonderful crew we met from cruises past.

When back home we can sort out with HAL the damages .

I have to say that in our mind HAL brought this Covid flood upon itself by relaxing mask rules too much and too fast and also by bringing so many gamblers on board for a nickel and a dime while we paid good money for our cruise and those people did not care much about masks and were smoking again in the casino where almost every seat was occupied as soon as the casino opened for the days that we were on board.

Sorry for my rant but I had to get that off my Covid chest . We hope to get on board again soon .

Greetings and best wishes for all our Daily friends , please take care and stay safe !

@HeartgroveIf Southwest cancelled your flight they should rebook you on a flight that works for you with no price increase.  You don’t have to accept the first flight they offer you.  In February, they cancelled our flight home and rebooked us on a 6 am flight ( before the ship arrived). The noon flight was $600 more than the flight we originally booked but when I called they put us on it at no additional cost.

Good morning from Durango. Another sunny day and it looks like it may continue for awhile. We will get that shelter roof done yet. As for today, I am ending my self isolation with a trip to the bank to deposit condo checks and then a short trip to the grocery store.... all fully masked.

I still have several of my childhood books..... worn and tattered though they be. Ate many P&J sandwiches while I was doing field archaeology. Don't eat them so much any more. I am envious of those cruising, but the covid situation does give me pause. Glad I have nothing scheduled too soon.

Best wishes to all. Jacqui.... I am so sorry you have to continue to fight with the medicals for Jose. Sometimes I think they just sort of let long time patients begin to slide.

Greetings from Key West. Out and about. DW still in quarantine until tomorrow and she can go home. Bummer. I still tire easily and with all the laying around and sitting this week my lower back is acting up.

Great meal in Pinnacle night. A perfect NY Strip on a plate!

Thanks Rich. Will read all later.

Good morning all!

We have lots of children's books here for the grandsons and I still have a few old tattered ones from my childhood.  In our house PBJ is always with jam or preserves, never jelly. We love to DIY  in ports, but around the house we leave the bigger jobs to the professionals.

I love Fettuccine Alfredo, but only as a small side dish, too many carbs for a plate-full. Will pass on the drink and red wine, have never been to the port. I look forward to any photos!

Today DH has training for his part-time work with the Mariners. He's been doing this for decades now, I keep asking him how old he'll get before he stops.  But he loves it....  I will be spending the day getting food and the house ready for a family dinner tomorrow.  We're having an early birthday celebration for DS.  His birthday is actually the 11th, but DD and family are leaving on the 6th for Hawaii so we're doing it early.  This will be the first birthday with him since he moved out of state 25 years ago 🙂

Jacqui @kazuprayers for your strength as you continue advocating for Jose's care.

Jack @Heartgroveprayers that the results of your dear sister's scan shows that the new treatment is helping.  I'm so sorry to hear about the airline fiasco resulting in your having to cancel your cruise.  And at the last minute 😞

Tony @sailingdutchyI agree with you re dropping mask mandates. It seems like the numbers mushroomed after that.

I'm curious (and this question is for anyone) -- you mentioned before that you're able to take walks and go to stores while in quarantine -- has it always been that way?   I'm probably not remembering correctly, but I thought that people in the past had to stay inside their hotel room (?)

Prayers for everyone on the care list and cheers to all who are celebrating!

It was not a question of cost. Wait time to speak to an agent at 6:00 AM was 120 minutes. That was two hours to attempt other plans. Looking at "flightradar24" for other city pairs it seems that SWA needed to shift a number of airplane locations. Our flight is not the only one cancelled in that part of the country. It seems to have started with this plane yesterday evening with the flight LGA to Tampa being three hours late. Our plane was starting its day in Tampa to Hartford then down to Baltimore for our flight to FLL then on to ATL. Somehow our segment from Baltimore is now going to Ft. Myers instead of FLL. Thus our cancelled flight.

I suppose we could have driven 3-1/2 hours to present ourselves at the SWA counter to see how they get us there before the ship sails.
