Thursday is Nieuw Amsterdam's last visit to FLL this season - she will not be back until October 25.  She is headed off on a 19/24-day Panama Canal repositioning cruise and will be starting her Alaska season on May 1.  She is due to be at pier 26 (Captain's Choice) from 7 am to 4 pm.  She is the only cruise ship in port.

Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver itinerary offers many good ports.  But, I lack understanding as to why Catalina Island is a better port than a stop at San Francisco.

Heard a pretty loud crack of thunder a few minutes ago.

In No FL we've been done with the rain since about noon. With the storm's SW-NE slant - it should be in this area now - if the whole state is affected.

 

The rains were spotty but sometimes hard. May the ship leave in one of the dry portions.

This is probably heavy loading day for the ship since she leaves for the West Coast and the Alaska cruise season.  The rain that Fort Lauderdale (with thunderstorms) slows the loading process significantly.  The afternoon that the Amsterdam was due to sail at 4:00 P. M. for my world cruise did not sail until just before 8:00 P. M. because of a rainy, stormy afternoon that slowed the loading of supplies.  As I was walking to second sitting dinner, I watched as we started departing from Pier 26.
