First of all, like everyone here my heart is breaking right now for Jacqui @kazu.  Such very sad news. I can't even imagine. Jacqui, sending love, (((hugs))), and prayers your way.

Interesting collection of days...being naturally curly, my hair will do what it wants no matter what. Some mornings are quite comical.  People say that's a blessing, but it sometimes can be a curse too 😉  I like jazz, and I expect honesty from all I know.

Have never been to China, no plans to go...I would pick the Honey Lime Salsa Verde recipe and use it for tacos or fajitas.  Tonight will be stuffed peppers though.

Yesterday DH and I spent the afternoon clearing/cleaning out the garage in preparation for the A/C people coming on Monday.  He made a trip to the hazardous waste collection site, and I got the whole garage cleaned with the shop vac.  Felt good!  I even had time for a little gardening "to commune with nature" so it was a good day.  Today is raining this morning, but the afternoon promises to be a nice one.

Today’s quote has never been more applicable.  I got a call late last night from a physician at the hospital who knows Jose (never a good thing when they call late at night).

Jose is being given morphine to try to handle the pain and being referred to palliative care for his final days.

It looks very much like despite all the valiant attempts, for the 3rd time in 3 months, they will fail.  I was told to prepare for the worst.  They do not think he has long 😢 💔

Jacqui.... Those late night calls are the worst, and I am so very sorry to hear this. All my most positive thoughts and best wishes  to you both.

@kazu  Jacqui, my heart is also breaking for you and Jose.  DH and I are sending positive thoughts that Jose can be made comfortable and that you have the support you need as you both face the future.  I am thankful that Jose is now in such a caring and supportive unit.

Please take care of yourself and Jose and know that all of us on the Daily are here when you need us and when you feel able to join us.  We know that right now Jose is your priority.

Hugs,

Lenda

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

Good days. I appreciate nice hairstyles. I'm a jazz fan, although not the "far out" stuff that has no discernable melody. We should all try to be as honest as we can. Very true quote.

I like the meal. Pass on the drink.

I have been to Beijing on a river cruise in China, but flew into that city.

It's a very nice sunny day here, with the temp going to 66F. The best laid plans ... I wanted to mow the lawn later, but woke up with the beginnings of an eye flare. I started hourly drops right away, but I have redness and light sensitivity. We're going to have storms tomorrow (along with our city Marathon race), so I'd like to get the lawn done. I suppose if it's not much better in a few hours, I could put on an eye patch and then sunglasses over that. Aye matey!

@kazu I am so sad to hear your update about Jose. My heart aches for you. Prayers for Jose and you.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad you got to see the Cathedral. And it will help to keep resting and eating as much as you can tolerate.

@mamaofami It's good that Sam is getting out with the help of the new aide.

@1ANGELCAT Sorry to hear your church is closing; it's happened a lot around here, big church buildings with dwindling parishioners just can't afford the costs. Lots of consolidations, especially in the Catholic churches. I hear you on medication costs.

@rsldonk Bon Voyage!

Prayers for the Care List and Ukraine. Stay safe everyone.

Tomorrow is going to be a stressful day, after almost 108 years my church is closing our doors 💔🙏RIP Reading Moravian.

Will the ministries (food pantry and home-cooked meals) continue? What is happening with the partnership with the Lititz Moravian Congregation?

Are the Reading Moravian members moving together to another congregation, or just on their own?

Was/is Reading Moravian closely aligned with any other churches in Reading?

Sorry, if these questions are too painful.

Vanessa, nice photos!  Thanks for posting them.  Hope your eye problem won't stop you today from what you want to get done.  I'm having the stupid flashing objects problem this morning - several times!  Nothing near as bad as your issue.

Jacqui, I am so sorry to hear this.  However, what you have been describing lately has not sounded good and I am really not surprised.

You and Jose are both in my prayers.  I pray that his last days are peaceful and pain free.

God bless.

Good morning from a mostly sunny and windy central Texas.  We had a little bit of rain over night, but not enough to really measure.

Hairstyle appreciation day reminded me I need to make an appointment to get a haircut.  As far as my hair style, it looks okay if I let my hair do what it wants to do.  Jazz is not my favorite form of music, but it is not bad.  Honesty is appreciated, but sadly not practiced as much as it should be.

The quote of the day is too true, and we need to embrace what we have at the time we have it.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds like one I would like if the price is right.

We have been to Tianjin and Beijing three times.  The first time was on the Volendam on the Asia Pacific Explorer Cruise (or as it was also called, the APEC cruise).   The second in 2005, we spent an afternoon and night at the end of a cruise before flying home the next day.  In 2018, we were in Tianjin on Coral Princess, and we took the train into Beijing.  I'll repost my pictures later.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I'm glad you and Jim made it to see the Cathedral.

@mamaofami  Carol, that is good news that Sam is getting out everyday, and it sounds like the aide is a good fit.

@1ANGELCAT  I'm sorry that after 108 years, your church is having to close.

@rsldonk  🍾 BON VOYAGE 🥂

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I hope the eyedrops work quickly and your eye is better soon.

Just waking up here. Jacqui so sorry to hear about Jose’s condition. May God be with you during this difficult and sad time.

It’s moving day. Taking the short flight over to Kauai. Usually a long day with shopping, the villa is not usually ready to four PM and then there is unpacking. Then 3 weeks in one of our favorite places on earth.

Packing here then off to airport. Enjoy your weekend. Aloha!

These pictures are from our 2018 Coral Princess Cruise, and they are a little different from most pictures of Beijing, as we did not take a tour this time.  We took the shuttle from the port to the shopping center in western Tianjin.  From there, we took an hour long ride on a local train to the Tianjin train station, where we caught the high speed train to Beijing.  Once there, we took their metro to Tiananmen Square.

The Chinese were celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Peoples Republic of China.  The square was blocked off except for one checkpoint.  Your had to show picture id and have your bags searched.  Fortunately, our passports worked.

The first two pictures are west Tianjin and the mall.

These next pictures are the high speed train.  DH used an app on his phone to check the speed.  The train actually reached 220 mph, but I didn't get a picture of DH's phone then; still, 218mph is impressive too.  One of our tablemates was a retired freight train engineer in the US, and he would not even consider taking this train.  We guessed it was his experience with the trains and tracks in the US.

The next two are buildings opposite Tiananmen Square at the far end from the Forbidden City.  One seemed to be an old fort and the second one is the train museum.  Unfortunately we did not have time to check it out.  Maybe on the next visit.

These are a couple of the special decorations in Tiananmen Square for the celebration.

I just found this picture in another post on March 28, 2018.  DH found on a video of his phone that showed our speed on the train to Beijing reaching 220 mph.  The ride was extremely smooth and it did not seem like we were going that fast.

Good morning.  I haven't been on for a while and have missed all the news.

Jacqui, I was so sorry to read your post.  Sending prayers for you and Jose.  May God be with you during this time.  You can lean on Him.

Will read more of the posts later.  Headed to the airport to get DH.  He has been in Chile for a week on business.  First time in 3 years.  Been a good trip for him and I am so happy he was able to get there and back safely.

Prayers to all on the care list.  Cheers to those celebrating.

Stay well and safe everyone.

In 2002, the Volendam was in port for two days.  The first day, we took a tour to the Great Wall, and the second a tour to Beijing.  My pictures of the Great Wall and the Forbidden City are very similar to those that were posted in March and today.  Most of my pictures the second day were taken in the Forbidden City, but here are some from the area around the hotel where we had lunch.  It was just down the street from the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

This is looking down a main road from the front of the hotel where we had lunch and away from Tiananmen Square.

This little park was back from the street and between the hotel and the Forbidden City.

The Temple of Heaven was our last stop in Beijing.  It looked just like the one in Epcot in Disney World.  😀

@StLouisCruisers  The port of Xingang and the port of Tianjin are the same, while Tianjin is also the name of the town for the port.  It is the largest man-made port in China, and had changed greatly between 2002 and 2018.  The port is near west Tianjin, while the main town is about an hour by local train from the port.
