Good morning, Friends. Thank you for the Daily, the Lists and the Recipes.

I feel for missing children and their families; always so happy to hear when they are found safe. I used to brown bag it most of the time in my school and working years. Thank you to @grapau27 for the explanation of Towel Day.

Pride and Prejudice is a favorite of mine. I would give the meal a try...I think roasting the cauliflower would be best.

My heart aches for the families of the lost in yesterday's shooting. This horrific act has consumed my thoughts.

Thinking of each of you, but difficult to write much else at the moment. Maybe I'll take a walk on the beach to reflect and try to clear my mind.

🙏 and 🎉 for those on our lists.

Good morning from a cloudy, windy central Texas.  We had some wild thunder and lightning last night (which I slept through), and best of al we got about 9/10 inch of much needed rain.

I don't know how parents of missing children handle it, especially the not knowing.  I brown bagged it during my working years.  @grapau27  Graham, thank you for the explanation of towel day.  Our older DD would have known what it was as she read A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy many times.

I'm not sure I agree with the Jane Austen quote in most cases.

We'll pass on the meal, drink and wine.

We have been to Oslo several times, and I'll look for my pictures when I get back from my errand.

@cat shepard  Ann, enjoy your grand nephew's 8th grade graduation.

@kazu  Congratulations on getting your booster.  I hope the bank problem is resolved by the time you are home.

@mamaofami  Carol, your grandson is to be congratulated on making the finals in the coding competition and for his patent.  I know you and Sam are proud grandparents.

@ottahand7  Glad you made it to the cabin safely and I hope all the problems are easily solved.

@kochleffel  Thank you for your pictures of your trip and the cats.

When I posted the memes yesterday with the comment that I thought we could all use a laugh, I had not heard about the horrible shooting in Uvalde.  If I had, I would not have posted the memes.  I apologize to anyone who was offended and thought I was making light of the tragedy.  Reading the Daily yesterday, it seemed to me that many of us were a little down, and my only thought was to cheer us up.

No worries Lenda - at least not as far as I am concerned.  I think I can safely say we all know you would never deliberately offend - don’t even give it a second thought.  Your intentions were good and a smile is always a good thing to try to give to someone ♥️

@Seasick Sailorcould you drop me a quick email please?  Something I need to alert you to.  Thank you 🙂

Today's alternative menu selection is  Caesar Salad, Petite Fillet, Mac & Cheese, and Red Velvet Cake as served on Adventure of the Sea's Chops Grill (think Pinnacle Grill on a BHB) May 24, 2022:

Laughter and grief are closely wed. When we are on the edges of our emotional spectrum, laughter can be a wonderful release. Thank you for "reading the room" yesterday and serving us with your heart for cheer.

I meant to post yesterday about my wonderful brother and DH’s two great brothers, and some pretty good brother-in-laws but the Texas news took the wind out of my sails. Today, we continue our drive to Washington, thankful for last night’s warm welcome in Bakersfield, Taco Tuesday at a restaurant with multiple sports screens (yay, Steve Kerr!), good restaurant and hotel staff, satisfying chain hotel breakfast. Thankful for the freedom to travel.

Good morning to all. Sunny and dry here and we have another fire. It is on the western side of town and right now is listed at 105 acres. Some of the aerial resources from other fire were diverted to us and came in late yesterday afternoon and they seem to be getting a handle on it. Two subdivisions have been put on pre-evacuation notice, but so far no evacuations or loss of structures. Fingers crossed.... winds are supposed to be moderate today.

Like others, I am just stunned and distressed at the news out of Texas. How long will this go on?

Have to head out to the shelter.... hopefully this day will be quiet. Contractors are not here to work on my kitchen and I am getting really tired of climbing over boxes and eating out, but it could be so very much worse.

Later, everyone. Take care.

Good morning, Dailyites.  I'm thinking of, and praying for, those 19 families (so far) which have lost their children, also those injured.  I wonder if this will make a difference.  On the news last night the announcer said we know school shootings  by name now, as @mamaofamisaid, "Columbine", "Sandy Hook", now "Uvalde".  A sad commentary.

Cheers to those cruising or going to cruise - I am envious, but in a little over a month we will be leaving for Europe.  We got our second boosters, just have to check what we have to prove to get into England, and then the EU.  We have appointments to get tested at Heathrow 3 days before the cruise, I wish they still tested at the cruise port, that worked so well in Venice last October.

Pat's second favourite food (after a real Irish fry-up), is cauliflower cheese, so today's recipes sound like a great thing to try.  I would even cut up the stem to add to it; it is always avoided when I make the whole thing.   Or maybe add some broccoli to it as well.  Cauliflower seems now to be a very versatile vegetable, they make pizza crusts with it, and the cauliflower "risotto" on the ships is excellent.

Thanks to all for posting.  Good luck with your booster, Jacqui,  @kazu .

Good Afternoon All, thanks for the daily report.  Today’s meal suggestion sounds especially after reviewing @dfish pictures and recipes.  I’m sure I’d enjoy it very much.  When going into work I typically pack my lunch, leftovers being my favorite.  That certainly saves some money for cruises.
Yesterday we had a plumber in to inspect a leak on our tankless water heater.  It’s the pressure release valve.  The part is on back order for at least a month.  No danger as it only leaks when the pressure gets high.  A bucket is under the valve.

Today JetBlue changed our flight times for our November cruise.  The first has us leaving 90 minutes earlier, it’s the first flight out so it should be good.  The return flight is now 45 minutes earlier and departs at 11:15.  I’m good with that change so long as the ship arrives on schedule.

Mona’s meme.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily and to all contributors.

Missing children are such a sad situation. I used to brown bag lunch before I retired. I had to look up towel day; haven't read or watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As much as I love Jane Austen, I disagree with the quote.

I like the meal since it's lower carb. Pass on the drink and wine.

I haven't been to Oslo. Thanks for any pictures.

It's partly sunny here today and to go up to 70. I'm waiting to hear that my friend in the UK is out of surgery. I've sent off a message to Rheumatology. I can barely get out of bed in the morning due to pain in the left high hip area and thigh. The muscles are all tender to the touch. Once I move for a bit it improves, until I need to do stairs.

@kazu I usually don't plant until Memorial Day for risk of frost, but put my tomato plants in this past weekend. Hoping the bank issue is solved quickly and your booster shot goes well.

@marshhawk Wow, lots going on with your work.

@mamaofami Bummer on all the technology issues. Congrats to your grandson on being in the coding contest and his app.

@Cruzin Terri Good to hear that Jim's surgery went well and the doctor thinks he got all the skin cancer.

@ottahand7 I hope the issues at the cabin are ironed out soon.

@kochleffel Thanks for the pictures.

@Quartzsite Cruiser I don't think anyone was offended by the memes. I was late in finding out about the tragedy as I didn't have the tv or radio on.

@durangoscots Sorry to hear about the nearby fire. Hopefully it's contained and extinguished without loss of life.

Prayers for the Care List. Especially Ukraine and the shattered families due to the Texas massacre. This type of tragedy happens mainly in the US; we need action, not more thoughts and prayers (although prayers are never amiss).

Stay safe everyone.

Good morning here still.  A bit drizzly but suppose to be warmer.

I think missing children's day should be everyday.  I can't imagine the heartache of losing a child  and am praying for all those people in Texas involved in the school shooting.  Thank you , Roy for adding them to our care list.

We had our granddaughter before school this morning and will pick her up as it is early release for her today.  I will make sure she gets to her piano lessons this afternoon.  The grandson shows up at 2:30 after school to tell me all about his day and practice his trumpet.  We cherish our time with them.

We should be in Oslo in a few weeks as we board the NS on June 10.  I am starting to gather things to take.  Weather will be all over the place on this cruise.  But that is what layering is all about.

Stay well and safe everyone.  Prayers to all and many cheers to those celebrating.

Good afternoon from a now sunny but still cool central Texas.  Our weather this week has been more like early spring in April, but we'll be in the 90s for the Memorial Day Weekend.

I spent part of the morning trying to straighten out a mess with two packages from Amazon.  They want us to return the lawn mower that was never delivered since they are sending a replacement.  UPS came by last night to pick the return up, but of course there was nothing to return.  We'll see what happens next. Another package was picked up Monday, but Amazon thinks we have not shipped it.  The tracking number says it is no in Nashville on the way to Lexington, KY.  We'll see what happens when the package arrives at Amazson.

Thank you to @kazu Jacqui, @HAL4NOW and @JazzyV Vanessa for your kind words about part of my earlier post.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I hope your friend is doing well after her surgery.. I also hope those in Rheumatology have an answer for your hip pain.

@durangoscots  Susan, I hope they get the new fire under control soon.  Stay safe.

@Crazy For Cats  I liked the cat meme today.

This is what I posted on March 5, 2021, from our visits to Oslo.

We have been lucky enough to visit Oslo four times, with three of those times being on the Prinsendam in 2011 (North Cape and Murmansk cruise), 2016 and 2017.  The first time there was on the Marco Polo on a North Cape cruise.

Of course, we visited all the major highlights, but the last time, we took the tram out to a part of town that is off the beaten path.  It was interesting to see areas without the tourists (except us) and how the locals lived.  I tried to find some pictures that showed some places other than the main tourist places, but included some well known sites.

The first two are the Radhuset where the Nobel Peace prize is awarded, and the part of hall where the ceremony is held.

This one is a view of the Vigeland park from the top.

IMG_5898.thumb.JPG.aede0c6e3be4052dde8f77b532186f7b.JPG

The next two are from the Viking Ship Museum and the Fram Museum.  The Fram was the ship that Roald Amundsen sailed to Antarctica on his exploration to the South Pole.  In the same area as these museums are the Kon Tiki Museum and the Norsk Maritimt Museum, which was very interesting.

These next to are for those who like to stroll through food markets and flower markets.  They were set up in a open area in front of the Oslo Cathedral.

We were lucky enough to be able to "crash" a tour of the auditorium in the Opera House, but the pictures are not as good as I'd like because of the lighting.  Of course we also walked on the roof.

I'll leave you with an overview of Oslo, from across the bay at the museum area.  The highlight of the picture is the blue hulled beauty that brought us to this fabulous city.

A few days ago, @StLouisCruisers Sandi, said if I came across her pictures of the port of the day, I could repost them.   So this is what she posted on March5, 2021, about Oslo.  She had many of the same pictures I had, so I only posted a few different ones.

Every day we can now look forward to our port of the day and the memories it brings back to us.  Today's port of Oslo is a good one.  We saw it twice on the Emerald Princess in 2011 on back to back cruises.  Then twice on Prinsendam in 2016 and 2017.  So much to see there!  On our early visit we walked from the ship to Vigeland Sculpture park.  Everyone should see that.  On one of our visits we walked to the Opera House and walked on the sloping roof.  On another visit we walked to 5 Sophies Gate to find Harry Hole's apartment in the Jo Nesbo books.  Apparently a lot of people do this because on one corner a local saw us and pointed the correct direction to head, without even asking us for sure what we were looking for.  DH is a big fan of the Jo Nesbo books.

You dock next to the Akershus Fortress so it has to be one of the best places to dock in all our cruises.  Here it is:

It's right across the street from your ship.  Amazing!

I had another photo I wanted to share with you but I can't find it.  It's in one of the cruise photo books I make, so it has to be here somewhere.  If I find it I will share later.

Good morning and thanks all!  Missing children is one of the hardest things to bear, my secretary lost her son and he still has not been found and it’s been over ten years.  My heart goes out to all parents who have lost a child.
@Quartzsite CruiserLenda, I know you would never intentionally offend,  you are always so kind and considerate in your posts.  Thank you for your photos.  We enjoyed Oslo years ago.  Not sure if I can find any photos.   We really remember Vigeland park, particularly the sculpture of the angry child who they took the candy from.

Thank you @bennybear for you nice comment.

I think I found Sandi's missing picture.

Ah, found it.  It hadn't been uploaded to Shutterfly where I store photos I use in my photo books.

This little dog was waiting outside this bakery for his owner.  Right on the door is a sticker saying no dogs allowed.  I hope his owner brought him out a treat for being so patient.  Cute!enhance

I have a question.  What is ArriveCan and Verifly?  They are apps and we have a flip phone.

ArriveCan is what you need to enter Canada - you need it if you are flying in or arriving on a ship, I believe.  If you have an Ipad or even a laptop, I believe you can complete it.  You DO have to do it.  Anything with app capacity can do it.

Verifly is a method to make your boarding faster on board and even on planes.  It will save a lot of time boarding 😉

You don't really need an app for ArriveCan.  You can do it as a web site as well when it is all done you will get an email with the authorization codes.  It's a bit of an extended process that you will need to follow.  The detailed login link is on the last page of the turnover day letter I posted on my live thread.  Once you set up the account you can load your vax details immediately but can only post your entry details about 3 days before your cruise or flight.

My experience with Verifly is very poor.  It's optional if you're boarding a HAL ship but I don't know what to tell you if you need to fly to your cruise.
