COVID is there ! They should test all when people get off . 1723 people on board . We have mild symptoms wouldn’t have checked but all the coughing an sneezing on board we did .  Both are positive. And In Quarantine I’m sure lots people don’t test and are spreading it . Not a good time or cruise . Celebrity filled the ship to soon.

We are going on a Royal cruise today!  I will wear a mask indoors, avoid elevators or wait for more empty one's.  Still important to follow precautions.  No shore x's for me- with crowded groups.  this will be a relaxing cruise-  We are fully vaccinated and boosted and my DH did have a strain of covid a few months ago- but you never can be too careful.

Did you fly home? Could you have caught it in the airport or on a plane? Did you do any shore excursions? Could you have caught it on shore?

I’m not sure it would be physically possible to test 1700 people as they get off the ship, at least not in a timely enough fashion for people to catch their flights, etc., or for the new cruisers to embark.

The terms and conditions do require anyone that develops symptoms within 14 days of disembarking to notify them.

Yikes….scheduled to be on the Summit in two weeks.   Hope all the sick crew will have recovered Lol.   I am packing meds just in case though.

Why are you so sure it is the crew that has covid?  I was on a B2B on the Summit recently and 100% of the crew tested negative on both cruises.

1723 people tested negative 48 hrs before boarding. Did the crew test 48 hrs before we boarded? The only thing I know is 1723 people tested negative to get on board . Mid cruise lots of coughing, hacking and sneezing. I have mild symptoms tested only because of being on the ship ,24 hrs post cruise and I’m positive and quarantining 5 days.

Thanks for updating us. Hope you feel better soon. Get paxlovid if you can. We just tested positive 10 days before our cruise next week so were able to get a 100% refund although we are still waiting on that. I do believe the CDC should mandate that all cruise passengers take a covid test before leaving the ship. BTW, I was double boosted & wore an N95 mask anytime inside & have no idea how I got it.

It takes 15 minutes to take a covid test. Everyone should have to take one in their cabin & show upon disembarking. The CDC should mandate this bur I don't think they will. Now people are returning home & spreading covid. We will not book another cruise until covid is under control more. & if that's never, ok with us now.

The majority of whom will have spent the previous 24-48 hours flying, standing around in airports and otherwise exposing themselves to infection risks which then take a few days to develop into an actual infection...

Testing the day of or the day before gives a totally false perspective on the actual status of those boarding.

The crew on the other-hand have strong motivations to maintain their health and do not tend to go ashore or run the risks associated with long distance travel once they are onboard.

If the crew are sick it is going to be the cruisers who infected then for the most part sadly...

We cruise on the summit next week. Going with the expectation of being exposed to Covid and likely getting it. So much time spent eating in the MDR etc…2x boosted, always wear our masks indoors…but c’mon, a full cruise ship? This variant is so contagious…not even confidant of testing negative to get on the ship! 😬

I am very sorry that this was your experience when you were hoping for so much better.

You mention that you wore your mask "only when required", so we can assume that it was off more than on?  I am not trying to be sarcastic, I am only looking for more clarification.  I know that tone doesn't come across on posting so please don't take this in any other form than just trying to get information.

Also, even though a person may test negative, as you said regarding the passengers boarding on the 1st day, there may still be some (or many) who are actually positive but the viral load is not strong enough to come through at that moment when the testing is performed.  The virus may also be incubating and come forth later on.  It is a difficult time for all.

Prefer cruises that test at the dock on embarkation day.  There are so many cases now.  Unless you stay home completely, you may come into contact with Covid.  People who are fully vaxed and bolstered, wear masks, wash hands, sanitize, etc. are still getting Covid.  Celebrity should cut capacity. I am sailing next week.   The cruise lines that test frequently onboard have high number of cases. Viking has high number of cases. They test everyone daily. Those that don’t have lower number of cases. Celebrity seems to avoid testing. That is irresponsible to guests who are expecting safety on the ship.  It also is the reason why our Bermuda cruise had its itinerary changed to avoid testing 2 days before getting to Bermuda. Instead, everything has been turned upside down.  We will be tendering 2 of the days.  If tenders are packed as you state, we will probably be exposed.  May just stay on the ship.  This cruise could be a huge mistake. I am nervous after reading your comments.  This is not the vacation that I imagined.

From what I have heard many ships are having the same issue.

It's just a good time to cancel right now & get the FCC. I have COVID  now, fully boosted & always wear N95 masks so where did I get it? I took paxlovid.  11 days after getting it, i still am tired, have slight cough & feel run down. Now is the time to stay vigilant. If we had not gotten covid, we were going to cancel our cruise due to the increased cases. I don't feel cruising is safe right now. The cruise lines want our money but are not concerned with our safety. Crowded unmasked tenders is a sure way to make covid a superspreader event on board. The cruise ships should be flashing red & be shut down now. But there is no will power to do this. The CDC reported yesterday that 20% of covid patients will gey long haul covid. That is scary high & a good reason not to cruise right now.

With respect, that is an unreasonable expectation if you choose to cruise at this time.

We all need to accept that covid is endemic, and will be present onboard, when we go ashore and when we travel to/from the ports, and thus set our expectations and behaviour accordingly.

It's possible and extremely likely that people who boarded the ship and tested negative were positive.

Even if you took the test at the dock before boarding and 100% tested negative, there would still be people infected.

Covid infection rates are up in many places in the US and worldwide.

Many people have no symptoms.

Tests are not 100% reliable and yield false positives and negatives.

Masks are not 100% effective at preventing spread.

People aren't masking when they eat or drink and will spread it.

Not to mention other locations people can get infected before and after such as airplanes, airports, trains, taxis, etc. The list goes on and on.

The expectation that some people have that if we all just do A, B and C no one will get it is not reasonable.

Even if 10% of the passengers get it that is still 90% that aren't. The ship infection rate is probably very similar to many cities and towns in the world.

We need to stop blaming, criticizing and finger pointing at others and saying if they did this, or didn't do that we'd be safe.

If someone decides to cruise they are making a choice. The choice comes with risks.

A lot of those people tested negative then a day or so later went  to a airport, sat in a crowded terminal , then spent 1-6 hours  on a most likely full plane, with most people not wearing masks.  If some flew in the night before then add in the hotel shuttle to the pier, restaurant dinner.  Lots of opportunity for passengers to unknowingly ring it on the ship.

This is right, at some point we'll have to stop counting cases and making a big deal over it. I cruise next month and just hope I test negative before boarding. As with everything I read on CC I take it with a grain of salt, many posters here are some of the loudest voices, there are tons of other people out there cruising and having a great time without worry.
