Cabin doors

Do cabin doors open out or in? Also does the door handle move up and down or is it static? Just trying to figure a few safety features out thanks.

All cabin doors open in, and the door handles move down regardless of ship..

No they don't.

As an example, Brilliance doors open in, Allure doors open out.

I have never seen cabin doors that open out into the hallway. That sounds like it would cause issues.

Actually I think it's the older style (opening inward) that had the potential to cause issues, and that's why the relatively newer ships' doors open out into the hallway.  As an example, here's a tour of an Odyssey cabin.  Check at around 35 seconds:

I'm guessing it was changed because of a concern with fire or water.  Maybe @chengkp75 can shed some light on it.

Have been on Allure in every category from Balcony to CLS, and all of the cabin doors open in. A door that opens out into the passageway would present a significant safety hazard, and if you inadvertently had the balcony door open, the door would be ripped out of your hands if you tried to open it.

In all of the Allure videos below, the door opens out into the hallway.  I guess it works differently for different rooms.

On Oasis class and Quantum class the doors are recessed from the hallway into an alcove

As mentioned above, it varies by ship but it's definitely not ALL doors open inward. Pretty sure I saw both types on Harmony recently.

JS, GS, CLS all open inward on Oasis class ships. Having never sailed in any category other than these on these ships our experience with doors may be different from those who sail in other categories..

Yup.  Those in insets open out.  Suites on same floor open in.

Interesting, as our Odyssey balcony cabin door opened in.

I think we've determined that some ships have them doing both, although we're not certain why.

One possible reason I saw was that they don't get in the way of the doors that connect connecting cabins, which can be near the entrance to the cabins.

Deck 13.

We were on Deck 9 on the Odyssey and it opened out...took us a couple of days to get used to it.

* See you on the Voyager .

We will be the crazy family with the assistance dog. 😃

So door could open in or out but door handles definitely move down? That's a help thanks.

Recently on Harmony our GS cabin door opened out and the GS two bdrm next door to us that our son was in opened in. It seemed cabins doors that had a bit recess opened outward. This was hard getting used to and something you had to watch for as you walked down the hallway.

Door handles on both definitely moved downward to open.

I'm curious...does the assistance dog help to open the door somehow?
