Certificate of Recovery Questions

So my entire family tested positive about 30 days out from our sailing. Does it make sense to just get a certificate of recovery for all 4 of us (including 2 unvaccinated kids) and not even worry about testing? Anyone have any experience using a COR? Ever any problems from port agents?

Highly unlikely anyone would still be positive in 28 days.  COR requires each person to have a positive  PCR and doctor letter saying you have recovered.   COR exempts vaxed from precruise test but don't believe it exempts unvaxed.  If kids need to be tested anyway, a COR is useless.

 

So if you want to get PCR tests now you can, but why bother?

Well, I already have positive PCR tests for all of us and appointments lined up to get a COR for each of us, so that's not the concern.

 

The Royal policy does not mention vaccinated status anywhere with regard to being exempt from pre-cruise testing with a COR. Did you see that someplace?

It's in the FAQ, but only applies to vaxed guests - i.e. if you're vaxed and if you have a positive PCR test + COR, you don't have to test for 90 days.

As far as I can tell, the FAQ does not say that it applies only to vaxed guests. Can you show me where it does?

It doesn't but the testing requirement for unvax sorta trumps the testing exemption with the COR. You can always chance trying to board with a COR for an unvax guest.

I appreciate the response, but I don't know that it's correct. Wouldn't make sense, because the whole point of the COR is to excuse lingering positives from previous infection, and I'd be more concerned about lingering positives on a NAAT. I've asked Royal, so I'll see if I even get a response, but I don't see anything in the FAQ that limits the exception to pre-cruise testing.

 

In any case, I may have everyone test again precruise anyway, and if it's negative I won't have to worry about the COR.

Thanks. I've seen that FAQ and it doesn't specifically mention that unvaccinated guests are exempt from testing with a COR but, because it doesn't separate the groups out, I take that to mean that all guests with a COR are exempt, regardless of vaccination status.  I just kind of wish it spelled it out to avoid any possible misunderstandings at embarkation.

 

Has anyone been in this situation and can confirm that a COR is accepted for unvaccinated children?

Yes all guests are exempt from testing if they have a positive PCR test more than 10 days old and a positive COR.  That is the point of the positive test and the COR as you can continue to test positive for a period after.  

 

The only qualifier is that unvaccinated guests would have had to been eligible to sail unvaccinated anyway...meaning children.  An unvaccinated adult cannot use a positive PCR test and a COR to get around the vaccination requirements.

I agree, but ours is very fickle. We can’t even get through to the office to ask a question without first being interrogated by the main office. We are going to drive to the office and ask. I was hoping for an online place to do it like we do for testing.

Definitely get a COR for the unvaccinated kids. I'm not sure if COR excuses from testing but PCR can show positive for months. Also - COR should exclude them from boarding day and last day testing.

I guess try a walk in clinic.  Since it has to be done by a Dr I am not sure that you will find an on line option since they would be be having to state that you are symptom free without examining or seeing you in person.

We just left our primary’s office and as I suspected he won’t do it. So we’ll try minute clinic.

Can't vouch for the full process because I haven't had the appointment yet, but I made the appointment on QuickMD and it was very straightforward.

I used MDAnywhere last week.  VERY easy.  We each had our COR within the hour.  They even ask you if you need it for a cruise so the information on the letter is what the cruise lines want.

My daughter is navigating these waters right now too. Entire family positive last weekend, we have a cruise on 8/14. Two vaccinated adults, one vaccinated child, one not-fully-vaccinated child. 
 

At this point, the plan is to get the COR for the not-fully vaccinated child, and maybe everyone. Hope is that the COR eliminates the at-the-pier test. She already made an appointment for the PCR test three days prior, which will most likely be positive. But, she will have the COR. 
 

For the other three, where two-day prior antigen tests are required, the COR may not be necessary but can provide insurance, I guess. Their antigen tests should be negative by then as it will be 21 days after symptom onset. 
 

Using the COR will mean the youngest cannot disembark in Jamaica or Labadee. That’s another reason we would like to not have to use a COR for the other three. 
 

Did you ever get a response from Royal?
