Onboard Product Self-Promotion

A bit of a random question this one!

If you are a fare paying passenger and director of your own company, that has a fashion based product, are you allowed to self-promote it on board? I’m thinking like, posting flyers, or similar,  at cabins? May be advertising a website and/or arranging a gathering in a public space, for example?

Would anyone know if this is allowed?

I have to bet that you knew the answer already before you posted this, but if you truly did not, wow just wow

Next thing you know is that they will be demanding that  their immensely talented daughter be able to give a solo flute and interpretative dance concert in the atrium.

Absolutely not.  Even trip leaders (like quilting groups) that reserve meeting space on board are not allowed to advertise or sell anything.

I don't even want the Park West art ad inserts in my ship's daily.  So you can imagine how thrilled I would be to have everyone with a business spamming my cabin door daily.  I suspect I'm not alone.  Besides which, it just isn't allowed.

Some of these answers are not fair ( LOL ).

Uum--- I don't think nobody would mind being bombarded with flyers from passengers that are looking to charge their cruise as a Business expense -- So,

Why don't ya bring 40 boxes of pamphlets and try ( ?? ) handing 'em out -- starting with the Captain.

Ya don't wanna waste time stickin 'em on cabin doors, and besides, think of how much scotch tape ya gonna need.

Then , eat/drink as much as you can on the first night , because the next day you will be going home without a key chain you might have won at trivia or mambo on day 3.

I think the above posts captured the essence of what most all think of such. And what the Obvious response from Celebrity would be.

Sounds kind of like years ago when someone you barely knew asked you over for ‘dinner’ and you realized a whole group was invited who had no connection with each other except somehow knowing the person, usually very remotely…….and if you actually attended, spent the evening getting ‘The Pitch’….oh just love and miss the Pyramid Scheme parties!

I would love to set up my own palm readings...(tongue and cheek)

I will say that there was a husband and wife team giving travel information about their own private excursions at seminars onboard. They were two individuals that were sanctioned by Celebrity to take cruisers on excursions, but only benefited themselves for free cruises.  For Celebrity to allow this couple to deal their travel excursion packages was one rason why I almost stopped cruising Celebrity.  We lost $140 from these scammers, as we figured out what they were doing before our excursion.  Yes, I did report them, so shame on Celebrity for allowing these two onboard.  The only information I received was that they were doing this "legally" with Celebrity. Thank goodness, I have not been aware of them doing this on any cruises that I was on for the last 7-8 years.  Whether they are still in operation, I have no idea.  They used to post on roll calls to get groups together...not like cruisers do at all trying to get a group together of 6-8 for a private cruise, but using that same idea.  Celebrity should have never allowed this to happen.

You have to be kidding!! :classic_rolleyes:Thanks for the laugh. The cruise ship isn't a place to advertise your garage/swap meet sale.

Be sure to wear a T-shirt with your company logo and website information in very large print on it so that it can be seen easily videos as you are escorted off the ship 😁😵💫😀

Does that apply to Vloggers as well?

I remember in spring of my senior year of college a friend who graduated in December came back to town and said he would like to take me to dinner because he had heard my dad died 2 weeks before at the age of 53.

The dinner consisted of him trying to push me to buy life insurance now that I knew how suddenly death could arrive.

Asking your fellow cruisers to  put up with solicitations on board is not quite that tacky...but is definitely stretching out to that end of the scale.

View people you meet on a cruise as potential friends, not as captives for your sales presentation.

If I was on a cruise and subjected to marketing of this type--I would express my displeasure with management.

Absolutely not acceptable and if the cruise ship allowed it, I would never sail with them again.

I can't imagine anyone thinking that this is acceptable or allowable.

If I am at a nice resort I don't expect fellow guests to be slipping promotional papers under my door.

Both solicitation and posting or distribution of materials are specifically addressed and prohibited in the Guest Conduct Policy:

Inappropriate or Abusive Behavior Prohibited

Inappropriate or abusive behavior is not permitted. This includes uninvited physical contact; solicitation; harassment; vandalism; theft; violence; use of fake/false identification; underage drinking or providing alcohol to those under the allowed age (see Alcohol section below); possession of illegal substances/items; placing signs, banners, decorations, or other materials anywhere on the exterior of the ship; placing materials on stateroom doors, along corridors, or anywhere else on the interior of the ship without the express permission of ship management; installing, placing, laying or affixing materials anywhere in or on the vessel that may be deemed inappropriate by ship management; and any other illegal or offensive conduct.
