No show upon boarding

Recommended Posts

We will most likely have 1 person in a 2 person room be a no show--we don't want to officially cancel bc the cruise is only 2 weeks away and there is a small chance the person will be able to come very last minute. Just want to be sure I understand what will happen. When the rest of the party (we have 3 rooms booked together, so 5 of us will be checking in together) checks in, if they ask about the 6th person, we just say they are traveling separately? Then after the cruise, any pre-purchased on board purchases (soda package , coco cay beach club, Chops plus 1) will be refunded to the card used for those purchases? Lastly, after the recorded no show, will the single in the room then earn double points?

Thanks!

I would see if they can refund the cruise planner items on board as OBC which you could then use or cash out via the casino

You will also get taxes and fees back for the no show. Yes they should get double points.

Recently DH was a no show. I did not get double points and taxes and port charges for DH were not returned. I called customer service an for 1 1/2 hours tried to resolve. Next cruise I tried to resolve with Loyalty Ambassador. No luck so when I got home I wrote to Michael Bayley who had someone call me to say No double points No charges refunded. So total I spent about 10 hours to address what felt was and error.

But I agree before Covid I have been given double points for this scenario. I offer to give them information on past no-shows, they told me they could check those cruises but double points never should have been given.

Good Luck. Maybe let us know what does happen.

Never heard of port fees and taxes not being refunded.  I have had many clients where this has happened to without issue.  The double points seems to be on what rep you get

Thank you--only thing I am a bit worried about if I bring it to someone's attention on board (to get OBC vs waiting for a refund) is that the remaining person in the room is 2 months shy of 21st birthday and the room is not connected to or across the hall from the rest of us. If I bring it to the attention of guest services on board, might they make the remaining person switch rooms?

You could definitely run into issues whether you go to guest services or not.

Very strange experience, sorry that happened to you.  I can't speak to the double points from a first hand experience but just repeated what I thought was common from reading this board.  However, December 2021 on Liberty our third person was a no show.  Taxes and fess were refunded to the CC before the cruise ended.

Do you think I'd be better off having myself or Dh moved to his room and then just sleep as we would? Not sure if that would mess up pre-booked purchases or original fares? My hope was that if the 2nd person didnt arrive, DS could just tell room steward he's now a party of one and that would be that. Any advice you'd give? This was super unexpected and we're trying to figure out what to do. Thanks!

I got dbl points no problem for Indy. Not like they do me any good, though

Fees refunded promptly as well.

Changing people in rooms can be done without changing the fare but it could seriously screw up the cruise planner purchases.

I would be up front on board and go to guests services and offer to have an adult switch rooms with them then.  easier for them to deal with it on bard than from Miami beforehand

I had this happen to a friend.  he did not get double points because of the no show.  He did get the refund of the fees though.

I'd go another round with RCCL.  I thought all port fees and taxes were considered cash paid by the passenger, and therefore legally had to be refunded.

My only guess now would be they have a new policy that the single left in the cabin requires a repricing, or forfeit port taxes/fees for the 2nd (no show) passenger.

Do not tell in advance. Notify at guest services once you are onboard. The person without the roommate will get double points[emoji16]. This has been advised by many with experience. Plus I actually got someone at Royal to tell me this is the best thing to do especially since the cruise is paid in full

My guest will b a no show…who do I tell or do I not tell? I’ve heard at Port and then I heard on board guest services…which one? Or u just don’t say anything? I’m confused on the replies that have been given about a no show. I have an assigned stateroom that I want to keep. First the cruise is sold out. It’s the first Icon of the seas passenger trip on it (the world’s largest passenger ship right now). So I just want to make sure (are things going to be handled differently from other cruises? If anyone can answer those questions greatly appreciated. And it already paid in full I don’t care about refund. I just want to keep my stateroom but it will just be me instead of me and guest. Thanks!

Posted (edited)

Since someone already brought this thread back, I have a question.

My wife didn't sail on the Dec 17th last month (yes, I still sailed).  Her taxes and port fees have yet to be refunded.  How long does it normally take for the refund?

I posted about the no extra points, and it is clearly stated in the FAQ that no extra points unless "booked" as a solo.

So you need to tell them in advance and they may reprice the trip.

I wouldn't say anything until you checkin pier side. If tell them now and they reprice it as a single you are in for a big upcharge.  You may get double points but those points won't be worth the increased fare.  I wouldn't expect anything to be handled differently just because it is the first sailing.  The people checking you in at Miami have checked in millions of people for all kinds of cruises and nothing should be different about this one.

I’ve already paid full price for 2 people. You think a single room charge is more than that?

If its repriced it's repriced at current rates.  I'm going to assume that that will be higher than what you paid. Current rates are near triple from what they were when itineraries were first released.

I don’t know I have an assigned state room and the ship is sold out. Everything is sold out! I don’t know what you mean by re price. Does anyone have any input about a guest that may not show up on cruise day? What to do? We have different check in times. It’s fully paid assigned stateroom. I don’t care about points. Who do I need to or not need to tell for/if the 2nd guest doesn’t show?

You don’t need to do or tell anyone anything.  Just check in at your assigned time.  If the check-in person asks where the other passenger is, just tell him/her that the other passenger has a later check-in time.  When, eventually, the ship sails without the other passenger, a refund of taxes and other port fees will be initiated.  Those will be credited back to the original form of payment.

OP here--Couldn't believe it when I read I had a reply to this post after all this time!

We said nothing at check in and were never asked. My son told his room steward he'd be alone in the room. At dinner first night we told them we'd be one short. Same thing at the couple of speciality restaurants we had booked. No big deal at all--except that it was due to my son's break up so he had to often hear gf's name at meals when we were checking in! Other than that absolutely nothing.

And we did not get double points but we were refunded port fees and pre-paid items like speciality restaurants.

How long did the refund for port fees and taxes take?
