namowal Posted August 16, 2022 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2022 Are there any quiet places to read on the Discovery Princess? I know some ships have a nightclub area that's usually quiet in the morning and into the afternoon, but not sure about Discovery. Thanks in advance! I would say, if you want to be indoors, probably the quietest place would be in the Take Five lounge. Although it’s next to the casino, if you sit on the opposite end, it should be quiet during the day. Another quiet place which I utilized a lot around mid morning was at the Crown Grill bar area. Also, if nothing is going on in Princess Live! venue, it’s very nice in there as well. Discovery is a beautiful ship.
skynight Posted August 17, 2022 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2022 For indoors during daytime try: Area next to windows outside of Princess Live and Crown Grill Bar Crown Grill Bar Take Five Lounge Crooner's Vista Lounge at times. There will be scheduled activities. Not much outdoors but try deck 17 above the Lido pools. Walk aft from the pool area to where the lounges are. Structure of the ship may provide shade in these areas. MUTS will be heard. The four promenade patios on deck 7. The one outside of GiGi's probably reserved for outdoor pizza seating. The one outside of the Bistro probably available when the Bistro is closed. The starboard aft one is a smoking area. Port side aft will be no smoking. There is also the sanctuary option which is a fee area.
cruisingrob21 Posted August 17, 2022 #5 Share Posted August 17, 2022 My biggest gripe with the royal class ships combined with the "new princess" since about 2020 is rooted in the OPs request. The new ships have very few indoor spaces with views on upper decks. And it seems like Princess has gone from playing instrumental based music throughout to lyrical top 40 music. I don't mind it generally, except I find it really challenging to read when listening to music with lyrics - but that's just me. On the Discovery in May I would commonly try to read on the aft exterior deck behind the buffet - well, they seemed to make the music extra loud back there unfortunately.
DCThunder Posted August 17, 2022 #6 Share Posted August 17, 2022 Crooners was where the knitters and crocheters met every morning on sea days when I was on Enchanted in April/May. Others would come in and read, do Sudoku puzzles, or other quiet activities. The chairs and couches were more comfortable than those in Take Five, which was also another place you could hang out and read. As for the music on the PA system, at least they finally stopped playing "island music" when we got to Copenhagen.
Rare dides Posted August 17, 2022 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) We found Crooners on Enchanted to be a quiet reading place during the day with the bar not opening until early evening so would assume it would be the same for Discovery. Loved the red 'James Bond' chairs which are placed so you can look up from whatever you are reading and look out of the windows. There may be some residual music from the Piazza but generally it's quiet and not a corridor either. Edited August 17, 2022 by dides
JF - retired RRT Posted August 17, 2022 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) For a quiet outdoor area, we walked all the way aft on the Promenade deck and found 3 or 4 chairs with no one around. Very quiet, but no shade. The white "hook-shape" areas were where we sat. Edited August 17, 2022 by JF - retired RRT

Another gripe of mine about the Royal class (sorry) is why they couldn't have connected one side of the ship to the other in this aft exterior area of deck 7? Make it another "skywalk" over the aft wake - enclose it in glass or with tall plexiglass barriers if worried about nefarious activity. It just has bugged me that if you want a view out the front or aft of the ships now, you have to go all the way up to the top decks to see.

I had shade on a few afternoons.
Rare HaveDogWillTravel Posted August 17, 2022 #11 Share Posted August 17, 2022 And there’s a poorly marked (read lightly used) restroom just inside the door leading inside.
