Deluxe Drink Package - Can you use it on Day 1?

Recommended Posts

Hi,  We purchased the Deluxe Drink Package for our upcoming cruise, have noticed some cruise lines will not allow you to use it on Day 1? Is this the case with RC, can we board, relax and get a drink with the package or will we have to wait until the next day to take advantage of it?

Definitely you can use it from the moment you board!

That for cruises out of NY and Texas.

Definitely can use it First day for Florida ports. I heard that Carnival does not allow use of their special casino Drinks on Us package the first day out of Texas.

Nope. An adult beverage can be ordered as soon as you board in Texas, but they will have a limited selection of alcoholic drinks available until they reach International waters.

The OP referenced some cruise lines and I was referencing the Cheers Package on Carnival . I should have mentioned Carnival as the "other line"

If you haven’t picked up your sea pass card from your room you either just show your set sail pass on the app, or tell them your cabin number.

Or someone else’s 😬 wait that’s if you don’t have the drink package

Texas embarkations allow the use of your drink package immediately, there are a few brands that aren't available until the ship is in international waters (around dinner time) but that is it.

I can't speak to New York

Yep - all cruise lines have a separate drink menu that is available from Galv just until you hit international waters.  Some stupid TABC laws that limit what they can serve in "Texas waters" - just a hang-over from the blue-law days I think.

Has nothing to do with blue laws, it’s a tax issue. In Texas waters you have to serve alcohol that has been taxed in Texas.
The only “limit” to what they can serve, is what the cruise lines want to pay tax on.

You can use the package as soon as you board the ship. The only cruise line I know that doesn’t allow the drink package on day one is Carnival on cruises out of NY and Texas. There might be others out there too, but Carnival is the only one I know about.

That was our experience also going out of Galveston.  However, we were always able to find something to drink.  It's about the TX tax and the cruise lines don't want to pay the "extra" tax.  I was told it's to encourage selling TX friendly booze.  The only draft beer was a TX brew that we could get.  It was really good however.
