Are Vax and Unvax differentiated on Celebrity now that everyone can cruise?

Jim-lain...we booked two weeks ago (14 SEP 2022 to be exact), AFTER Celebrity announced all vax and unvaxxed guests were allowed to travel and welcomed aboard.  I received the email today, 26 SEP 2022, regarding the seating arrangements for our group.  No TA is involved in forwarding old emails.  The dining seating arrangement email came directly from Celebrity.  Thank you!

Hovank:

Are you on one of the nine days or less trips, where up-to-date vaccinated don't need to present a test but unvaccinated do?

I am traveling with a group in NOV and just received a notice from Celebrity for dining which stated that vax and unvax guests are seated in different locations in the dining room.  Has anyone run into this onboard now that Celebrity is allowing all passengers to sail?  Is the theater area for shows designated seating for vax and unvax also?  Do your room cards have vaccination status on them or do guests wear wrist bands?  I would appreciate any input from anyone that has recently sailed.  Thank you!

Yes they are. You will see testing instructions for Up-to-Date* Guests vs Fully Vaccinated** and Unvaccinated Guests.

This is mainly for cruises 10 nights and greater. All guests are treated the same, generally for cruises 9 nights and less. Please note that cruises departing from certain ports or calling on certain ports may have unique testing requirements.

Please refer to Celebrity's website, Healthy at Sea for details regarding your specific sailing. COVID-19 Cruise Health & Safety Protocols | Celebrity Cruises

I am our group leader, not a TA.   I received this email today, 26 SEP 2022.  We booked about two weeks ago for a NOV cruise.

How big a group are you leading? To be honest, when I read the email my first thought was that it was meant for someone that coordinating a charter.

We were on the Eclipse in late Aug and we had no idea whether the people next to us were vaxed or not.

Until 5th September the only un-vaxxed on board were children.

We just booked a cruise for Dec., 2022 with my family. We’ve booked 3 separate cabins

We include both vaccinated and unvaccinated, and do not want to be separated for meals, etc.  I just got off the phone with Celebrity.  They assured me segregation is not occurring anywhere on the boat, specifically dining rooms, shows and other areas. Vaccinated can sit with unvaccinated. She verified this with coworkers.( And, I assume her supervisor.).  I truly hope she is correct!

Thanks for the explanation.     Interesting to hear how they will handle dining.   I can now understand how they can handle it.   Have they indicated whether there would also be protocols for the Theater and Casino?

I'm having a hard time understanding how only segregating unVaxed in the dining room will have any influence risk of spreading covid.

I wonder if Suite guests will be getting a similar notification soon?
Luminae is smaller than the MDR.

Really good point C-Dragons.      Blu while not as large as the MDR is also another smaller venue.

Also then you have to dig deeper and ask about the Ocean View and the Specialties.     I guess we opened a real bag of worms.

Just a question....

how effective Now are the original 2 shots we received when the vaccinations first came out early in 2021?

We have followed up with all of our additional boosters, but I know there are people who only got the first two shots.

As I understand it,  to board the ship today we just have to present our Vaccination Card.  There may not be any follow up boosters on it.

So, if the original 2 shots are still effective, why do we need boosters?  and if the original vac's aren't still effective, then maybe those without boosters should be considered UnVac'd!

Just asking......😟

Just checked in today for our Nov. cruise.  One of the health questions was "have you received a booster shot" in addition to the 2 vaccinations.  No one has said that was a requirement, but happy we're up to date with 3 boosters never-the-less.  From other posts/threads some comments indicate there's more cases onboard ships than I thought.

I also wonder if the notification the group leader received is a 'standard group form' issued to every 'group' large or small;  perhaps the issuer/system hasn't caught up to the latest evolution of standards?

That's strange - I checked in this morning for our November 12 cruise and did not encounter any health questions. Just a pop-up detailing the latest procedures.....

For my Nov 6 cruise, the check in included three sections "Travel Info", "Arrival Time", and "Health Status".  The Health Status section was 3 questions, 2 relating to vaccinations (whether fully vaccinated and whether boosted).

They better not be segregating with the change in allowing everyone onboard! That goes against their whole welcoming of everyone onboard. If they tried to segregate, they’d have people canceling who wouldn’t be able to dine with their travel companions, and the unvaccinated certainly wouldn’t be feeling welcomed.

You can go further into it and fill in the health question responses in advance, but I think you have to do it again the day before sailing (more relevant for sure).  That's the cruise we're on BTW.

I figured it out - the health questions were on the app. I was checking in earlier on my laptop.

I found them - operator error on my part. It is really starting to feel real now that we have checked in. Hope to see you on our Roll Call or onboard!

The simplest answer to your question is that the boosters, for a brief time, boost your resistance to infection, which for people like me, going on a transatlantic and needing to produce a negative, observed test, might make the difference in boarding or not.

The reason to go get the new bivalent booster is that it is tailored to the new highly infectious omicron variants.

The original shots still greatly reduce your risk for severe disease and death, but by the time omicron started to become dominant, the second booster was doing almost nothing to prevent infections. Severe disease and death was also starting to creep up a little, but there is still no solid evidence that the original shots “stopped working”. Remember prior to the new bivalent shot, the boosters were just repeats of the same genetic material in slightly different doses. It’s thought that this shot will decrease infection and transmission as well as stopping any increase in severe disease and death.

Less transmission means fewer chances for the virus to mutate.

To be clear the vaccines are still doing exactly what they were designed to do against all known varients i.e. to reduce the risk of serious illness and death. Anything else for example reducing the spread is an added bonus. To date I have 5 jabs including the latest tweeked Moderna, and my wife (not eligible for the spring booster due to being under 75) has had 4. We will every additional jab that becomes available.

We also still have to have a negative test prior to our October TA on Anthem.

I mean I guess it depends on how you look at it. I always thought of a vaccine as something that prevented an illness. DH and I are both double vaxed but got Covid anyway. Did the vaccine do its job?  If it’s job was to prevent, then the answer is no. If it’s job was to reduce symptoms, then maybe. Idk at this point. I’m just glad cruising has resumed for everyone and that everyone can do what feels right for their personal situation.

the penguins is correct IMO. Although the media fell all over itself in the early days of the 'vaccine' touting it as a preventative measure, it was always intended to reduce hospitalizations and death. Which it did for the most part I believe. There was a total misrepresentation of 'breakthrough' cases right off. But that is another story.

BTW, I, like you, always thought of vaccines being a preventative measure. Obviously that is not the case. I'm fully vaxxed, boosted, etc as is my DW. But we both got it (albeit at different times.) Most people I know are vaxxed, boosted but have still gotten it eventually.

Nobody I know has gotten severely ill...not even close. (With one exception before the 'vaccine'...)

Since this post is very close to 'discussing' you know what, it is very likely to disappear...so it goes...

Depends on your definition of 'effective'

Yes; how effective are your T cells?  I just do what my MDVIP doctor says because I pay him and he is also a friend too.  Love all the great research that is always updated too.  My DH and I already received the new booster and it was so pain free and easy to help with Omicron.  Being gone for over a month on b2b/TA cruises, I just want to allow research, probability and a healthy immune system to do its job.  I am sure that eventually I will contact C, but just do not want it on a cruise IF I can help it!  I do not expect everyone to agree or disagree...we all do what we choose because we can within the scope of the ever-changing rules.
