The Real Loveboat

The only part of this that I watched was the opening theme song as it was shown on a local entertainment show that I like to watch.

Not sure why I clicked on this thread, but according to a Google search Paolo is a real captain linked to a couple Carnival brands.

https://www.distractify.com/p/who-is-captain-paolo-arrigo-the-real-love-boat

Ezra bills herself as a social media "influencer"

https://www.linkedin.com/in/ezraemilyfreeman

https://www.ezrafreeman.com/blank-1

and while she links to IMDB, the only tv/movie acting credit she has is this show.

And it's already established that Matt was (is?) a real CD for Carnival (and/or sister brands).

Unless they are lying, the Captain is a real Princess Captain, the cruise director is a real Princess cruise cruise director, and the bartender is a real Princess bartender. But, why worry about the facts, it gets your number of posts up.

That's not what shows up on IMDb bios and other sites.

Move The Amazing Race back to 9PM and send the Love Boat nonsense to a slow death at 10PM.

I would have put Love Boat on Friday at 8, made the race air on Wednesday at 9, and moved SWAT to 10 on Wednesdays.

Matt is/was a Cruise Director on Carnival ships.  I know, as stated earlier, I had lunch with him on the Carnival Sunshine (I believe it was the Sunshine, could be wrong about the ship) several years ago.

Wasn't pointing to Matt.

Nope, that's true.  However, you didn't point out anybody.  You were responding to a post that mentioned 3 people, the Captain, The Bartender, and the Cruise Director (Matt).  You just made a generalized statement.  Therefore, my comment was made about your generalized comment about all three people.

Some of the free streaming services (like Pluto tv) show episodes of the original 24/7.  And others have the second version.  Search on your home screen if you have Roku or Amazon Fire.  Not as good as Monty Hall on Fantasy Island, but hey, what is.

De Plane De Plane.  I always thought that he was practicing telling people to get off the plane.  I've got a good job about the little guy.  But, It is way too inappropriate for here.

OK fellow CCer's, now that we have established that the Real Love Boat is TV garbage, what type of TV show, set on a Cruise ship, would you make. Would it be a reality TV show like the Amazing (Slow) Race, or a Survivor like show where teams compete while while trying to survive 40 days in some Royal Loft Suites? Or would it be a murder mystery show with a Diamond Plus Angela Lansbury character solving murders each week while sipping her free drinks?

I'm leaning towards a show where a Ted Lasso type character becomes the unlikely Captain is some third rate cruise line's ship named The Wingding and the cruise line could be  'Festival Cruise Line'. Captain Ted and his quirky crew could have weird and wonderful adventures while trying to sail around the globe while not actually being able to find their first port of call.  Think Ted Lasso meets Gilligan's Island. I'm thinking Scarlett Johansson as Ginger and Emily Blunt as Mary Ann.

Discovery Channel is interested in the Ted Lasso meet Gilligan's Island idea but they are insisting that we need to add a shark as a recurring character. Hmmm? 🤔

Sticom!  A good comedy show without any political or cultural messaging in it.  A show that has a lot to do about nothing!

I'm not sure what to make of it.  It seems boring on the first episode, but from the clips at the end, it looks like it might be a cross between "The Amazing Race" and "Love Island".  I don't care for "Love Island", but I'm a HUGE "Amazing Race" fan (never miss an episode).

Well, there is hope for the show.  Hanna Ferrier, the Below Deck Chef Stew, fired for bring illegal dope on the Yacht, is casted on the Real Love Boat.  So, we have that to look forward to.

NOT!

Really?  I don't think it's been established.    Is it emmy worthy tv?  No, but I'd be willing to bet you watch other shows that are less than stellar.   I find it interesting that because it's on Princess some had already established their feelings, probably even before it aired.   You all do realize that just like the original show, Princess is using this as advertising.  I don't particularly care for any reality show as none of them are really 100% real anyway, but I do love the backdrops (countries, ship, etc).  Some people on CC  who I didn't think were so are so rigid.  TV is about leaving reality behind and relaxing for a bit.  Why are people taking this so seriously?

I think the show has its place.  They just haven't dug it yet.

But, being even more serious, the show has, in my opinion, a niche.  I just don't think it is a big enough niche to sustain the show for more than a season or two, again MY OPINION!

I never thought that Baywatch was a good show.  But, I knew that sex sells.  So, all the Pamula Anderson/David Hasselhoff types that were actual and reoccurring stars on the show sustained it.  They also had extremely popular guest stars as well.  Some sexy and some not so sexy (Gerald Riviera).

Yes, The Real Love Boat has some very sexy participants, that's for sure.  But, they aren't THE stars of the show.  The stars are not at all sexy, at least not so far, and they wear uniforms.  In fact, I don't believe the bartender has any sex appeal, at all.  Sex sells, period.  No, I'm not talking about Porn., either.  Inuendo is king.

A show that has to do about nothing? No way, it will never work.😉

I hope folks realize that line you quoted is what we call a set up line for the following (semi) joke.

The chicken never really crossed the road.

And the first baseman wasn't really named "Who" 😁
