Jewelry Purchased on ship Broke!

I was on the Edge on its TA and bought a $300 bracelet that when I got home (it was in the jewelry bag they gave me) I took it out and it was in two pieces!

My question is this:  Is there any way to get it either replaced or repaired OR refunded.  Who should I contact at Celebrity?  If any one has experience with something like this, please let me know how it was resolved.

Thank you

Patty

I had an "experience."  Purchased a bracelet (less than 300, had to use up  OBC), and it broke first time I wore it.  It came with a lifetime warranty.  Sent it off to the address listed, and it came back "no such address."  LOL

Fortunately, I did have another Celebrity cruise booked, so I took my bracelet and envelope with me.  That same vendor was on board (and it was a vendor not a store).  So the bracelet was replaced.

BTW it broke again, very soon after I got home.  🤔

Sounds like the " real " Rolex watches they sell on the Islands--

Ya can't fool me----I knew it was " real " because Rolex was spelled correctly, the gold band was very shiny, and besides, the Salesman said so--

Holy cow, we were " best " friends within minutes---regular price- $125--- because we were " friends"---$75.

Unfortunately, after a while ----

The time got stuck on 1.18 and my wrist turned green.

I must have developed an allergy to gold.

First, you will need to figure out which store or company you bought it from.  You likely bought it from a company who rents space for their store on a Celebrity ship.  Receipt in the bag?  Any warrantee in the bag?

I would contact the company directly and not Celebrity.   If the same would have happened at a local shopping mall, you would likely have better results contacting the jewelry company you bought it from and not the company who owns the mall.

In the end, you will likely be out the couple hundred bucks.  Probably better to buy jewelry locally.

Funny story.....we were on a cruise and got one of those beautiful (free) stones from Eufy.

I was taking a jewelry class and thought I would use it as a center for a "flower" I was making. During the setting of the stone, I had to fix a solder joint, so applied a little heat to the bezel it was set in and the stone MELTED!

I certainly hope that the "real" stones they sell in their shops don't melt when they get hot!

It is sad that Celebrity can't/won't assist you in getting this resolved. It is true that they don't control the sales in the store, but they are allowing a shop to rent space and thus Xs reputation is tied with the shop.

if X truly cared bout their customers, they would assist you in getting in contact with the company (which they have to know how to do). Sad that no one cares about "us" once we step off the ship!

Our last cruise was in October 2019 and we did the Caribbean on MSC Seaside. Our anniversary was coming in November and my wife really wanted a tanzanite bracelet.

We checked jewelry shops in the ports but she couldn’t find one she liked, at the price she was willing to pay. Just for kicks, we checked out the shops on the ship and she found one should really liked, at a good price compared to what we saw in the ports. About two months later, she was going to wear it and saw there was a stone missing. She called the number on the paperwork and they couldn’t have been nicer. They paid for the insurance on the bracelet ($2,500 bracelet) and postage to send it back. Received the repaired bracelet back in a week or so, through the mail, postage and insurance included. 0 cost out of our pocket.

Thank you for all the replies.  I only have the receipt in the jewelry bag the bracelet was presented to me in.  I do have another cruise in February on the same ship so I will just wait and hope they make good on it when I show them what happened.

Show them the invoice from the cruise. If you don't have it call Celebrity and request the invoice that shows you bought it , where, and the price paid. I expect that they will give you your cash back or a replacement. They accepted my DW's without proof, but she is known to them. I expect that they will request you to get documentation and you should be prepared.

Years ago I had a chance to buy a Rolex for $30 and it came in it’s own ziplock sandwich bag. Passed on it, I needed the sandwich bag more than another watch and $30 was just too much. This was in Cozumel.

I would protest the charge for the bracelet to my credit card.  I had bought a bracelet in Jamaica and when I got home a diamond fell out of it.  I protested the charge to AE and they took the charge off my bill and told me to keep the bracelet.  I offered to send it back to them, but they didn't want it.

Respectfully--- I don't agree.

Every Company, whether on land or at sea, has their own policies ---

Examples---

1---You get " brain dead " at the Art Auction and pay $$$(US) for a painting only later to find out that there were " shrills " in the audience bidding high to increase the ( your ) price.

Is that the " responsibility " of Celebrity to make sure that doesn't happen?

2--- You take a 5 minute Free message --- turns into a 73 minute , $357(US) "***** happened " to ME session---

Is that the "responsibility " of Celebrity to make sure Pinboy doesn't get taken to the " Cleaner's" by a pretty , young , Spa Attendant , er, ( Sales Specialist) ?

That must have been around 1956---

Today you could have sold it for $300---- (to someone like me).

As mentioned, a few times--- I know a fake Rolex when I see one---- If Rolex is spelled correctly, it's no fake.

The moral of the story - don't buy anything of value from the shops on a ship!

If you have non-refundable OBC to use up, then do so in the knowledge that if it breaks or goes wrong, throw it away and move on!

The  moral is to take a cruise on a ship that has there same shop and return it for a refund or replacement. Any excuse for another cruise is positive.

I've done those 5 minute teaser massages many times.  Once put my name in a drum and got a one hour massage for $69 but had to be on a port day early in the morning. This was about 10 years ago.

I respectfully suggest that there is a difference between “you” making a poor decision (which X is NOT culpable for) and a company selling you defective merchandise. Customers will remember that they went on an X cruise and bought something from “some store” and it broke. who gets the bad PR?

Now, if I bought an expensive item and later had buyer’s remorse, that’s on me, but defective merchandise is a totally different story! Plus, if memory serves me correctly, X has some sort of guarantee program with their port shops. i can’t imagine that guarantee doesn’t extend to their ship-board shops as well.

Celebrity would assist you, but waiting till February probably easier.  Just bring your receipt and your cruise statement if you have it.  Calling Celebrity and giving them the details might make your February experience better.

Bracelets if not a chain style and actually lots of individual square pieces held together by tiny 3 sided clips.  If bent just a teeny tiny bit the clip will not stay put and you now have a 2 piece bracelet.  Very expensive platinum and solid gold bracelets are held together the exact same way.  Am guessing it was sizable.

Agree there are probably better places to buy jewelry.

I generally don't buy jewelry on board but have purchased in ports with no issues. I find pricing heavily inflated on the ship be it jewelry watches or handbags.

Sometimes you can find a real bargain. Use internet to check prices. DW found a Furla bag for $200 that sold elsewhere for $1000. She also purchased a Bulgari watch for much less than they were selling it at Kirks. I also check eBay for what things actually sold. Check the "art". The prices on the ship are absurd.

Can we agree , it’s “ Buyer Beware “ regarding whatever you buy or service you buy whether on land or a cruise?

It’s not the fault of the Shopping Center or the Cruise Company if things go “south “.

From what I’ve heard— Celebrity gets a “referral fee” from stores they “ promote “ throughout the cruise during port talks.

Again— Buyer Beware.
