Tour company asking for passport info

A tour company in Spain is asking everyone for their passport numbers.  Is this common practice?  I know hotels usually ask for your passport.

It's not unusual in my experience for tour operators to request passport information from foreign clients.

It is common (and even required in some countries).  No reason to get concerned about giving our your name and Passport number.

Going to the Alhambra?   It's all about the level of security at this site. It's a pain to add all the required info when booking for this tour, but well worth it.

No, just to Seville.

My agent asks for a copy of the photo page from your passport. Willing to bet one or 2% of the time people send a passport page showing that the passport is expired. Agents in tour operators want to catch this before the customer tries to get on an airplane.

We went to Thailand and Vietnam recently, and yes, tour companies asked for our passport info ahead of time. They said it was required for paperwork they had to do as a tour company there.
