Guest age range on pride

I'm booked on The Pride Sept. 10, 2023 sailing, Dover to Rome, 9 days. Originally booked solo as that's how I normally travel. Have cruised before but this is first European cruise for me. My 23 year old grandson recently said he'd love to go with, so last night I added him to my booking. How awesome that he wants to travel with me! My question is I'm wondering the age range on this type of cruise, any chance there will be many others is his age group? Not that it's a care or concern  but just curious. I took my 17 year old grandson on a 5 day Caribbean in January and we had a blast!

Well, I’ll take a stab at this.  The general rule of thumb is that the longer the cruise, the older the demographic.  That’s because younger folk do not have the money for the longer cruises, nor do they have the vacation time to take them.  The more exotic itineraries also have an older following, and will be full of platinum and Diamond cruisers who have already been everywhere else.  Not that the itinerary is exotic…just that for Carnival, it is.  Not sure how many guests there will be in his age group, but as long as he is comfortable with older folk, he will be fine.  EM

Given the timing of your cruise I don't suspect their will be many people his age traveling on this cruise. I think if it was the heart of the summer you'll have more extended family groups on which would include post college  age travelers. Having said that these kinds of itineraries are about the port stops.

If you're grandson is interested in working out the good news is the Pride will have gone through it's drydock and one of the mentioned changes will be updating the Fitness Center with new equipment, which is sorely needed

You didn't make mention of your own personal physical abilities nor what your relationship is with your grandson but what I'll add is let your grandson know if he wants to spend more time wandering around some of the port stops than you have energy for that it's OK for him to do his own thing.

Same thing after dinner on the ship. He shouldn't feel like he has to be with you 24/7.

I just checked your itinerary and you're jammed packed with wonderful ports that have tons of things to see. I would suggest that you talk to him about having him research what's there to see at each port and what interests him. Just about every port you're visiting can be done on your own by foot exploring the city streets and attractions.

The cruise industry as a whole can be grouped as follows.  As mentioned, I think your cruise will tend towards an older demographic:

Average Cruise Passenger Age Group
  •
    19 Years & Younger: 13%
  •
    20-39 Years Old: 21%
  •
    40-59 Years Old: 32%
  •
    60+ Years Old: 34%

It won’t be like a 5 night Caribbean cruise for sure. Longer itinerary in Europe outside of the summer school break in the US. You can expect clientele to skew on the older side.

With that said, we took our kids on a Mediterranean cruise during the month of November and they loved it. There were few kids their age onboard. We only met two other families from the US. But there were quite a few kids from all over Europe at the kids club. Even with the language barrier, they made friends and had a great time. In fact, they keep asking when we will be returning.

Will probably be an older demographic on this cruise.  Having been on some of the longer European cruises I can tell you that people are so tired after touring in the ports that the ship is kinda quiet after 9 or 10 pm, as everyone is exhausted and goes to sleep - especially if it is an early port the next day! BTW -  you are a great grandparent for taking your grandkids on cruises!

I was on the Pride last summer and there were people his age, but not a lot. Specifically, we went on a lot of Sandra's tours and there was a family traveling with their college aged/grad school aged kids and their kids' friends who we frequently sat with because we also had our kids. I suspect that being in the fall and not the summer (when many college kids are off) there will be even fewer.  However, it will still be an amazing experience and there will not be much time for socializing anyway with all of the site seeing.

The OP's grandson is 23.

I've been on Pride 7X (from Baltimore)  and always met people of a variety in ages.

Met lots of twentysomethings along the way at the bars/casino who were very sociable and always ready to chat with this old bat!

The OP is leaving from the UK which makes the experiences from Baltimore difficult to compare.

Thank you all for your responses, much appreciated. I was thinking it would probably be more of an older crowd for the most part. Even as a child, this grandson has been more comfortable with adults & can and will talk up a storm to anyone. I know I will be quite low key in evenings as will be so port intensive. We plan on doing alot of exploring. I'm no "wonder woman" physically but am a walker. Art, music and culture is what we both love. I'm a pretty laid back traveler, normally solo and usually just a back pack and I'm good to go but traveling with young adult age grandkids one-on-one is so fulfilling & so exciting. Lol my 11 year old granddaughter already has "our trip" planned for when she turns 17 🙂

Given what you have just said, he will be just fine!
