Thanks for our Sunday Daily, Rich.

Great collection of days - especially hug your cat day & cheese day.  Always good to hug our fur babies & yum on cheese 🙂

Love the Fitzgerald quote and the book.  The meal suggestion sounds fabulous.  The wine sounds expensive - good thing it’s red 😂

Newfoundland is the only province I haven’t gotten to.  Planned to go this year until the elbow so hopefully next year 🤞 It was on DD DH’s & my bucket list.

It’s another cold, windy wet one here.

Haven’t heard yet how much it has / hasn’t helped the fires.  Oops hit post in error so..

Prayers for those on the Care list & for those that need them and cheers 🥂 to those celebrating.

Good morning everyone.  Thank-you for the daily report.  I love applesauce cake, sadly no cat to hug.  Hooray for cheese, one of my favorite snacks. I like today’s quote although I have not read the book.  The meal sounds delicious while the drink sounds serious.  I haven’t been to today’s port but hope to someday. Prayers for everyone on the prayer list.  Cheers to all of you celebrating ___________!!! 🎉

Good afternoon.

Thank you for today's daily reports.

Father David was thrilled to get lots of compliments for his sermons on you tube and asked me to thank all of the Dailyites who posted.

I like cheddar and Red Leicester cheese.

I always hugged and loved our cats when we had them.

Prayers 🙏 for all Dailyites who are unwell.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and y'all enjoy Father David's sermon.

Good morning. It is chilly here and the first dog walk of the day required fleece. It will get to 70 later. Applesauce cake is delicious and cats are hugged a lot around here.I like the quote and the meal sounds great.

We have been to the port on the VOV. The black flies were out on force and I wished I had a hat like Debbie's  @dfish! My DB and I tried to go for a hike but swarms of them around our heads soon had us turning back.We did have a good laugh though.

@JazzyV,Vanessa, thank you for including DH on the cares list .He is improving  every day and can be taken off.

Yesterday was tiring as there is no aide for Tana on weekends  but we got through it.

Enjoy the day everyone!

Good morning Dailyites. Thank you Rich for keeping us together.

I believe today is Canadian Armed Forces Day. Thank you for your service. Lifting prayers for all on our cares list. Graham thank you for Father David's message.

Something woke me up with a start at 3:30 and couldn't get back to sleep, so read all the news, said my prayers and onto my next cup of coffee.

I know many folks will be hugging cats today.

My favorite cheese is Morbier. I could eat the whole wheel in one swoop.

Many thanks to all of our posters. Sending blessings and kindness.

Good morning friends!  It's Sunday so a day off from exercise.  I've had breakfast and am ready to tackle the Daily now.  Thanks to Rich @richwmn for posting it for us today.  And thanks to Graham @grapau27 for Father David's sermon.  😇

A nice group of days today.  My twin has a good applesauce cake recipe so I should tell her this is her day to make one.  I wasn't as big a fan of it as she was.  Reminded me of fruit cake.🤔  Everyone who can should hug their cat this morning. 🐈 I don't have one but wish all the cats and cat lovers my best.  National cheese day should go over big.  I like cheese a lot and usually have at least a little bit everyday.🧀

I am fine with F. Scott Fitzgerald's quote.  And a big day in U.S. golf when they won the Ryder Cup in 1927.

No thanks to the scallop recipe today.  But I appreciate you posting the recipe Debbie @dfish.  Death and Taxes should be quite an interesting concoction.  Can't wait to see that Dixie, @summer slope .  A Syrah today for the wine, but I don't drink red so more for all of you.  Thanks Ann @cat shepard for your report on it.

Prayers for those on the Care list and even if you're not.  🙏  Three cheers to the Celebration list people.  Hoping your happy events are going well, and to all the cruisers, fair winds and smooth sailing.🚢Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for posting it for us!

As to port of the day, Corner Brook, Newfoundland was a port on our Seabourn Route of the Vikings cruise in August 2018, Reykjavik to Montreal.  It was here as our port of the day on July 7, 2022.  The link is included as are photos from my one time there.  I am going back in August on Zaandam along with Debbie @dfish and sister Sue.

My report:

Nearing the end of our fabulous cruise from and to Iceland, Greenland, and Maritime Canada, our port on Aug. 27, 2018 was Corner Brook.  We intended to walk around the city and had no out of town plans for it.  I had been bitten several times in Red Bay by those nasty black flies and intended to locate some itch cream at a pharmacy to help relieve the pain.

Approaching the relatively large city of Corner Brook.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJIbkVeLA8xrx3RrwviOmXs?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538515977

Seabourn provided a shuttle bus to drive us to the City Hall.  On our way back to the ship we just walked.  It wasn't too far away.  Along the way we saw this cute display.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI50pheIelUlXX47GiEf1av?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516036

It seemed like a nice place and appreciative of their veterans of past wars.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKTqOvcKgZprTIN13pPN577?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516037

The light colored building with the bunting under the windows is actually a Museum attached to City Hall.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLp7ZEzcL_RimVQ1EKDOQQI?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516071

It seemed to be a nice town and we enjoyed the short walk to a shopping area.  A picturesque church along the route.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVKRyFqrCWuzZgjyQQfqhuiK?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516077

I could show you photos of shopping centers and strip malls but I won't.  We found the drug store, bought the itch cream and continued our hike.  Along the walk back to the ship we saw a Canadian Legion Hall.  Makes sense since in the U.S. we have American Legion Halls.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIOio48eExDJX2LtAeIUu9D?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538501569

Working up a thirst as we walked, it was good to see the ship, Seabourn Quest, awaiting our arrival.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVL7mxITSnXKCbNYXlzlk69l?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516112

While we were gone crew had been using a Zodiac to stand in to paint the hull.  I had seen them lowering a Zodiac at breakfast that morning.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI6wTAVOnlMcz7IbZ1ymcja?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538501570

Leaving Corner Brook and heading to Quebec City.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVIjgJt-s88jVJqcyoNaHEYR?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538516418

Then because I usually don't post food photos, or at least not often...This night we ate casually at the Patio Grill on the pool deck.  I had grilled chicken, corn on the cob (I normally don't eat that much so they must have served me my plate load of corn), and lobster mac and cheese.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVImd0Szw1LIxBzs2EBWCnwU?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1538501601

Great memories of that Seabourn cruise!

Hoping everyone enjoys doing something special this June 4.  I am remembering my DS Nancy who passed away 2 years ago today.  Also passing that day were Nancy's twin great grandsons who arrived months too early and could not survive.  Heaven became a little more populated that day.😢  But today is also a happy day because it is DS and DDIL's 23rd wedding anniversary!  Cheers to them.🥂

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for for today’s daily report.  Today is going to be another cool day with chance of rain.  Yesterday was a 40 degree drop from Friday, DH was ready to turn on the heat.  We are scheduled to visit today’s port in September on the Zaandam.  I’ll pass on today’s meal suggestion and I think we will have chicken and rice.   I’ll be giving each of the cats a hug.  Since we returned from our last cruise Mona has been my shadow and spending the night curled up next to me.  I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning everyone.   @Seasick Sailor Morbier is a favorite of mine too.   I had it at a restaurant and had to order it by mail order.  I don't recall our Wegmans stocking it either.

Thanks for the Daily and Fleet Reports.   I miss my cats, one loved hugs the other didn't.   I will pass on the scallops, withhold judgement on the cocktail and another rare wine I am fairly sure.

Prayers for all on our Care list and the people of Ukraine.

We got our badly needed rain yesterday.  I had just planted marigolds and zinnia seeds and the rain started.  It really cooled things off too.  A few garden visitors yesterday and a volunteer Jack in the Pulpit next to my Hosta.

Have a wonderful day! Nancy

Thank you for today’s R & D, Rich! An exquisite morning here! Lots of deer families out enjoying an early morning breakfast. Bindi and I even saw a few cranes and a Blue Heron on our morning walk.

Vanessa, thank you for taking care of us. @smitty34877 Terry praying DH continues to improve!

My birthday week celebration ends today with a group of friends enjoying a Sunday brunch.  Yesterday my neighbors and I had lunch at Salsas - a wonderful Mexican restaurant. I had to share a picture of their signature guacamole- there were four of us and we still did not finish it.

IMG_3712.jpeg.2db6250222f15d639e555e2806084ed3.jpeg

And since only two of us like “heat” I enjoyed half of the roasted jalapeño that topped it. It was just amazing.

Bindi walks, pool time and a few chores will wrap up my day.

Frenchman’s Hill Estate Syrah Waiheke Island Expatrius 2014

I knew I was in trouble when one of the responses to my Google search for this wine was Rich’s Fleet Report & Daily post! Not even Wine searcher helped. Or Vivino!

But the vintner has a decent description of this Syrah. I have no clue if they  ship outside of NZ, but they offer it for $125.00 a bottle.

Vintner’s notes

Notes: Synergy; a mutually advantageous conjunction or compatibility of elements.A perfect word that embodies the heart of Expatrius Syrah 15. Nurtured & grown in the the sandy, weathered pink and blonde clays of Expatrius a former airstrip. Luc describes the site as initially very savage; a highly calculated risk that reaped great rewards. Expatrius has nurtured into a Syrah that is denser and mature beyond it’s years.
Drink: 2023 – 2035.
Accolades: The wine’s consistent ratings speak for themselves; not one Expatrius vintage Syrah since the inaugural 2010 vintage has ever scored less than 95/100 points from any of the many critics that have tasted them. Perhaps the reason why allocations for FHE ‘s vintage collection are completely closed nowadays.

Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Graham, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann.  After a HOT Friday yesterday was hot and today will be more pleasant.  No cat to hug, Applesauce Cake sounds nice, and I like cheese in moderation.  I think I like the Fitzgerald quote but am not into Golf.  I have not actually been to Corner Brook but drove through the environs on a Smithsonian trip in 2000.  It was a port on my 2020 Zuiderdam cruise that was cancelled.  I had actually wanted to get off in Corner Brook, drive through Gander, and rejoin the ship in St. Johns but was denied permission, apparently due to requirements of Canada's equivalent of the Jones Act.  Leaving in about an hour as today is my second week on the crew livestreaming our worship service.  I'll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Pineapple Boat, Baked Ricotta Stuffed Shells, and Black Forest Cake as served on MS Prinsendam June 4, 2015.

Good morning, all! I wish I had a cat to hug, but I do have cheese, so I’ll make sure to give it special attention today.😉 I’ve never been to Cornerbrook, but hope to some day.

Well, the island has been hit with a heavier than usual tent caterpillar infestation. They’re everywhere. It’s been over twenty years since I’ve seen it this bad. Cutting those nests out of the apple trees helped temporarily, but now they’re coming out of the woods in waves. The current bushes were fine two days ago, and yesterday easily half the leaves were stripped. I’m fighting for the roses, but they are probably doomed.

On the other hand, there’s this:

And just like that, the deer are the lesser garden pest and look cute again!

Happy Sunday, everyone! I must say, you won’t find tent caterpillars aboard a BHB!

I think of applesauce cake as a winter cake, made when eggs were in short supply, or as a wartime cake. Still without cats to hug, but not for much longer. Heigh-ho the derry-o, the mouse takes the cheese.

No on the scallops. I don't know the drink but would be willing to try the wine. I haven't been to Corner Brook but I have been to Newfoundland, albeit only Gander Airport (for a refueling stop, in a CL44-J).

The service officiation yesterday didn't go badly, but there were tech problems that affected the Zoom feed. I sang the difficult piece well enough but messed up on easier ones. A member gave a sermon relating to Pride Month; we celebrate Pride Shabbat later in the month but they will be away then. After the service I went to a Pride festival where my organization had a booth, which volunteers had set up and staffed earlier.

They erected an EZ-Up canopy so we had protection against sun and the predicted rain, which did not materialize. I hoped it would rain in the evening, but it didn't, so we are now officially in a drought and no rain is expected for at least a week.

Good morning, everyone!

It is a chilly start to the day and we're loving it.  As soon as I post this, I will get ready for the morning walk.  This afternoon we are heading downtown for the annual Art Festival put on by the Center for the Arts.  DB and DSIL went  yesterday and said it was fantastic.

Thinking about you today, Sandi.  It is a bittersweet day for you.  Sue and I are excited to meet you on board the Zaandam next month.  We've never been to Corner Brook and we are looking forward to it.  We plan to hike the stream trail on our own.  That way I won't hold anyone up.  I've gotten slower over time and one hip repair and two new knees have added to that slowness.  All that metal is heavy to lug around.

Today's meal is made for me.   I love scallops and the wilted spinach sounds really good.  This recipe is easy.  The only change I would make is to add a hint of vinegar or lemon juice to the spinach.   https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/scallops-with-wilted-spinach/

Low in calories, low in carbs, what a perfect meal!

This next recipe has tips for getting a good sear on the scallops.  You want the dry scallops, not the ones that have been treated with STP.  STP allows the scallops to absorb extra water.  I have never been able to achieve a sear on those.  They steam rather than sear.  Besides, who wants the chemicals in their food?   https://www.dinner-mom.com/seared-scallops-wilted-spinach/
