The only offers we have ever seen were from the Blue Chip Club which is 100% part of Celebrity so not really a "third party". Hope your right that the test will fail.

While I am Blue Chip and received the comp from them, I have a third party casino host that works with all casinos. My host try’s to get deals for all their clients.  As an example, X might ask my host to send clients their way and response is their clients want to smoke, so X says how about we test vaping for a month or so on a couple ships.  X does and gets some new blood, spreads the word around some and sees if they generate more revenue.  If yes, policy stays, if no, policy goes away…

Same for us regarding offers only from Blue Chip Club. We don’t spend a lot of time in casino and will not enter if vaping is allowed. We worry about it expanding elsewhere and include smoking.

One of my email responses from The Executive Office included a call back phone number. I did make that call. I reiterated some of the points made in my emails and added a few more from notes that I had in front of me. I pointed out that not all vape streams are odorous/visible, and you might not know when you're walking through exhaled toxic residues. Cigarette smoke is bad enough, but at least you can see it.

I was advised that there are about ten individuals in the Executive Office taking calls. The number is 305-614-1343.

Azamara have a policy that was similar to Celebrity:

Azamara's ships have a designated smoking area on the portside forward section of the Pool Deck. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas of these ships, including public rooms, restaurants, the Pool Deck, staterooms and suites, verandas and hallways. Additionally, smoking is prohibited on all components of the land tour portion of all Azamara Club Cruises cruise tours. This policy includes the use of products like electronic cigarettes.

That is the policy of Celebrity except for this test.  They do have more than 1:outdoor smoking area but with 3 - 5X the number of passengers more spaces make sense.

P and O: are entirely smoke/vape free inside the ship and on balconies.

HAL: I believe has 2 ships which are smoke/vape free.

Princess: We dropped X in favour of Princess when X had its thankfully shortlived "compolsary AI" and Princess was as significantly cheaper. The main draw back for us was Princess allowing smoking in the casino but if X decides to also allow vaping in the casino Princess will again become a viable alternative.

Time to investigate P&O I think if X goes the smoking route. Dog walking friend sails P&O, Princess & Cunard (cut above for Cunard).

Thanks. I learn something every day. Never knew there was such a thing. Bit like a travel agent for gamblers.

The only thing is that in this case X doesn't seem to have informed any one in advance that they would be running any sort of trial. If they had I am sure it would have "lit up these boards" immediately and it would have been a hot topic on the President's Cruise.

I agree, and probably the reason they didn’t and also removed the vaping signage quickly. Invited gamblers wouldn’t want any attention, there to have a good time.

Which is hopefully costing the company more money than the projected increased casino revenue (which is probably way over estimated).

I just read an on-line, UK Daily newspaper article reporting that scientists from universities in Virginia and North Carolina conducted a study and warn of health impacts of second-hand vaping. The study finds e-cigarettes spew out 22-TIMES the safe level of microscopic toxins which when inhaled, the matter penetrates the lungs and irritates the entire respiratory system, possibly causing or worsening asthma, bronchitis, and heavy wheezing. Additionally the matter is small enough that it could enter the bloodstream, which can lead to system-wide inflammation that raises the risk to cardiovascular health.

I will forward the newspaper link to the Executive offices, Laura Hodges and Shareholder Benefits  email addresses that I have previously emailed our grave concerns to as well as the details of my husband’s very serious allergic reaction to second hand vape emissions in an outdoor setting. We had a lengthy follow-up phone call with Aurora, from Celebrity executive offices.

We set sail on the Eclipse on Aug. 6th while the trials are still scheduled to be taking place. We are very concerned how severe his next reaction will be, but now in an indoor setting and harder to avoid as  the emissions will waft everywhere!

Very scary, frustrating and disappointed that these trials are still on-going despite all the negative feedback Celebrity has been receiving and that vapers can't just vape in the already well established smoking areas, which we have no issue with. Potential life threatening reactions and negative long term health impacts are not the cruise experience we are looking for.

new studies come out every day on the  dangers of vaping and the effect on others  from stuff that spews out

vaping is not the better option to cigarettres as it turns out

current smoking areas outdoors are sufficient..for those who want a smoke

I'm starting to regret booking my first Celebrity cruise. I Had been really excited about it all but have a sinking feeling I'm not going to enjoy it if these boards are anything to go by. I Think I'll steer clear of them in future.

Hope so 👍

If you're referring to just this board, on vaping, then you're making an error if you think it is going to ruin your cruise. I am against vaping too and would actually be happy with no smoking of any kind. However, it isn't isn't going to ruin my December cruise on the Silhouette or February cruise on the Constellation. I have cruised with X a number of times (Elite Status) and I know what a relaxing pleasure it is to cruise with Celebrity, at least for me,  plus the many pleasant and interesting fellow passengers who will be onboard.

Great. You just linked two articles that supposedly did a vape study that actually conclude that PM 2.5's from burning fossils fuels are not good for you, and admit that they did not analyze what was in the vape.

Perhaps you missed this information in the article "However, scientists from universities in Virginia and North Carolina reported that when e-cigarette users puffed in their cars for less than just 10 minutes, the air around them became laden with possibly poisonous particulate matter known specifically as PM2.5 (denoting a diameter of 2.5 micrometers or smaller). PM2.5 can be generated from natural and human-engineered sources such as the burning of fossil fuels."   and "The authors of the new study reported: ‘This study demonstrated that a single person using an ECIG [electronic cigarette] in a vehicle with the windows closed can cause a measurable increase in [particulate matter] concentration.

‘Together, these data suggest that bystanders are likely exposed to secondhand ECIG aerosol when in a vehicle with someone who is actively using an ECIG.’"

I'm not looking for a lengthy debate as there as been so much already. I wanted to share recent information and my intention was to encourage anyone else who might be concerned to email to the addresses previously provided in this thread.

Nah, I did not miss the information in the article. The author is using a common tactic to link a valid study to something non-related. PM 2.5's is just a particle size, whether it is something solid such as metals, wood, ash, stone, asbestos....or something innocuous such as steam. It is typically referenced as a potential health hazard due to wildfires and other solid particulate pollution. The PM 2.5's from a steamy shower are not going to hurt me, the PM 2.5s from wildfires, sanding, asbestos removal, etc. (solid particles) can cause me some serious issues. Not trying to cause a debate, but as someone who works in a scientific field I can't stand junk science reporting.

Did anyone comment about the addition of verbiage on the Celebrity website on the table games casino page?

https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/casino/table-games

It's also on the main casino page.

https://www.celebritycruises.com/things-to-do-onboard/casino

Seems like it's pretty much a done deal if they've made the effort to update the website.

Here's what it says:

It’s a bustling, smoke-free* gaming environment like no other.

and at the bottom of the page

* In casinos on itineraries where e-cigarette smoking is allowed, there will be visible signage designating the areas for both vaping and non-vaping guests.

I guess the test is over. Some "test" I had pretty much figured it was a done deal. Celebrity management has blown it for no good reason.

In have a friend who just got back from a Virgin cruise. She is raving about how great it was. I will probably give them a try.

They have smoking in the casinos on Virgin. Although, it is in a designated smoking room with closed doors.

Basically the “test” has soured me on Celebrity. Particularly since it is an idiotic change and unnecessary regression. I was impressed with a cruise I took on Oceania which has some kind of smoking room too but I never saw it. Not saying I am finished with Celebrity only that I will be putting them on hiatus and doing some other cruise lines.
