EU rules on ship passenger rights usually apply when you travel on most ferries and cruise ships by sea or on inland waterways (rivers, lakes or canals) But please do provide your source as I’d be delighted to be proved wrong. You are quoting US rules.....no free cancellation under EU rules! 150% of a deposit isn't much in Europe as our deposits are a lot lower than US. Final payment isn't until July so they have plenty time to decide. Myself and LB know about cancellations as we had plenty during civid

Myself and LB know about cancellations as we had plenty during civid For the avoidance of doubt there is no EU rule that entitles you to compensation worth 150% of the fare if a cruise is cancelled. Or any compensation. You are legally entitled to a full refund or to be re-routed to your final destination “under comparable conditions at the earliest opportunity at no extra cost”.

Rare little britain Posted April 6 #2661 Share Posted April 6 (edited) I’ll let you know what the Anthem compensation is, if/ when it happens. I’m expecting my deposit back if they are going around empty; .. or 🤞 a straight switch to the new longer South African 🇿🇦 itinerary at no extra charge! Cant Imagine OP saying true, example is pay $500 down on Cruise that total cost is say $10K. It gets canceled and Royal owes you $15K. Dont think so... Blue Eyed Belfast Belle Posted April 6 #2665 Share Posted April 6 In the last few years I have many, many cruises cancelled and the choice was either deposit refunded or change with no admin fee.
xtremegk Posted April 8 #2666 Share Posted April 8 Maybe I'm the ignorant American here...but why would EU rules apply to UK residents on a cruise booked in the UK and departing the UK? I thought Brexit was about leaving the EU...

I thought Brexit was about leaving the EU... You’d think, but many of the EU’s rules simply transferred across to UK law and haven’t been changed - either intentionally or because they haven’t got round to it yet. For instance the EU’s generous rules on compensation for flight delays & cancellations haven’t really changed in the UK and have just been slightly updated. Cruises are governed by a separate set of rules in the UK as they are classed as package holidays. But they essentially follow the EU’s rules with no right to compensation in most cases, especially if the cancellation is due to “exceptional circumstances or an unforeseen event”. Interesting to see whether the repo’s announced tonight/tomorrow, or whether Royal will wait a bit longer to see how things pan out in the Red Sea.
