kiwimum Posted July 20, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 20, 2023 As someone who is actually at the tournament it is referred to both ways. The Open and The British Open.
memoak Posted July 20, 2023 #7 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Sports 24 should be on stateroom tv’s. Whether it will be on MUTS is a maybe

No we were there for the Scottish open also. Same as the US Open being referred to as Open in the country in which it is held.
Jadn13 Posted July 20, 2023 #10 Share Posted July 20, 2023 We aren’t allowed to refer to it as the “British Open” I work for the Golf Channel/NBC sports. The R&A requested that we stop calling it the British Open because that was never the actual title. We did that, we termed it something it wasn’t
Rare startedwithamouse Posted July 20, 2023 #11 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Always called it The Open. Never British Open.

Thrak Posted July 20, 2023 #15 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Been watching all morning. Definitely billed as simply "The Open". Sorry for my prior blunder.
Rare Rick&Jeannie Posted July 20, 2023 #16 Share Posted July 20, 2023 Well...as I clearly stated in post #2, I am not a golfer and know almost nothing about it. HOWEVER, Robin Williams has an absolutely hilarious bit on how golf was invented: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_S11eKcyOYY
Thrak Posted July 20, 2023 #17 Share Posted July 20, 2023 I am also not a golfer. I played on a 9 hole course once. That was it. I found I could drive pretty well but I don't think you are supposed to putt 187 times per hole. After that I had surgery on my neck. If I tried to play golf now I'd likely end up crippled. I could do pretty well at the 19th hole though... 😉 1

Thrak Posted July 20, 2023 #20 Share Posted July 20, 2023 It's pretty cool as all the best golfers in the world are there and the current leader is an amateur. (Okay, two others managed to tie him but he was the first to get to -5 and for an amateur to be leading the field after the first day is amazing.)
