LIVE: Quantum of the Seas. 8 - 28 - 2023 — 9 - 4 - 2023

GOOD MORNING

Today for us is technically travel day number one to prepare for our sailing in 3 days.

Went to be early to get a good night rest.

Ha!!!

Now a lot has happened in the overnight hours.

To begin with we were under a storm watch, that the house weather alarm signaled when it became a storm warning at 1 am.  Shortly there after the Tornado alarm sounded on our house phone as well as our cell phones.  Then the township alarm system was activated.

So the spouse went downstairs and turned on the TV and the weather man was live on one of our local stations.  He responded that the tornado sirens are alerting to a severe storm and high winds, and should actually not have been set off.

Yes we had intense winds for about 15 min.  Many in our local area are still without power.  We were fortunate.  No damage.

Elsewhere, trees down, power outages affecting many areas.

Hard to sleep when your on alert.

So, I started reading at 5 am. and got my day started early.

Today, we now have to wait till my brother gets here to house sit.  He has some cleanup to do after work nothing major, just tree limbs and debris from the winds he wants to clean up.

Then we are off to Cleveland to stay in a hotel close to the airport.  Have a relaxing dinner and set alarm for 3 am.

Get out of bed by 3:15

Shuttle to airport at 4:30

Now years ago when we booked our first RCI cruise we selected a Grand Suite and yes once you book one, you will probably stay with them as much as possible.

So now

We are flying United and a few years back we lucked out and got a free upgrade to first class.

(((((((BAM))))))))))

Yup, addicted to first class now, the airlines knew what they were doing.

Our flight leaves Cleveland to San Francisco then onto Seattle.

We will most likely end up at the Pikes Market and just chill once were in our hotel.

Sunday will either be doing the Museum of Flight again or the Aquarium.

Today, before we leave just organizing and anticipating the cruise.

Take care.

Travel Blog Pre Cruise to be active later today.

Be Safe

Those storms rolled thru SE Michigan earlier last night and left over 200K without power in the Detroit metro area.  We are good and we have a whole house generator, so our power doesn't seem to go out 🤣.  But people flying out of Detroit yesterday were not able to  because the roads were so flooded around the airport!  I am so thankful I flew home on Tuesday and it was all good.

So, I wish you all the best on your travel day and a fun time in Seattle before you get on Quantum!

We had a lot of the storm damage over here. Trees and limbs down everywhere in our neighborhood. Fortunately, none of my big trees came down.  When I got up at 1am, the weather app said winds were 40mph with gusts to 60mph, and heavy rain was blowing sideways.  Heard a tree come down, but couldn’t see where till daylight.

Strange, because we drove to our daughter’s house this morning, which is only 2 miles south of us.  Hardly even a leaf down at their place.

Safe travels and enjoy Alaska.

I agree about the whole house generator.

We had ours installed a few years back and since we have had it we have needed it a few times.

Mostly for power outages due to storms.

Except this week.

On Tuesday the electric company had to dig up and install a new power box and lines half way down our street.

No notices, no warnings.

Power off for 4 hours on our side of the street.

Which means generator on for 4 hours.

I was able to do the wash, iron and keep cool with air conditioner on.

Best move we ever made.

Be safe

@Lionesss I hope your journey is calm and relaxing. First Class is the way to go! It is smoky haze this morning in Seattle but I think you’ll still have a good view of Mt. Rainier as you fly in. Enjoy your stay and perhaps we’ll meet on-board.

This is our first time on the Quantum.  So we will be checking the ship out.  However if anyone sees a middle aged brown curly hair, green eyed girl with a purple back pack walking around on embarkation day stop and say "HI, are you Sue".

If not:

Casino........9pm.  I usually start the night off with a bottle of water and a can of diet coke.

Easy to find with all that alcohol being consumed by those who purchased the drink package, I'll be the exception to the rule.

Safe travels

@Lionesss Purple back pack! 9:00pm casino. We don’t check-in until 2:00 due to DH work schedule and dropping us at the terminal. I have hair appointment today so I my hair may be red or a combination of red and grey and blond! Glasses. I’ll be with a 10 year old, so I’ll probably not make it to the casino on Monday, but I’ll for sure be there at other times. I am Susan.

Pikes Market is a cool place to visit.  It would be a great place to pick up a bouquet 💐 to take on the cruise.

Also the Athenian Seafood Restaurant is good.  It is where Sleepless in Seattle was filmed.

We enjoyed the Aquarium.  Lots to see.  Have you considered Chihuly Garden and Glass.  It is a beautiful museum showing the glass artwork of Dale Chihuly.  If you have never tried it I believe you would love it.

We may all be there at the same time at some point.  My wife loves playing the slots.  I can put $20 in a machine, win $20 on the first pull, cash out, and be done.  Her response?  "What fun is that??"

I think our check-in time is 2:00 as well.  I'm going to put in some work in the morning and we'll head to the port after and park across the street.

Traditional photo op.

Two reasons.
In case one is missing easy to describe.
and

As the spouse would say makes wife happy.

Suitcases were packed, weighed, closed, hermetically banded and inspected by the lizard (Lizzy). (FYI. One suitcase weighed 47 pounds.  The other 50 pounds).

Now in case you may wonder why we are taking all these suitcases, well the answer is simple. We will be gone 11 days and packed for 14.
Having been to Alaska before we know what our purchases could be. We also left room.
And also the “Nurse Curse”. Packing for the whatever’s, the just in case you get a boo boos as well as some OTC meds.  Guess I should have been a Boy Scout. Or should I say back then a girls scout.
Plus. We have clothes for warm or cold weather.

Time to load the car.

Be safe.

Well. On our way.
it wouldn’t be the Ohio turnpike unless it was under construction.

Speed limit 50 mph. During lane restrictions.
Of course some take it as a suggestion.
And

Mr State Highway patrol man gladly got one of thee suggesteees and darn fines doubled in construction zone. He had to be doing 70+++.
I behaved and did 52 mph.

@Husky1987 I am hoping a 2:00 check-in will mean the majority of people are already on-board. The hair is done @Lionesss and I’m blond and red streaks! DH says it will take some time to get used to and the grandsons won’t recognize me. @Husky1987 did you graduate in 1987? DH has link to U-Dub but I can’t post it here. This is my first RCI cruise, so I don’t know how large the casino is. I hope we meet up!

Arrived at Crowne Plaza awhile ago. Chilling for a little bit and ate in their restaurant.

We both had a Caesar salad and Chicken parmigiana.
Very filling and large portion.

Pro tip:  While everyone else is waiting in line at the original Starbucks across the street from Pike Place Market, drop by a little Eastern European bakery a couple doors down called Piroshky Piroshky.  One of my favorite places to eat on the face of the Earth.  The Cinnamon Cardamom Braid and Apple Cinnamon Roll are to die for.
