You can buy per day; the cost depends on which level you get. If these rates are still current, daily rates are $14.99, $24.99 and $29.99. Looks like for email, you would need the $24.99/day plan.

Safe travels  - enjoy your cruise!

There is no more Social Plan, at least on ships with the new system (which name escapes me). Only Surf and Premium. Premium includes Audio and Video apps, Surf does not.

Crystal the premium os quite expensive .All we wanted was the ability to cancel e-mails & perhaps forward some of them .  Ay that $34.95 per day rate we will just forget the internet & handle cancellating e-mails when we get home .  I ask friends & relatives not to send any w0mails while wexzare away . however ,the junk mails are so numerous these days ,on our 18 day Hawaii cruise ,I will come hoome to  approc 800 ji=unk e-mails .  .We think most people are getting these afbertising type e-mails  becuae our e,mail adress gets sold & so does every ones e-mail address

when you add yjr e-mail cost into the Havitall with ppf gratuities it makes sense to have the pkg ig a person uses the e-mail part of the phm .jpwever ,that also takes awayfun time on the ship . so I yjonk we will just pass on e-mail  .Because we are not alcohol drinkers m the Hace Itall plan does bot work for us  .Ocassionally ,I like a soda & pay for  it  .My DW is a tea drinker ,sje loves ice rea with lots of lemon  . If we do want a dlass of wine at dinner ,we will buy it  & that also would be very seldom if at all . We never use gard liquor

Cliff, you can do that on the Surf plan. You would only need one plan between you (unlike the HIA that must be bought for both). Don't have to do it ahead if not buying Premium for whole trip, just ask where is internet desk on the first day after your muster "drill" is accomplished. Ask about a day here a day there instead of the whole cruise.

Yes I do understand that we can buy one day . I think at this point intime ,I will leave all the tech studd behind . We have our cell phines if in a emergency  . I was cancelling out e-mails & answering e-mails on cruises we took in March & we got the internet free .It was 2  Celebrity cruises from San Pedrp . We hqve free stuff from the casino deals . Seemed ro me I spent far too much time on a computer .so ,we decided that leave the tech stuff off the ship & enjoy the cruise

Somewhere I read here that the difference between Surf and Stream  was not speed, but that Surf had a number of sites blocked.  Is that right?

If so, are little videos embedded in news stories blocked?  Is YouTube blocked?

And if you want to upgrade from the HIA internet to the Stream package is it just $5/day or is there a more involved opaque formula?

Thanks.

I know they are. On my last cruise I liked to clear out my mail daily, trashing the junk mail, and reading what I enjoy before trashing.
Anyway, some of the things I do enjoy have news clips in them. I could open the mail, read the text, but could not get anything when I tried to access a clip or two.

You can also make use of free internet on port days. Clean out what trash you're able - better than coming home to all of it.

Remember that Hawaii is in the USA, so your San Diego cell phone plan works there. 🏝️🌺🐠

Have a great trip!

Do you actually get cell service during the 5 sea days from San Diego to Hawaii?

No, not at sea unless using something like Cellular at Sea.  It would cost a fortune!

I was referring to the OP using his cell phone off the ship while in ports in Hawaii.  He does not want to get a WiFi package on board.

If your phone supports it and you are connected to the WiFi on board, you can do WiFi calling.  Others can explain how all that works if you are not familiar.

Are there still less-expensive WiFi options that cover the full sailing?  And, is it less expensive to purchase the WiFi before the sailing?

As far as I know, you can only purchase Premium (not Surf) before sailing. When there were three levels, pre-purchasing Premium made it just a little more than Surf. You can purchase either on board, but I don't know the prices for the whole cruise length.

I have three 35-day bookings. One with standard HIA, one with Premium HIA, and one with no HIA (yet). All three show Premium available to purchase for the whole trip (under Packages) -- for $395.99, or $11.31/day. Far less than the $35/day shown in the link I embedded above!

I have heard you can upgrade the Surf plan to the Premium onboard, for either $5/day or $10/day. But have not done so. My February cruise has the Surf plan; I will try to remember to check what the upgrade would be!

That's what I thought.  But if you did get cell service at sea, you could use your phone as a hotspot and provide your own wifi that way.  Obviously not a practical solution.

Couple of other data points for premium internet pre-purchases for shorter sailings.

7- day: $128 - $18.29/day

10-day: $168 - $16.80/day

16 day $207.99 = $13/day from an upcoming Nov cruise.

Surf is now only available with their Have it All fare. I'm looking for a price for the most basic plan (now Premium) for 28 days.

We're currently on a 31 night cruise with Have it All and we're looking at a 28 night cruise without it. On the Navigator app, we're seeing 30 days for $100 but don't know if or how we'll be able to access that.

Roger @Crew News has researched the new prices for Premium and $tream (Surf is only available as part of HIA now).

I don't know what you are seeing on Navigator, because $100 doesn't touch 30 days! But you do save 20% if you buy before sailing (several days before sailing btw).

ETA, oh I found it. If you have Surf as part of HIA, it is $100 to upgrade to premium for 26-31 days.

I've just found that as well - the $100 is to upgrade. Thanks for the chart. Looks like it would be $440 for us. We would just get a one device plan and share it between us. Even with a wine package each, it's drastically cheaper that HIA.
