Starlink has no affect on the WiFi inside the ship which is the issue in the theater. We tried to use it almost every night on the TA - we could never get it to work reliably. Folks sailing Jewel are very lucky in that she is one of few ships on which the speeds have not been throttled to the usual 4Mbps and can be over 100Mbps.

I’ve hit close to 100 Mbps on deck 12.  And down 5Mbps in my room.  The thing is, I’ve hit 30 in my room earlier in the cruise.

Ok; no pressure but it was British  🇬🇧 night menu in the MDR. With an Exec head chef from Leeds… could this man make a proper Yorkshire pudding…??  And a prawn cocktail with rosemarie sauce ( not the fluorescent red stuff they serve usually )!
He did not disappoint

ps: yes I know he does t really cook it but he oversees operations

And now to the silent disco 💃

Yes I have been drinking. Sorry.

+1

Pleased to hear it although I don’t know how much individual input the chefs are allowed.

Is it me or does his poster not look like him at all?

Anyways, his show was ridiculous and unexpected.  They just said he was an impressionist and thats it.  It was not what i expected, but then again, I had no real expectations.  I would say he was edgy because his act could have gone off the rails, but didn’t.  I should note that I had more fun then i expected for not knowing what to expect.  Thats a good thing.

We've seen him.  His show was pretty good.

We saw him once, years ago and thought he was very good.  It’s a shame cruiselines are going away from highlighting good entertainment.  That is why we used to cruise.

So am I

We've never done it, but to me it just seems strange.  Probably funny to watch, but otherwise, especially now as I can't really dance due to a knee issue, we don't go to any dance parties anymore.  Sucks that at 63 and previously very active I can't participate.

Wifi has been good around the ship EXCEPT the theatre. Don't bother. We got lucky and have decent service in our cabin this time.

On the TA this past April I had an "add on" interior cabin right next to the centrum. While it was close to everything, I swear it was covered in lead. The only wifi service was next to the cabin door. This "old" room midship on deck 4 has been great.

The HD, Angel (who is great), commented that she should get a full wifi revamp in April on her dry dock. Jewel has still been MUCH better than Radiance (complete disaster for wifi in January) and Grandeur (old girl who needs new access points)....so compared, even with the complaining, she's been awesome!

(And yes, NOT CAPPED, WOOHOO!)

Good Morning from St. John’s Newfoundland, not to be confused (but often is) with St. John New Brunswick.

I neglected last night’s dinner as we rushed to the Silent party last night.

Menu

IMG_8780.thumb.jpeg.050f6998f7248ea945d77fed573a7eb6.jpeg

“Goat Cheese” Tart.  I put that in quotes because the goat cheese garnish was all the goat cheese in this named dish.IMG_8781.thumb.jpeg.a958304e300c2568591d7d1be6aa1e41.jpeg

Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding.  I admit i forgot what Yorkshire pudding was and was surprised again.

Chicken Tikki Masala

We’ve been Screeched!! A great ceremony…at Christian’s for CAD$65 for 2 ( RCI were charging a lot more!). Ours was arranged via the other rollcall.

I’ve kissed a frozen fish, drank some very strong rum and learned some Newfoundland phrases.. all before noon!

There wasn’t enough time to really enjoy St. John.

A lot of places don’t open until 10, 11

or even later.

Saw some interesting things along Water St.

We got stuffed animals for the grandkids.  Stopped for coffee until this place

opened up.

POUTINE!!!

IMG_8800.thumb.jpeg.47fedfb994810dcd029ca89978830e4e.jpeg

Then we got screeched in.

Yeah, the shot hit me hard.  But i made it to the liquor store to buy a bottle of the stuff.  The place could not sell it so we had to go to a liquor store.

Everyone’s onboard.  We are off.

Not that it matters if the person is not there but the hours are listed in the app: Click the ship icon -> Services -> Internet Assistance. Yes, the guy is clueless.

Seems that it is the same guy who was there during the British Isles cruise in August.  I overheard him “helping” two guests while I was using a desktop.

I know from watching Jordan Bauth's videos that crew members sign up to work Voom to get internet access minutes. What you get is quite probably not an actual IT person.

So the crew members sign-up knowing that they do not know what they are doing  and suffer the abuse in order to get internet access.

Somehow this seems very much like the American worker experience.

I understand so much more about why the Voom experience seems more like the Sloth experience.

This is why I like to disconnect from the technical experience while on vacation.

Trying to make the Internet connection work seems like going back to the office!

🤣

Used the 2nd of our pre purchase BOGO last night at Giovannis.

Restaurant was 1/4 full if that.

Starters and pasta were excellent but the mains were very disappointing. The Osso Bucco (x3) was a lump of flat bone with a few pieces of meat, and not the large upright presentation we are used to: the fillet was dry, served with mash and one small piece of broccoli 🥦

It was underwhelming and we will be cancelling our reservation for there next cruise.
We got presented with a $0 cheque.

We actually went to a show!! Our 2nd of the cruise to see the Adult comic. He wasn’t.
Closed out Vintages.
Clocks back another 30 mins last night.

Dinner menu.

IMG_8819.thumb.jpeg.81f84ff1ab575d5abf0be35dcf48271e.jpeg

Spring roll?  It was at least better than last night’s.

IMG_8820.thumb.jpeg.4f0050435204b0cc3c1bf911fc43a1e8.jpeg

Spinach and artichoke dip.  It looked sad but it was fine.

IMG_8821.thumb.jpeg.78ef8605d3ee98ad4d892d2bca5c9f6b.jpeg

Mulligatawny soup.  Pretty much chicken soup.

IMG_8822.thumb.jpeg.22bb88a0a7a1c9975eeb57f2e95fdf4e.jpeg

Beef duo.  There was a hidden duo that was a dry lump.  The visible one was tasty.

IMG_8823.thumb.jpeg.fa89bbac6df826345762649f7459e628.jpeg

Boston Cream pie.

IMG_8824.thumb.jpeg.4436b219ab644ca12477a28f0fc94779.jpeg

Coconut rice pudding.

IMG_8825.thumb.jpeg.5fd49409a6485ac4f5d585cdcf8416ca.jpeg

After dinner, we made the adult comic.

This guy was an absolute minimalist.  He barely moved on the stage.  He really was funny for what he did.  He told quick one liner jokes and his theme was pretty much stupid people.  He actually resonated with me which was probably why i thought he was funny.
