Updates from the Grand Princess 2023 relocation cruise

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow Saturday (23rd September 2023) we board the Grand Princess in Vancouver, Canada to bring her back down-under 🙂.

Internet access permitting (I hope it will be better then the Majestic Princess!, last year (2022) when we did her relocation cruise back to Australia/ New Zealand) I am going to try and give some updates on our journey from Vancouver, Canada to Auckland, New Zealand.

We disembark the Grand Princess on the 17th October 2022 in New Zealand.

Thanks for that, we board in Adelaide 26th October. Sailed on the Grand in March and loved it but would like to hear if they have improved the lunch buffet salad bar. They only had the same two choices of cold meat every day. Not really a problem as there was also hot meats, Also a lot of Indian vegan food, not to our likes .Still plenty to choose from.

I hope you are having an awesome time Stu, and that it is nice to be back at sea again.

AIS shows you cruising into a 21m/s gale in 4.7m seas. Seems to be a bit more exciting than usual for that part of the world, and no wonder they wanted to skip Victoria to take it slow. Hopefully it will be a bit calmer in the Golden Gate.

A couple of ships have snuck away towards Australasia. Luminosa skipped their 3x Alaskan days to dodge a storm, and have made it to Japan early, spending the day in the alternate stop of Sapporo (Otaru). Brilliance of the Seas has just departed Vancouver for a direct run to Hawaii.

Hello from the Grand Princess,

We are currently rocking and rolling our way to San Francisco, California.

We are currently experiencing 50 - 60knts! of wind and 4 meter seas! It has been hitting our bow.

She has been handing it well.

Since I wrote the above before dinner……, after dinner I was walking along deck 7 past the photo gallery when I noticed that a window had broken! 😮 , apparently it broke with the movement off the ship?. Any way the ship crew did a temp fix on the window and clean up the glass.

It will be interesting to see how long it will be before they get a new pane of glass!, I am guessing her next dry dock!

A day job on a port day. Lazy if they leave it any longer than Honolulu to fix.

Good Morning Stu.

Grand's cam is pretty ordinary, so I won't put up the row of white dots as you were approaching the Golden Gate bridge. Really late sunrise at around 7am in SF.

Hello from the Grand Princess,

Today we where in San Francisco, CA.

We had a nice day ashore, we just had a walk along the waterfront and had a look around Fisherman's Wharf

We had a very early back on board off 3:30pm, so that limited what we could do.

Hello from the Grand Princess,

Tonight we have arrived in the Port of Los Angeles for a "Service Call" so we get get the ships bottom cleaned ready for her to cruise around New Zealand this summer.

Tomorrow we move out to anchor in Los Angeles harbour so they can keep cleaning the underside of the ship.

Hello from the Grand Princess,

Thanks for the updates.

A couple of non-urgent questions please as you head south.

1. I assume the promenade deck has chairs as opposed to loungers.

If so, are there just a few chairs or numerous ?

Are they padded ?

2. I don't know if this repo is under US or Aus rules.

If smoking is allowed inside IE: Casino; is the smell noticeable much around that area ?

3. Are there many people utilising One5 lounge in the early afternoon... ie around 2pm ?

According to my weather chart the seas look OK for your passage over the next few days.
