Japanese Teppanyaki Restaurant, Irish Pub, and Mouthwatering Concepts from Celebrity Chefs Among New Sensational Options Aboard First Sphere Class Ship

SANTA CLARITA, Calif., Sept. 27, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- When Sun Princess debuts early next year, the incredible, next-gen ship from Princess Cruises will elevate the culinary excellence at sea with an unparalleled array of dining sensations catering to every palate and desire, including exciting concepts from world-renowned chef, Rudi Sodamin, and a celebrity chef to be announced soon.

 The Promenade

Delectable dishes are found throughout the magnificent new ship, with an astonishing selection of 29 new and signature dining and lounge options, offering everything from savory journeys and entertaining eats to sumptuous sips and satisfying snacks.

"Outstanding food and drink at exceptional value are a cornerstone of the Princess experience. Sun Princess elevates the entire portfolio of offers and wraps them in restaurants, bars and sundecks that reveal stunning views, ocean vistas and sunshine, ice and wildlife," said John Padgett, Princess Cruises president. "Our chefs will serve up vibrant flavors, pour perfectly crafted cocktails and provide personalized service that is second to none."

Guests aboard the latest Love Boat will indulge in an array of tempting new dining experiences, ranging from the captivating theater of Japanese Teppanyaki at Umai Teppanyaki, where world-class cuisine intertwines with captivating performance, and the innovative O'Malley's Irish Pub, reimagining the classic Irish pub concept with a refreshing twist, to a seafood nirvana at The Catch by Rudi from award-winning chef Rudi Sodamin. Meanwhile, The Promenade introduces a fresh perspective, serving up delightful slices of Promendade Slice pizza, gourmet burgers, flavorful hot dogs, freshly baked bagels, and a tempting selection of ice cream. (Renders of newly announced venues can be found here).

While the new additions promise novelty, timeless favorites aboard the ship remain a staple of the Princess dining experience. From the refined elegance of the Crown Grill and the irresistible charm of Sabatini's, to the delightful authenticity of Alfredo's Pizzeria, the artful creations at Kai Sushi, the classic tunes at Crooners, the warm ambiance of the Wheelhouse Bar, and the engaging performances at Princess Live! – these favorites continue to complement the dining tapestry that Sun Princess so artfully weaves for its guests.

The ship's multiple dining decks offer something for everyone beginning with breakfast and continuing through late-night snack time. Ethnic eats range from Mexican to Mongolian, and cruisers can enjoy coffee concoctions, frozen treats, sushi specials, artisanal pizza, tangy barbecue, deluxe burgers and hot dogs. Vegetarian and plant-based meals give all diners plenty of options.

The Horizons Dining Room elevates the traditional main dining experience with stunning wake views and natural light that highlight a decorative sculpture, stretching from deck 6 to deck 8. A first minor point is it seems odd to me to use a name that has been previously associated with buffet venues.

But check out the second sentence.  Is this the class system coming to the MDR?  Does it mean there will be better, more upscale dishes if one is dressed in a suit and tie versus smart casual?  Perhaps it just means something several posters have suggested...  one level on a FN will be for those formally dressed per the clothing recommendations and the smart casuals will be on the other two levels with no change in menu.  One would hope so, but who knows and Princess marketing can be loose with wording and not into the specifics.

I was very surprised to see that too.  As one of their new concept restaurants, I would have thought it would be a fixture on the new ships. 🤷‍♂️

@Guindalf, I enjoyed your recent review of the Discovery Princess cruise which included the pre-arranged 360 dinner.  You mentioned that you were asked not to give details away, but are you at least able to shed some light for curious future passengers as to where the 360 Experience takes place?

They carved out a section within Sabatini's.  Presumably, they could setup a specific place for it on a new build, but I have no idea.

and no Vines, so far? - Is Princess phasing out wines in favor of mixed drinks?

I think this will be akin to Canaletto on the HAL ships where a section of the Lido will become Catch By Rudi in the evenings but be used for buffet seating during the day.  It will most likely have a different décor scheme than the rest of the Lido Marketplace but but be a true stand-alone venue.  Think Sterling Steakhouse on Diamond/Sapphire for similar concepts currently with Princess

I was hoping that the information provided in the Press Release Princess issued November 7, 2022 that read, "With two seatings nightly, the cloaked venue accommodates 20 guests surrounded by LED walls in a circular format that places guests into featured destinations using stunning 4K cinematography" wasn't a veiled reference to the curtained-off section of the Horizon Court exactly as you mentioned on Diamond and Sapphire.  I don't know how far along in the planning process the development team was with the Sphere Class designs, but as @Steelers36 mentioned above, maybe the 360 Experience will have its own dedicated venue.

The above sounds interesting to me - a part of the Horizons Dining Room staffed all day long. This sounds a bit like the wonderful Quays on P&O Iona but with a table service.

I dislike when they do that. I can understand if they want to upgrade older ship with new concept and they don’t have the room but on a new built that is a BIG mistake.

Princess has no clue what they are doing right know they are lost and trying stuff that has been done in the past. The product they have is going downwards. It’s sad too see.

Catch by Rudi was announced within the last 6 months +/-  It was an easy retrofit for Sky, Enchanted, Discovery (only ships featuring it at the moment) as Bistro Sur La Mer was going away. It has done well thus far and Princess want to capitalize on that.

The specs for Sun were set far before this concept was implemented, and Sun was not scheduled to have the Bistro so most likely the only option is to make it a pop up.

@dides It does sound interesting, especially the "range in levels of formality."  🤷‍♂️

I think the range of levels of dining choices would possibly be a choice of dining style such as quick in and out service, a more relaxed service and a fine dining service so guests can have a choice of how long to spend on dining.

You may be right, avonlady.  And then I wonder if someone at PCL is being a devil and used the word formality in the description thinking it might set off a huge debate among guests on social media sites wondering if they are going to divide guests according to attire.

Perhaps it just has to do with how formal the dining is - from casual noshing or grab-and-go, to sit-down dining with tablecloths and suitable dishware and glassware.  But they are never quite clear with their marketing lingo.

That's how I interpret the press release about MDR dining not so much what people are wearing but the level of service it would be easier on servers if they had their stations all the same type of service and having the more experienced servers working the fine dining area.  It would definitely help with families with young children to be in and out quicker.

That's how I interpret the press release about MDR dining not so much what people are wearing but the level of service it would be easier on servers if they had their stations all the same type of service and having the more experienced servers working the fine dining area.  It would definitely help with families with young children to be in and out quicker.

When we were on the Norwegian Spirit (not sure about their other ships) they had exactly this setup for exactly this reason. It was a port intensive Mediterranean itinerary (11 in 12 nights, I think) and a lot of people just wanted to go from sightseeing directly to dinner. The casual restaurant featured the same menus as the dining room.
