Is Soda Package worth it?

Recommended Posts

There are many included drink that can be had at no cost onboard. These include coffees, teas,  water included flavored ones and juices. The soda package is just another of RCI rip offs. I boarded my recent 11 nights Anthem cruise with a six pack of small, 710ml bottles of Coca Cola Max and wife and I only used 4 while on board.

I’m teetotal so will only having soft drinks on board.

Do you think the soda package is worth it and have you found it cost effective?

Do the math.  Cost of soda x how many you will drink a day vs coat of package. Also take into account valley the added catowties fie ships ygat have the Freestyle machines.  Everones answers will be different.

How much does it cost?  Hard to answer without that information.

Even at $9.99, which it has been for our fall cruise on Wonder since we booked, I find it more than worth it. I'll easily exceed that, even on port days. The refreshment package, on the other hand, I find to be way overpriced. The cheapest I've seen it so far has been $29.99; currently at $33.99. I don't drink coffee, could not care less about fresh squeezed juice, and won't drink enough mocktails or bottles of water to make it worthwhile. If it came down to $20, then maybe.

People be saying there are many free drinks. That is good for people that don’t drink sodas but if you are a soda drinker and like them with meals, during the day, in your room, on Coco Cay, at the shows then it could very well be worth it for you. Keep in mind that all classes of ships don’t have soda freestyle machines and you will be limited to what you can get on those particular ships.

For me YES. I drink soda the way other people drink coffee ,wine or water lol. I wake up get soda , have lunch...soda...dinner...soda...through out the day...soda. More specifically Coke Zero.

So to me it's totally worth it.

Soda runs about $4 a can with tip.  Soda package gives you soda from a gun (and/or Freestyle machine on ships that have them) unless the guns are not working.  Then they usually pour from 2 liter bottles.  For us it is worth it but we would not buy the refreshment package.  Princess raised their soda price to $20 and we don't buy that either.  But they also sell six packs precruise for $12 and this is cheaper than their bar price.  Haven't looked lately at Royal's price precruise.  Do the math based on your use.

On ships with Freestyle machines, I say yes.  The variety of sodas offered (when they’re working properly) beats what you are offered at the bars or restaurants.  Plus the cups with lids are better by the pool instead of an open cup. I also try to time package purchase when it’s slightly on sale, which is rare.

I frequently buy the soda package and I always get a full can of soda at any bar when I request one. I think the soda package is a good deal to supplement the 5 drinks I get as a D+ and free drinks in the casino for being Prime.

If you drink soda anyways, and would be buying cans, or fountain pours at the bars - then 100% get the soda package.  2 or 3 sodas a day and it's paid for itself.  The variety on the freestyle machines is amazing - but again, is only a factor if you are a soda drinker.

For myself, I also factor in how many sea days vs port days there are - port days means I won't use the soda package near as much.

It was $15/day for our cruise last week on Freedom, and I thought it was worth it.  I easily had enough sodas daily from the Freestyle machines to make it worth it.   Of course, it also included Powerade, etc. from the machines as well as sodas.

I believe you are allowed to bring 12 cans of soda onboard.  Would that be enough for you?

When on vacation, I am not interested in carrying soda/water on board to save a few dollars.  I figure I can spring for the few dollars.
