AARP gift cards: Max redemption per day?

I was reading on another forum; for the sister gift cards (carnival) that there is a max redemption limit of $2000.

ie: if I charge $2000 to my room in one day, and go to the kiosk later that night and “add funds”, it will allow me to “true up” $2000 a day.

Now, on Princess there is no kiosk to do this self-service, so it would be 100% done by guest services.

Anyone have any ideas? Heck; there may not even BE a limit per day using guest services

I'm not sure I follow exactly what it is you're asking about.  When purchasing AARP cards, they have a max limit of 5 cards per month, regardless of the card face value and where you are performing the purchase.  Princess is NOT going to sell you GCs via AARP.  You have to do that on your own.   You seem to be asking about purchasing cards while on board?  I would NEVER do that...if you feel you need those cards...get it done BEFORE you get on the ship so you can print out the card/pin information.  You're going to need that hardcopy; previous posters here on CC have stated that GS will not honor a gift card if you don't have the hardcopy.

 

I don't think Princess cares about how many cards you use.  You *should* be able to use as many cards as you like.  But then again...I have to ask the question "Why use gift cards on board for your fare?"  I have used GCs MANY times, but always *prior* to the cruise.  What in the world are you buying on board for $2000?

Still don't follow what you're getting at.  AARP Princess GCs are always at 8% discount (used to be 10%).  How/when you buy them makes no difference..

I assume you *do* realize that Princess has *no* connection to a gift card purchase made through AARP...other than being the "original source" of the card?

im on board the sky princess; I have “gambled” $6000 against my folio (aka: I OWE $6000 to princess right now).

If I go to the guest services desk and say “I’d like to apply these $6000 worth of gift cards to my folio, to zero it out”

Will they say no??? A limit per day…

Princess has a max on the total amount of onboard credit that can be on a stateroom account.

Yes, it zeroes out.

The gift cards cancel out the debt. I’m unaware of a limit.

I can't imagine them saying no...as far as they are concerned, a GC is the same as cash.

If you're on the Sky why not just go to Guest Services and ask them?

Personally, I only buy the AARP GCs to apply directly to a booked cruise as payment.  I have never taken any with me on board, though we've heard of some here on CC that do this quite often.  Maybe not $6000 worth...I imagine the casino department would *love* to see your smiling face!

I recently paid for 63 days of cruising using nothing but Princess gift cards I purchased through AARP. Definitely much more than $6k.

I once went to guest services and added $7,500 worth of gift cards to my account. Of course the account was already "in the hole" from playing too much bingo so we ended up with a net balance of around $700.

I think you have it now.  The OP was asking about redeeming GC's on board - not about purchasing rules by AARP.  

 

I believe there will be a limit to amount of purchasing OBC with a GC, but not a limit when using a GC to pay off balance owing on stateroom account.

The OP is simply looking for a way to fund his gambling at a discount. If one can gamble $6,000 for a cost of only $5,220 due to a discount on the gift cards it's a wiser strategy than using the full amount. He would start out essentially $480 "ahead" from the beginning.

 I think they were asking about applying gift cards onboard for OBC...not paying for the cruise.

I used $5000 to pay for the major portion of a cruise in January 2024.  Unfortunately, I had to cancel the cruise.  I then used $2000 for a cruise in April, leaving me a balance of $3000.  I plan on cashing these in at guest services.

 

I think the $1500 OBC per cabin limit someone mentioned was for purchasing OBC through the personalizer.
