Excursion Availability

Recommended Posts

Do they hold back excursion availability for booking on board?  I just booked a port intensive cruise for next month and am having trouble booking excursions.  Some of them are only available in languages other than English.  Trying to figure out what to do.

Find to the port of call boards and find private excursions.

And check your roll call to see if any are booking private excursions and looking for others to join.

Thanks.  I am traveling solo and am uncomfortable going private - I don't want to get stuck somewhere alone if anything goes wrong.

They never hold back spots for onboard booking. If a shore excursion is sold out, it is sold out (can't install additional seats on a bus).

There is a potential that someone will cancel and the shore ex will appear pre-cruise on the website. Onboard, you can ask to stand-by for a shore excursion in case someone no shows for the cruise or cancels onboard, but that is normally very small possibility.

The best advice is to find your second choice excursion and confirm that booking.

They may not be able to add seats to a bus, but sometimes the Shorex staff can communicate with the local tour provider to schedule an additional bus or to swap out a larger bus for a smaller one than they had planned to use.  Out of 40+ cruises and more than 100 excursions that we planned to book through the cruise line, we have booked fewer than a dozen in advance.  When we waited until we were on board before booking, sometimes we were put on a wait list before being confirmed, but we only have been shut out of our preferred choice twice.  We were able each of those times to book an acceptable alternate tour.  If there is a bucket list tour on your itinerary, book it as soon as possible.  If you are flexible and would be happy with any of several tours that are offered, however, you should be fine waiting until you are on board before booking.

Sometimes.

Never. Anything extra available onboard is due to cancellations or, in rare cases, the tour company is able to add another bus at the last minute.
