The Fleet Report and Daily for Thursday May 16th, 2024

Recommended Posts

It’s still gray in north Jersey, 50/60s. Not hot! We’re in a week of intermittent showers.

Last night after supper we got online and bought tickets to a Beethoven symphony in Newark at the NJ Preforming Arts Center for this Saturday afternoon!  And tickets for My Fair Lady at a playhouse in the Poconos mid-June. New venues for us!  Each about an hour away. We’ll keep doing these things while we can!  Of course that meant new processes for buying tickets (and parking in Newark) which all took almost 2hours to sort through but we did it!  And we bought tickets for 2 presentations on-campus, one tonight, a resident talent show. Fun stuff. We’ll figure out eye drops etc and keep living!  First today we have a zoom meeting with a NJ lawyer to get started on a review of our trust and power of attorney docs, then a church service and a supper take-out so we can make the show tonight. It’ll be a full day. A good day!

Granddaughter had a tough week with a very painful kidney stone, but passed it yesterday!  She and her DH are flying red-eye to CA tonight for a wedding this weekend. Then a red-eye back in a few days. Youthful energy!  Hoping she has no more acute issues.

Gentle hugs and blessings to you all!  Thinking of Annie and Chuck, Vanessa and BFF, Jacqui, Pennie, Elizabeth, Terry and Tana, Terri and Jim, Gerry and Maurice, Jane, Melissa…. And many, many thanks for being here with us throughout.  Sandi and Nancy your good wishes are always a lift!  I feel strengthened by our connections.
Graham, I love the feel of the sea fret!

🎂 Bruce and Sue, a grand day to you celebrating your anniversary 🥂 aboard Onward!  32 is the number we’re coming up on also!  Never enough anniversaries!

Let’s celebrate Living in Peace!  The ultimate desire for the world and for each of us.

Thanks to Rich and all the contributors for your dedication.  What a wonder-filled niche you create each day!

My hope is that everyone can find something to enjoy today. Life is Good🌈. All of the accomplishments shared here spread hope!  The port photos, the beautiful flowers, sunsets and cruise memories, the humor and memes are each a ray of sunshine. 🌞💝

Maureen

I found these columbines on a walk recently. Reminders if the Colorado high country meadows here in NJ!  Surprise!

Good morning from a mainly cloudy central Texas.  It is 71F with a predicted high of 75F about 11am.  The predicted severe thunderstorms will arrive about 1pm, if the forecast holds, and they will last until about 8pm.  When the rain begins we'll drop back into the upper 60s.  If I want to get anything done outside, I better get it done this morning.

Three good days to honor today.  I hope someday people will learn to live in peace.

Another good George Carlin quote.

We'll skip the meal and the drink.  I would love to try the wine.

We were in Inchon on Coral Princess in 2018, along with Ray @USN59-79 and his wife.  Unfortunately, we did not meet on the cruise.

The 1920 canonization of Joan of Arc was a good day for her.

@dfish  Debbie, I hope the soreness wears off soon.  Could you share a picture of the deck and new furniture when it's finished?

@aliaschief  Bruce, thanks for the pictures of the progressive dinner.  It looks like the crew out did them selves, and they were having a good time too. I loved some of the costumes the crew were wearing.

@RMLincoln  Maureen, it looks like you are settling into your new home nicely, and finding things to do in your new area.  I also hope your DH's eye continues to drain and the pressure settles in the normal range.  I'm glad your DGD passed the kidney stone.  I hope she is feeling good for their trip.

Happy May Hump Day.  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Ann, and Dixie.

Three very good days to celebrate.  I have not cruised to Korea but had a couple days stopover in Seoul on the way to Bali in 2014.  A great day in religious history.

I’ll pass on the meal.  My alternative is Chilled Blueberry Soup, Grilled Herb Strip Loin Steak, and Pistachio Ice Cream as served on MS Veendam May 16, 2016.

Not the best of starts to the morning , On heading out to my walk I skinned my hand and got a huge gash that required about 20 minutes for bleeding control.  Started out chilly but will rise to almost 80 this afternoon.

Well lovely - my post disappeared. Take 2...

Currently 72° headed to a wet 75°. It's spittering now w/rains expected to arrive around 11, so I should be driving in it going to/from eye dr for today's procedure - oh joy. 🙄 nothing more fun than driving in a rainstorm during a flood watch, unless maybe a tornado 🌪 watch; thank goodness we don't have that today.

Stars 🏒lost, Mavericks🏀 won last night so we go to game 6 in both series.

Prayers 🙏 and positive thoughts for all.

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Elders should be honoured every day, no matter who they are or who they love.  Definitely appreciate light and living in peace.

It's a foggy time out there for us this morning; maybe it had something to do with the rains that came late yesterday evening.  At first I thought it was smoke from the forest fires, but when I opened the door to get the paper, realized it was fog.  And, I just heard on the radio that a couple of moose have been spotted about a mile from here and that police and animal control are trying to direct them to the river - I wonder if we'll see them in the park at the end of our block when they finally decide to follow the river northward?

@aliaschief and @DWAliaschiefwishing you a very Happy 32nd Anniversary; let the love and laughter continue!  What a memorable way to spend your anniversary - thanks so much for the photos, I'm totally enjoying your voyage.

I've got a couple of things to do today - heading out on the stepladder to clear off the winter spruce needle drop from the shed at the end of our deck, and while I'm on the ladder, will clean out a portion of our neighbour's gutter that looks full of needles as well.  Looking at the branches, I'm thinking we might have to hire someone to clip some of the overhanging branches or they'll start interfering with the neighbour's shingles.

I'd like to try the drink of the day (vodka and cranberry juice always go nicely together), say yes to the wine, and we've had Mizuna in salads when we were in Japan - it's a nice change from regular lettuce, but I haven't seen it around here.   The other day I bought a couple of packages of barbecue pork button bones that will be cooked in the oven and served along with baked potatoes and green beans at the kitchen table tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, in pain, in grief, in turmoil, and in the paths of destructive storms and fires.  Cheers to all with celebrations happening.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Oh geez - I think the need for bubble wrap continues.🫣 Hope it heals quickly w/no complications.

DH frequently comes home with rather large dried blood "trails" and says he wasn't aware he'd done anything when I point them out. I'm sure it's a consequence of the blood thinner he now takes.

We were in Inchon, South Korea, on October 16, 2018, as part of the Coral Princess circle the northern Pacific cruise.  We opted for a tour to the DMZ and Tunnel #3, with lunch and a stop in Inchon in the afternoon.

I will divide my pictures into two posts, and we'll start with our stop in the DMZ.  We had to show our passports to the UN guards when we entered and exited the DMZ.

DSC04521.thumb.JPG.6eb77df3cc06a16069763e2833706bf3.JPG

The first stop was the bridge that goes into North Korea.  It is the bridge the crew from the Pueblo walked across after they were released by North Korea.  There were several monuments, but as you can see, they are all in Korean.

Our next stop was the complex that housed Tunnel #3, that the North Koreans dug to infiltrate SK.  There are four Tunnels of Aggression, and #3 was discovered in 1978 before it was completed.  The tour was supposed to take a little train down into the tunnel, but our guide said we had to walk to the tunnel. It was a very steep incline to reach the tunnel level,  We walked part way into the tunnel which has a very low ceiling.  We were glad they gave us hardhats because we kept hitting the very rough, rocky ceiling.  The climb back up to the visitor center was hard, and we were glad they had benches where we could sit and rest as we climbed.  I thought I'd taken pictures in the tunnel, but I can't find them.  This is a sculpture at the visitor center.

We also stopped at a place were we could look into North Korea.

Our final stop in the DMZ was the Dorasan Railroad station, the last station in South Korea.

Once we left the DMZ, we headed to Inchon for a Korean barbecue lunch.  After lunch, we stopped at a market in Inchon where we had free time to wander around.

The restaurant where we had a very good meal.

Thank you Tina. Your post brought a tear to my eyes. I had a beloved aunt who had to hide her relationship all her life and even as a young person I was aware of how much harder life was for her. Love is love.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily.

3 good days to think about. Funny quote. I'll pass on the meal and the drink and yes to the wine. I haven't been to Incheon. A good day in history.

It's cloudy here, 69F, with 76% humidity. I think there's supposed to be sun later. I guess I was tired yesterday. I slept until about 6am, posted the Cares List, then fell back asleep until 8:30! I intend to not do much today except maybe catch up on some recordings from my DVR. I was sore yesterday, as I've been doing a lot more in taking care of BFF. But the leg has been doing well, with no pain and a bit of numbness from the knee down occasionally.

@aliaschief and @DWAliaschief Happy Anniversary! Thanks for the photos of the progressive dinner.

@StLouisCruisers Thanks for checking in. I'm glad you and your fellow crafters found a better time to come together.

@RMLincoln I'm glad you're lining up fun things to do, and I know you'll manage the eye routine amongst your goings on. Sorry to hear your DGD had a kidney stone, but glad that she passed it. Those columbines are lovely.

@rafinmd Oh no! Are you ok?

@Haljo1935 Best of luck with your eye procedure today.

@ger_77 Be careful on the ladder.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Lovely photos from South Korea.

@marshhawk Thinking of you and DH.

@Cruzin Terri I hope you're feeling better today.

@kazu I hope here's less pain today and that you are getting some answers to your issue.

Prayers for the Care List and a Toast to those Celebrating.

Good morning all!

Three worthy days to celebrate today.  I'll pass on the red wine and the meal, but would like to try the drink.  Have not been to Seoul, thank you Lenda @Quartzsite Cruiser for the great photos.

Today is also our oldest grandson's 11th birthday.  Where has the time gone??

Our weather has turned cloudy, drippy and cooler, so no gardening today unless it improves this afternoon.  We do have to get groceries, but that's all on the agenda for now.

Happy 32nd anniversary Bruce and Sue @aliaschief!

Roy @rafinmd Yikes about the bleeding!  Did you take a fall or scrape your hand on something?  Take care.

Good morning, Dailyites.  Thanks for the Fleet Report and all the daily news. Happy anniversary to the Chief and Mrs. Chief !  Prayers will be said for those needing them.  My only news is that about half my scarlet runners have sprouted.  I gave the remainder of the bean seeds to DS, so if the rest don’t appear in the next couple of days, I’ll have to buy some more.  I used to grow a very pretty pink climbing bean that the hummingbirds loved, so I may look for those.

Good morning,

It's a grey day today and I have no plans for going anywhere so that's ok.

@aliaschief and @DWAliaschief Happy Anniversary! 32 years is quite the accomplishment.

Mostly routine things around here. I did the two water classes at the pool yesterday and then wandered the big box store for a bit getting in my steps. I did but a lovely bouquet of tulips and a few other things. I was getting the tulips into a vase and felt a sting on the underside of my wrist. Saw a small spot so something got me. All is well.

PT on Tuesday went well and I'm making progress on the stuck hip flexor muscle. Now if I could just get people to stop commenting on my gait and trying to offer advice. I'm not very confrontational at all and most people have no idea that my pain level has really decreased, that I am walking better and the leg feels better, etc. Oh well, I'll figure it out! Meanwhile 17 days until the Majestic Princess and a week away.

Today is getting housework done and working on grad cards. I send a card to all my former students I can track down that are graduating. I'm getting confirmations from friends, etc. about the status of many so getting the cards done and ready to go is on the top of the list. Grad is June 7th and I had 24 kids that year. My last class graduates next year.

Good morning everyone.  We were just in Sokcho, South Korea, but that's not close enough to Incheon to post photos.  We had a great day, though, and enjoyed our brief exposure to South Korea very much.

We had our pre-construction meeting with the project manager for our master bath remodel.  It went great, but DH suggested moving the existing large mirror into the garage to practice his golf swing.  Gonna need to put on my heaviest patience cloak!  lol

This morning, we put a hold on a world cruise segment for 2026 -- Singapore to Lisbon.  Just what we've been wanting -- to spend time in Singapore and rent a car in Lisbon.  I hope it goes!

@aliaschief, you are truly having an epic journey.  So happy that all this amazingness came your way!  Happy Anniversary!

Our Dailyites with troubles are in our prayers, as always.  I sure hope @kazugets that foot sorted out ASAP.  Most of the people here who love to travel are active people -- making it especially hard to be incapacitated.

Wishing everyone some goodness in this day.  Thank you, Daily Team!  ❤️
