Sofa Package

Hello again. I’ve been doing some research. Clearly celebrity has eliminated their sofa package. Does this mean we have to buy the non-alcoholic package in order to get sofas????

thanks in advance

My wife doesn’t drink alcohol. Is there a package, other than the non-alcoholic, for just sofas. Coke, Coke Zero and the like. $32.99 a day seems a little steep.

No soda only package.  You can carry on cans of soda on embarkation day.  They need to be in your carry on luggage, so maybe 2 - 3  6-packs.  That would reduce the number you would need to purchase.

There is a non-alcohol beverage package, that's it. Nothing for soda only.

I'm sorry, but there must be some auto-correction going on here because the OP has written sofa instead of soda 4 times now. 😂

I would certainly be interested to hear what Celebrity would have to offer for a sofa package.  Are we talking reclining, cupholders, powered?  I'm intrigued

Note that the non-alcohol package is rather comprehensive and soda is now included as part of that package versus being its own.  If the combined offerings in the package are not something you would take advantage of, or the price is prohibitive, you can just buy the sodas a la carte.  It would likely take a fair amount each day to break even to the old soda package prices as well as the non-alcohol package.

As to the sofa packages, I'm not too picky and as long as the price is right and there is one to sit on, I'm good!

I agree that, in order to make $33/day plus 20% to make financial sense, you've got to really like (and drink a lot of) specialty coffees, bottled water, fresh OJ, etc.  This is a HUGE money-maker for them (even more than the alcohol package).  Sodas cost maybe $0.02 per glass.  Ditto on coffees.

RCCL used to have (may still have) a soda package for around $9/day.  Not sure I ever "broke even" on that with $3.50/soda (at the time).  At $33/day, this would be crazy.  As someone who doesn't like coffee and is so/so on fresh-squeezed OJ, I would have to drink a LOT of soda each day.

They do - just not sure of the current pricing.

Similar to Celebrity, they also have the Refreshment Package, which is non-alcoholic and contains a number of beverages in addition to soda.

Where can one buy soft drinks for $0.02 per glass?  Celebrity doesn't use a "gun" for soft drinks, they use cans...

Fair enough.  I can buy a 12-pack of cans (on sale) for $4 retail.  That's $0.33 per can.  You figure that X, buying in HUGE bulk, is paying at most $2.  So, it's $0.16 per can.  That's approximately 205 cans of soda for $33.

I realize you get bottled water.  $3 for a 24-pack at retail so X is paying maybe $1.00; roughly $0.04 per bottle.  Coffee is mostly water.  OJ might be a bit more $$, but most people have one (small) glass per day.

I do realize that, at the price X charges per drink.  All I am saying is that you have to like stuff other than sodas to make it worth your while and that X is making out big time, even if you drink (non-alcohol) like mad.

Of course the non-alcohol packages are a huge profit center, otherwise why offer them? But on board you are a captive audience so whether it is by the glass or part of a package, you will pay the price.  Same profit centers as any alcohol package, photographs, spa services, casinos, etc. They wouldn't offer and promote them otherwise.  Far more money, and direct contributions to profit, is made by the cruise lines in these areas than by base cruise fares. That is why (and I know fares have increased following market demand) relatively speaking cruise fares are reasonable.

Purchase sodas and alcoholic drinks at any land based restaurant or entertainment venue and you will see the same.  Been to a professional baseball or football game recently - how about $12 beers?

I just went on the Summit to Alaska and bought a 12 pack of Diet Pepsi at the gas station for $12.  The $1/can was a fourth what Celebrity charged on board.  While I wouldn't pay that much for a 12 pack at home it was worth the money to have a couple daily and not have to pay over $100 on board to do it.

Agreed, I have never understood comparing the price of a 12 pack of anything on sale at your local grocer to buying drinks on a ship in the middle of the ocean. It makes zero sense to me.

Since Celebrity only sells soda in a can , it is useless to talk price per glass

No.  The Zero Proof package is for non-alcoholic beverages which includes soda's.

Note:  If you are going to get a package with alcohol, you will have to buy the same for your wife, unless you call Celebrity and work with them.  They will then require your wife to have the Zero Proof package and you the Basic/Premium package.

I wish I could do the $10/day soda package.   For some reason, I've done it so many times that I was ready to automatically sign up for the package and somehow, I was hit by the $30 A DAY price tag and decided there had to be a better way.

I'm going to try to buy the cases of bottled water (it's a bit cheaper than buying each one, one at a time and I do consume alot) and carry on the sodas.  If I run out, it's ok, buying maybe 10 sodas/water won't break the bank.   Plus, my cruise has lots of ports where I can drink on land and maybe sneak a soda or water on board.   I wish they'd simply price the drinks at a reasonable cost so that all of this "maneuvering" wasn't needed.

We've never had to "sneak" soda or water on board from a port visit.  We don't open though before we reboard.

It is no different than the markup on soda, beer, wine or spirits in a restaurant.  Yes some restaurants allow one to bring their own wine but then they charge a corkage fee of at least $25.

Which gas station?  We are going on the Summit and do not want to spend $32.99 plus tax/gratuities for a few sodas.
