Driving to FLL: Parking Ideas?

Recommended Posts

Hello All,

Veteran Cruiser here, but we’ve always flown into the departure port. Just works out for the family this time for us to drive to Ft. Lauderdale. Any suggestions for parking? I am thinking we could either park at the port or do Long-Term at the airport and Uber to the port. Trying to balance security and expense, but willing to sacrifice the latter for the former if needed. Anyone? Thanks!

Hello @PlowAV8Tor and welcome to Cruise Critic and the message boards!

Thank you for your new thread on the Ask s Cruise Question forum! However, it is the forum for general questions regarding cruising. Your inquiry was off topic there since it concerns a specific North American Homeport. Your thread has been moved to the Florida Departures forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed from there or live there frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You may find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list of the various forums. I suggest you put the page link in your browser's Favorites for quick & easy access in the future. Please read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following portion from the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will post replies to you.

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry message to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention the cruise line, ship, sail date or port in your inquiry message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members help you.

Be sure to check if there is an existing Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your specific cruise line, ship and sail date. If not, feel free to start one! And don't worry about any responsibilities in starting a Roll Call thread. Roll Calls belong to everyone; there is no designated leader or owner. It does not matter who started the thread.

The specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your line, ship and sail date is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together! Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that may have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, they may have already posted share requests that may interest you. Roll Calls are for Cruise Critic members on the same cruise. They get to know one another online before their cruise so there will be all kinds of discussion in the Roll Call thread for their cruise!

If you ever need technical help in regard to using the Cruise Critic message board software, go to the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum. You will see a large amount of "How to..." pinned threads toward the top of the forum's first page. Also, browse through the threads in the forum looking for threads of interest. As with other forums on our boards, you may find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this information will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are soooo glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

My apologies Kat— thought that’s precisely what I had done (post in Florida Departures). Don’t know what I did to mess that up but thanks for moving my post.

Cheers,

As locals we always park at the port.  It isn't the cheapest alternative but it is the most convenient and the two garages provide covered (I don't know when you're traveling but that is especially important in the summer) and elevated parking (that saves your car from flooding in the the case of an horrific rainstorm and flooding like in April 2023).

Check out the Port Everglades website (if you haven't already) for a terminal/parking lot/garage map and lots of other information:  www.porteverglades.net.

And welcome to Cruise Critic!

The long term parking lot was closed several years ago....I believe it is now being used as a parking lot for airport employees.  Anyway, it is closed, I drove past within the last year and there was no entrance for the public.

As for your request about parking, this post will likely have several replies suggesting Park n Go which you will have to Google.

It is a great place to park, They offer a free shuttle to your embarkation point at the ship you are sailing.  We always use it.

Park N Go flooded horribly in that April 2023 flood which, granted, was the worst in history.  Before then I would have assumed that during the dry season (December thru May) Park N Go would be safe but that flood happened in April so not even then.  I definitely wouldn't use it during the wet season (hurricane season June through November).  See this thread from April 2023:

There's another factor to consider.  How long is your drive to/from the port to home?

We've always parked as close to the terminal as possible avoiding shuttles from the port to parking. It may cost a few bucks more but it can save considerable time in getting on the road  on the way home.  Some shuttles will make multiple stops which only increases the time from port to car. Now, we usually have more than a 14 hour drive home so a quick departure is important.

The Dania Beach Casino on Dania Beach Blvd has a long term parking lot on their property. The facility is located just east of Federal Highway US 1.

I priced Park by the Ports, which is in the Dania Beach Casino Parking lot. It is advertised as $14.99/day, but taxes and fees for a 7-day park comes out to $19,52/day. I would rather pay $20/day and park directly at the port.

Hello all, recently booked Holland Eurodam from Nov 27 - Dec 18th. Considering driving down from the Northeast. I know there are many long term parking locations in Fort Lauderdale, but here's my question... any long term (3 weeks) INDOOR/COVERED parking? I am hoping for the extra security and protection from weather on a classic car. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by indoor, but there’s covered garage parking right at the port. Advice I got from earlier post was to Google the Port Everglades web site. It’s $20 per day, which isn’t cheap but everything’s relative, considering the downtown Chicago will cost you 70 bucks overnight. Besides, the garages are walking distance to the terminals. I’m probably going with that.

The one time we drove to FLL we parked at the port. Covered garage, and up high enough that there is little likelihood of water damage if there is a flood or hurricane.

On the port Everglades parking page, it doesn’t say anything about being able to reserve ahead of time. Does the parking fill up? Or can we count on getting a space as long as we arrive before noon?

There are no reservations.  Arriving passengers have disembarked by 9:30 or 10 am opening plenty of parking spots.  In all my years of reading this forum I’ve only heard of having finding available parking spaces difficult once.  IIRC that was the beginning of Thanksgiving week, one of the busiest cruise weeks of the year.

Thank you, this is helpful as that is the week we are cruising.

Port Everglades publishes alerts on their home page when anticipating problems of any kind.  You can check it a few days before your departure date.
